i wonder if UG was brought into existence because of cuse. looking through his posts it appears his life mission was to anti-rail OP which is infinitely more pathetic than playing 1/3 on a weekend.

Was sick with some kind of viral thing with a horrific sore throat last weekend. Only good thing about it was it gave me an excuse to drink milkshakes.

Confirmed not busto! I did have a downswing for a couple months, but I'm pretty close to my peak bankroll and I'd say I'm at my career peak overall.

I played some 1/3 while waiting for a bigger game to start. It never ran, but some guy in the 1/3 seemed really intent on giving away about a thousand, so I figured I'd try to return that punt. I have no problem playing in a 1/3 if it's good and deep. Also need to play a bit at the Horseshoe to keep my Diamond card, so that may mean a few 1/3 sessions.

Thanks, but no need... I know that there are a few people who would greatly enjoy my demise, but they're not going to get to see that happen. That's all the punishment they need as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes the trolling just highlights the absurdity of it all.

The irony is that I don't think I've had a milkshake since like July. The trolling to consumption ratio on milkshakes this year is a lot to two. But, I do highly recommend the ones at Black Tap Burger at Venetian (and I'm told they have an NYC location?). Do not get a burger, just go straight to the milkshake, you won't be able to consume both in one sitting.

PGC's definitely used to be way better. I got to know a few cool people who are very good at poker in real life, and they've almost all gravitated away from 2p2.

I think there's a lot of groupthink on 2p2 and certain posters attack people who don't conform to the groupthink views on how poker should be played or on how much success can be had at different levels. That's my .02, anyway.

There's nothing at all pathetic about playing 1/3 at any time. I'm sure there are people who make a decent living solely grinding 1/3 - I know some of them actually. Plenty of people have a lot of fun playing in the smaller games. And a consummate pro will use his/her time wisely while waiting for a bigger game or when there is a reason to be in that game. Sometimes you can make more at 1/3 than 2/5 or at 2/5 than 5/T, and so on.

I've played about 12 hours of 1/3 this year and made about $700. Yeah, sample size doesn't matter at all, throw out the hourly, etc, etc, but by sitting in a game where I could make positive income rather than sitting on my ass doing nothing, I am $700 richer, including $400 and change the other day because I stayed in a game that was really good for a couple hours instead of just going home when the bigger game didn't run.

And if a few people in the poker room think I'm busto, that's fine for me too, it might get me more action. So I'm cool with that rumor spreading.

There's definitely some groupthink as I think there is in a lot of areas of life, but I don't think that's why they post the way they do. Benabadbeat gets hate from some of them as well and he seems to be a very nice guy as well as a 500zoom reg whose study/play would fall in line with what the avg 2p2 person thinks is optimal in 2018. It just comes down to immaturity as well as bitterness about their own lack of success imo. Obv people like them tend to feel more comfortable acting like a fool when they feel they are anonymous on the internet as well but that's nothing new.

Happy New Year everybody!

Seemed like a good time for a quick end of the year update. I'd say this was my best year yet in poker, although I missed my yearly goal by about 5%. Still a great year, and I took down my first live tourney which was a lot of fun.

I had some great experiences in 2018 too... seeing the Eagles win the Super Bowl with my family and going to the parade with my Dad, I made some new friends in the poker world, had a great WSOP, I had another fun cross-country road trip, I made some new friends outside the poker world, I dated a few cool people and learned some things in the process, I thought for a minute I might have met the right girl finally, and I figured out a lot about myself in general...

I'm really happy about some strides I've made outside of poker lately, and I think they'll carry over into my career and help in that regard too... in fact I think those realizations I've made and the work I've started could be the best thing that happened to me in 2018.

I think the first five months of 2019 will be a season of change for me, and I'm really looking forward to it. The first change will be a very big one, and it's going to take place in a month. Well, it's the first change I know 100% will take place within the next month - I'll be working on some others that relate to what I would consider internal game (in life, in dating, in socializing, in business, in poker, in health, in everything). I don't know (or care really) whether they take two weeks or six months, I'll just keep working at them and enjoying the process.

I'm still working on my short/mid-term goals for poker... Maybe I'll post some of them or my 2019 goals overall, which I'll be thinking about a bit tonight. It's going to be a low key NYE since I'm not feeling 100% the last couple days and a couple of my friends are out of town. But I've been more happy/content the last couple weeks than usual, and I'm just perfectly satisfied to chill at home, maybe have a glass of champagne at midnight, but mostly just think about the year ahead and what it holds in store. I think it's going to end up looking like a breakout/breakthrough year to people who don't know me, but really it will be the product of putting years of thought and work in.

Hope you all have a great New Year's Eve, and a healthy, prosperous and fun 2019!

