Hi,

I am mid-high PLO stakes cash game player. I am starting this thread to keep myself accountable for the goals I have for 2015, to help me by giving me an outlet to write out some thoughts and probably occasionally to vent!

Here is my 2014 graph

Obviously 2014 was a very tough year for me poker wise, and I found it very tough mentally at times. A number of real life issues made it even tougher. So yeah, first 6 months of 2014 were the hardest of my life so far. I got my **** together pretty well and took off about 2 months and grinded alot from July-December and it went pretty well.

Specific goals
• 500k hands at 2/4-5/10. I took January off, so its about 55k a month goal assuming I take another 6 weeks off. Currently at about 15k hands.
• Recruit 4-6 horses to coach/stake and have total revenues of 70-100k per horse for the first 12 months.
• Speak Portuguese to a pretty high level (currently at 0)
• Visit 8 new countries (Currently at 0) - Portugal, 2 in North Africa, 1 or 2 in Scandinavia, 1 or 2 in Eastern Europe, and see what else happens.

I Will not be posting results on a regular basis, and that's for a specific reason. I have done alot of work in the last while on reframing how I view poker, and thinking about it as a long term game where short term and even medium term results are irrelevant. In such a swingy, variance filled game as PLO, thats a very accurate representation, and also a very helpful one - to help deal with the swings. I have suffered alot with variance and being resistant to it during my poker career, especially PLO, but I am not doing that anymore. To that end, I am viewing poker as an investment fund, where my investment only matures at the end of the year ; all that matters in the interim is playing well, good mindset, and volume
So I am not posting (or looking at) results regularly at all. My plan is to look at results Quarterly - so April 1/July 1 and October 1. I will post graphs on those dates..might make an interesting build up

What I will use this thread for
• Posting volume and report on how I Feel I played / work done on my game, stuff like that on a weekly basis
• Some interesting hands with my thought process / some funny or crazy hands.
• Occasionally will post some strategy thoughts, if I am working on a particular part of my game or feel like sharing
• Maybe some mini trip reports on Vacations or interesting things that I do

If people want to ask me some questions about PLO, poker, post the occasional hand history etc I will be happy to respond

Thanks

subbed despite there only being 1 graph every 3 months which is v lame

many tables do you play at a time?
did you make sne last year?
why is your goal 500k hands up to 5/10 instead of including higher?
why portuguese as opposed to whatever else?

Yeah but it'll be suspenseful before I post the graphs!!

I play like 10-14, depending on the action and how many of those are zoom

Nah, I think I hit 300k..I only hit 350k hands for a bunch of reasons. Never made SNE, playing on multiple sites makes it ~impossible

That was a typo actually, I meant up to and including 10/20...25/50 will likely be such a small % of my volume that it will be negligible, unless some great games start running or I improve a ton and decide to move up permanently

Portuguese because I am going to spend some time In Lisbon and would like to speak it to make Brazil more accessible to me. I already speak very good Spanish, so Portuguese seems like a great next step. I'd actually prefer French/live in France, but because of their legislation/segregation its not really feasible for poker. Might spend some time in Montreal in future to learn French.

Cheers!

Big first full week back in terms of volume, close to my highest Volume ever.
Pretty happy with my mindset ; not looking at results has been pretty easy, relatively speaking. Hasnt been easy, but compared to how I used to be, or how I thought it would be.

Very solid ; at this stage I almost dont care how I've done this week, results wise. I know it doesnt matter and that long term, I am winning. I didnt lose or win anything this week, its just playing the game.

Got very angry last night when I Started a whatsapp conversation with a chick while I was grinding ; that was very unprofessional and stupid of me and it split my concentration obviously and then I made mistakes and got annoyed about it. Wont be doing that again.

Have my first horse recruited and signing a contract today, still searching for a few more. Looking forward to getting started on that.

If he takes people who win and want to win more and hes a decent coach this is very doable. at 100+ the rakeback alone will make 60% of that goal for a 15-20k hand per month player. Problem with most staking business is that they take way too many barely winning players and low stakes players. I know a few stakers that make so much that they can dump $ at 5/10 10/20 on a daily basis

I mostly play 100bb, sometimes 40bb at 25/50 or if the fish only has a SS and the regs have more. Depends, but majority of my play is full stack.

Rather not say SN

Right now I am in Argentina but I am planning on going to Lisbon soon (hence Portuguese) , and after that I am not sure.

Cheers

No, not a typo ; I am pretty confident in my abilities to turn hard working / dedicated people into 6 figures winners in mid stakes PLO games ; as the other poster stated, rakeback will make up a decent chunk of that if they put in alot of hands, (Although nowhere near 60% at 100PLO+)..
But once you get to say 2/4 3/6 and are playing 50k hands a month, you are making 40k (guesstimate, depends on sites and stuff.) a year in rakeback ..obviously you have to be a winning player and have the roll to play there..which is where I come in

Thanks

Hi there! As a new poker player (~1 year playing recreationally without really thinking about the game), you're really an inspiration. I messed around with lots of formats, but just recently realized I just love PLO, it's a different feeling when i'm playing it than other formats.

So if you had to give a couple good advices for a PLO newbie starting to learn the game, what would them be? Would be of great help to hear from a much more experienced player.

Thank you and good luck on your goals for the year

Sounds good - is that a bar or area in Lisbon?

Start off playing quite tight, but gradual loosen up as you gain experience pre and postflop
Play a ton of hands and work hard on your game
Mental game is extremely important, perhaps the main differentiator at higher levels
Just put a bunch of hours into it if you want to be good ; watch videos, post hands, respond to others hands, make friends, have discussion groups, get coaching, study your own hands, repeat..

Thanks

Will do. No travels as of yet this year. My plan for Portuguese is to do an intensive language school when I get to Lisbon ; with good Spanish I figure I get conversational very fast, 2-3 weeks. I learned Spanish mostly by osmosis, never had a very structured approach to it.
