Nice goalpost shift though.

What exactly do you believe that me or anyone else who started a PG&C owe you?

Of course. But wouldnt you agree that 95%+ of all pgs stopped posting because they quit poker/ stopped playing "professionally" and or took step 6? I mean the guys who "made it" and stopped posting altogether while managing to skip step 6 is really, really small.

I think it’s possible to be a successful full time poker player while also dipping into the things you listed in step 6. They can obviously be cancerous but I know a handful who juggle it all successfully and make money from some of them.

There’s a fine line however between doing them profitably and degening. And I have flirted with that line myself. Still pit free but getting drunk and having a sports betting account can be a dangerous combo. Luckily I haven’t ruined myself yet =]

Ever since they stopped letting you use the old school iPhone 2p2 app I don’t really come on here much.

Anyway I’m done clogging up another persons thread with this stuff. Glad to continue the convo in my thread.

Yeah, I've been keeping most of my public content to IG... Next time you see me feel free to come say hi! Tourneys haven't been going so well for me either, but that's MTT poker.

Neither felted me cause I had already chipped up, but it put me in SST mode and I couldn't get to the bag. There was some other stuff, but that basically sums it up.

Ran good/played well at cash in live, lost it back online.

I feel really good about my MTT game, though, and I've been working on some stuff that will apply when I get a deep run.

One of the biggest cons in gambling has to be the "you can be a professional poker player and wins millions" schtick.
I don't know that most of us bought in on "you can make millions." I mean, yeah, you can... It's super unlikely and mostly relies on a tournament bink. Although, if you're talking lifetime, I'll probably end up making seven figures off poker unless I quit or the games go to total ****.

6. desperation sets in and they punt on live mtts, sports, highstakes, plo, dfs, etc etc

i think the guys stuck on step 5 stop posting too when they realize there's nothing to really brag about.
That's one way to look at it. Another is that you can be making a pretty nice living grinding 2/5 and/or 5/T, but realize that now that you're mostly in the same player pool, you don't really want to post many hand histories... Because let's be honest, most of the interesting hand histories are the ones where you got way out of line and did something exploitative. But once you're playing regularly with a handful of other very good players, you don't really want to give them extra info on your ranges and/or when you divert from them.

So you stop posting as much, because the rest of what you would put in here is boring in and of itself... and eventually as the experience builds, you don't really care so much about the vindication of others telling you how good your hero calls or bluffs are. You stop showing bluffs unless it's strategic; you stop tabling hero calls when your opponents muck unless you have to.

I'm actually chasing some pretty exciting things toward the end of 2017, but I am keeping that almost entirely between me, my friends and my family. If I posted about it in here, I'd get the usual: a few supporters, a few haters, a few calling me a liar. If I hit the goal, maybe I'll allude to it in here in broad terms.

I'm also working very hard on some elements of my game, but I also don't want to share that in here... Why tip off my opponents to the exact areas I think are/were my weaknesses that I've now improved?

I've also been branching out into other realms as more significant uses of my time and as a bigger chunk of my earning, like online poker and PLO.

Anyway, getting back to the list, I've certainly gone through 1-4, but I'd say the rest has not applied to me. I did make my first sports bet in 10 years recently, and it was a big one, but it was a calculated professional investment, not degenning.

I've certainly had my volume issues, but I'm on pace for 1,400-1,500 hours this year (not sure of my exact number), with more study time than I've ever put in. I'm taking more calculated risks than before, but nothing crazy... and I haven't been updating, but that has nothing to do with your #7. I'm still a full-time pro.

Agreed.

Same here... I've mostly used IG, but mainly because my Twitter account goes back to my sports broadcasting days and so I'm not really dialed into the poker community on Twitter. My IG has been poker content most of the way. I also field DMs on various social media with questions and such, as well as on here and respond to that kind of stuff. I just don't really see the point in monthly/routine updates in this thread.

Pretty much everyone I know well in poker who I met through 2p2 that's playing for a living does the same, and their views on the value 2p2 community are pretty interesting (spoiler: we all think it's gone way downhill over time).

I know a few people who didn't follow those seven steps, and I'm not sure I know anyone who did. I know people who didn't make it to the point of going full-time for a variety of reasons, but most people I know who play(ed) for a living continue to do so, or could if they wanted to.

Sure but that's a silly statement. Probably 90% of PG&Cs never get very far, period. There are plenty who "made it" and stopped posting much at all, but still communicate somewhat regularly with some of their 2p2 friends.

Great! I’m working hard on my tournament play also. If you ever want to bounce hands/play/etc off someone face to face, let me know. I’m in Maryland, usually play at Md Live, but head out west for the summer and target some WSOP events.

I have played online some in NJ, yeah. I'm keeping all of my screen names under wraps, though. I have a player here in Maryland driving himself crazy trying to guess it. So far, in his first ~10 guesses (like four of which he's been "positive" of), he didn't name it. Just watching him go nuts is worth the entertainment, but I'm keeping them private for strategic reasons.

Thanks! I've slowed down on IG as well, mainly because the focus on the rear camera of my smart phone isn't working. Gotta get that fixed...

Somewhat curious if we tangled at all (SN is same as 2+2 name).

Also curious on how you feel the differences between live and online, and if your particular skillset suits one avenue more than the other

I don't think we did...

I think my skillset is probably a little better suited toward live. I think my strengths include fostering a good game through conversation/friendliness, and live reads when I'm focused and trying. Those obviously go out the window online.

There's also a certain psychological aspect live that isn't there online. IN live poker people are more likely to break from their style due to boredom, tilt, ego, etc.. or pros are more likely to get outside of their ranges for a litany of reasons, some good, some bad... Being able to sense this/predict it is really a valuable skill. Online, multi-tabling, that's not so much a thing because outside of someone losing a huge pot, there's no way to predict it coming. Although, I think tilt can be worse online for a lot of players.

I don't think that the absence of those applications of my skillset means I'm bad at online, per se, although I do have to tweak my style a little bit. As a kid I was a stat geek as a sports fan, so the statistical aspect of online and having all of the data is really cool to me. Like, being able to see my results by position, by hand, by action, etc, is fun.

Ultimately, being the bankroll nit that I am, I can probably make more online with where my roll is right now by multi-tabling. I'm way over rolled to play stakes online where I can make a 5/T hourly thanks to multi-tabling, and while I'm rolled for 5/T by most people's standards, I'm only in shot-taking territory for it now by my rules, and it's an hour drive away...

Also, there are things I've learned from playing online that I can apply back to live poker, which has been really cool. I also get to put in so many more hands 4-handed or shorter, or even heads up to start a table, so that's fun and a learning experience. Like, live I may get to play ~100 heads up hands a year and usually only in 15-minute chunks, usually requiring some hustle ("Let's just finish out this dealer," is a favorite). Online I can get 100 hands of heads up every day, just off tables opening/breaking.

Most importantly, I think online is conducive to a healthier lifestyle. I know that may seem contradictory to some, but it's definitely true for me.

If I were one of those, one of them clearly stands out to me... But, I'm not saying I am, and I also am not saying I've played on Borgata's site any time in the last five months... Are the games any good?

OP confirmed still alive, still not busto, still playing for a living.

I played ~1100 hours live last year and I don't know how many online off the top of my head, but between 200 and 300... Add in some study time (I did a horrible job of tracking this so I don't know how much) and it wasn't a bad effort for 2017.

Today is the second-worst day of the poker year, behind only the day that you bust out of (or fail to get into) the Main Event.

Tax Day.

It never feels good to ship all that money to the IRS. It's like stacking off to a nit for hundreds of big blinds that are just never coming back.