Oh yeah, and the first big change is...

Spoiler:
I'm moving!

Thanks, Happy New Year! Rolling up a stake and going to...

It's about that time... I'll try to write up a couple paragraphs about 2019 in the next few days after my last session of the year today.

Well for 2019, I made it less than halfway to my earnings goal... The WSOP derailed me on that one. I set an aggressive goal that was going to require at least one decent sized score, and instead I had a pretty bad losing series. All that said, I still made more this year than last year. So I can't complain too much.

The cross country trip was a lot of fun - this year's version included an extended stay in California, with a day in San Diego and a short adventure in Tijuana. I loooove Southern California, and man is Torrey Pines a gorgeous area (I hiked there). I got to catch up with my friend out there more than in years past, which was great. I hit up a jazz bar on Frenchman Street in New Orleans, and it was a great experience with awesome live music.

I moved into a new place that I'm loving - everything is brand new and high end, and I bought a robotic vacuum/mop, which feels pretty baller even if the prices have come way down.

I'm still more of a quality over quantity player... I'm still making a high bb/hr and playing a relatively low number of hours, I'm sure some would say not enough. I'm probably studying more/better than the average pro, but I would say not nearly enough.

We'll see how that all shakes out in 2020, as I'm embarking on a new adventure: starting a business. I'm doing it in a unique and interesting (imo) way, and I'll be vlogging the entire process. I'm extremely fired up about it! The goal is to limit it to 20-25 hours a week, play a minimum of 25 hours of poker a week (hopefully more), study at least 3 hours a week, and still have time to learn new games.

One challenge is that I have too many different ambitions. I want to start a business, I want to learn more about investing and analyzing stocks, I want to play online tournaments 10+ hours a week, I want to learn stud and PLO, I want to play 35+ hours of live NLHE a week, and I want to study NLHE each week... All while saving a little time for diet and exercise, family, and fun.

Even though I enjoy it all, which means that even though it's "work" I can still do a lot of it, it's also mentally taxing. Every day for a couple weeks I've wanted to read my investing book at night before bed and been too tired to focus enough to really learn what I'm reading and process it.

Never the less, I think if I put PLO, Stud and Online MTTs off until mid February, I can get the ball rolling enough on some of the other stuff to then make some more time for those things and try to balance it and keep all the different things at least moving forward. If I only get ~25 hours of live NLHE in a week, that's still ok and I can still make a good living.

I also should be doing some shot taking at T/25 at some point this year. I'm rolled to do it now, but I think it's a better move to invest that money in my retirement account, pay my 2019 taxes, and then go for it. I'm also pretty limited on when and where I can play games that big. I play in a deep 5/T often enough, and in some ways that's almost like the same stakes but more complex/fun.

As far as family and friends go, life is good. I eliminated a toxic person from my life this year, and got closer with some great people who have a positive impact. Hopefully I do the same for them... I try my best.

Dating wise, it was an up and down year, but mostly down unfortunately. Given my living situation in the first half of the year, I didn't see much point in it - I was moving out of Baltimore after a month, then in a new place for four months to try out the area, then going to Vegas for a couple months, then returning... So I went seven months without really trying, which was fine I guess. I went out with four women from Aug-Nov with none getting serious. One made it to a 5th date then fizzled. I have gone out with someone new a couple times now, so we'll see. I should make more of a consistent effort in this area in 2020 and try to make it more of a priority. Like anything else, when I put in the work I'm able to get dates and meet people and try to find someone special. Otherwise, it's not going to fall in my lap.

Speaking of things I need to do more consistently in 2020: travel. I need to see more of the world. I actually have two women I dated who now live in foreign countries who have either told me they'd meet up and play tour guide/translator if I visited their area or a country nearby... I should take them up on that, or I'll probably regret it! Even just from a travel/experience perspective, the benefits of knowing someone who truly gets the culture and language and is willing to share it would be amazing.

So that's pretty much 2019 and a look ahead in all areas: poker, business, family, friends, travel, dating... Hope you all had a great 2019... Have a happy and healthy 2020!

And as for the charity part I'll post more details later, I'll need to find the correct link in case anyone else wants to donate... I'm glad you mentioned it here, I hadn't thought to post the link here since I'm rarely on 2p2 lately...

But an old friend from Maryland who was a dealer who I keep in touch with from time to time on FB/IG asked me to donate per winning session to a drive for Make a Wish and promote it on my IG. I think I had 18 winning sessions (it was either for the rest of the year from the pledge or for all of Nov/Dec, I need to check). So I'll probably just round up to $25 and give that.

I'll take care of that sometime later in the week and try to remember to post the link here. Hopefully tomorrow if I have time, but I have a million errands to run before NYE.
