2014 - My breakout year 2014 - My breakout year

Disclaimer: Not much of a breakout.

Alright so a little about myself first. 24 year old working engineer after graduating a commerce/engineering degree from the University of Sydney earlier last year.

Got interested in poker when a uni mate of mine, YoussefAhmed, was on the heater of his life in early 2011. Sounded nuts to me that a uni student could be earning 300k+ a year.

Anyway since then I've been learning the game a bit. Dabbled in NLHE at first but completely sucked. Was never a winning player at any stakes. Made the switch to PLO early last year while still a losing player and stayed a losing player for a while.

A bit over two weeks ago I really got focused on playing winning poker. Invested in an online course in early December, and combined with my previous experience, and the ability to quiz Youssef about what lines he would take and why for a lot of my hands I believe it is fair to say I have developed into a winning player.

My results since returning from a holiday in late December are below. Started at 25PLO, had a bit of a HU craving so moved up to 50PLO HU and had a heater of a start (the first big bump in the graph). Played incredibly loose and bluffy, really don't think I know what I was doing, but I wasn't losing. Eventually this went south and when I got back to breakeven in terms of the HU play, I jumped back into 25PLO 6max. Eventually I thought I'd give 50PLO a crack and it went pretty good, particularly as I started running heaps above EV.

Net winnings:

Big blinds:

I haven't paid much attention to bankroll management although I will now. Dabbled in games as high as 400PLO on a 2k bankroll. Graph has some pretty crazy moments like the $500 drop down and then immediately up. Won't be doing crazy things like that anymore.

So in summary, following a bankroll of $150 that I deposited a few weeks back I've now built it up to approximately $2.5k.

Purpose of this thread is to hopefully provide myself some accountability and to keep myself motivated to improve. While not a strong sample size I am confident that I am now a winning player, but I guess time will tell.

GOAL for 2014: Reach 30k in net profit. I figure if I've done 2.5k in a week and a half, I should be able to do 30k in 52 weeks.

Bankroll management rules: Always have at least 20buyins for any given stakes

And that'll do it for now.

I'll try keep this thread interesting for any who care enough about my progress.

Cheers, pij
