One of the biggest cons in gambling has to be the "you can be a professional poker player and wins millions" schtick.
I don't know that most of us bought in on "you can make millions." I mean, yeah, you can... It's super unlikely and mostly relies on a tournament bink. Although, if you're talking lifetime, I'll probably end up making seven figures off poker unless I quit or the games go to total ****.

i think the guys stuck on step 5 stop posting too when they realize there's nothing to really brag about.
That's one way to look at it. Another is that you can be making a pretty nice living grinding 2/5 and/or 5/T, but realize that now that you're mostly in the same player pool, you don't really want to post many hand histories... Because let's be honest, most of the interesting hand histories are the ones where you got way out of line and did something exploitative. But once you're playing regularly with a handful of other very good players, you don't really want to give them extra info on your ranges and/or when you divert from them.
So you stop posting as much, because the rest of what you would put in here is boring in and of itself... and eventually as the experience builds, you don't really care so much about the vindication of others telling you how good your hero calls or bluffs are. You stop showing bluffs unless it's strategic; you stop tabling hero calls when your opponents muck unless you have to.
I'm actually chasing some pretty exciting things toward the end of 2017, but I am keeping that almost entirely between me, my friends and my family. If I posted about it in here, I'd get the usual: a few supporters, a few haters, a few calling me a liar. If I hit the goal, maybe I'll allude to it in here in broad terms.
I'm also working very hard on some elements of my game, but I also don't want to share that in here... Why tip off my opponents to the exact areas I think are/were my weaknesses that I've now improved?
I've also been branching out into other realms as more significant uses of my time and as a bigger chunk of my earning, like online poker and PLO.
Anyway, getting back to the list, I've certainly gone through 1-4, but I'd say the rest has not applied to me. I did make my first sports bet in 10 years recently, and it was a big one, but it was a calculated professional investment, not degenning.
I've certainly had my volume issues, but I'm on pace for 1,400-1,500 hours this year (not sure of my exact number), with more study time than I've ever put in. I'm taking more calculated risks than before, but nothing crazy... and I haven't been updating, but that has nothing to do with your #7. I'm still a full-time pro.

Agreed.

Just because someone isn't updating their PG&C doesn't mean they're broke or not playing poker or whatever, sometimes these threads just run their course. How many pics of casino chips until people get bored?
Same here... I've mostly used IG, but mainly because my Twitter account goes back to my sports broadcasting days and so I'm not really dialed into the poker community on Twitter. My IG has been poker content most of the way. I also field DMs on various social media with questions and such, as well as on here and respond to that kind of stuff. I just don't really see the point in monthly/routine updates in this thread.
Pretty much everyone I know well in poker who I met through 2p2 that's playing for a living does the same, and their views on the value 2p2 community are pretty interesting (spoiler: we all think it's gone way downhill over time).
I know a few people who didn't follow those seven steps, and I'm not sure I know anyone who did. I know people who didn't make it to the point of going full-time for a variety of reasons, but most people I know who play(ed) for a living continue to do so, or could if they wanted to.

Sure but that's a silly statement. Probably 90% of PG&Cs never get very far, period. There are plenty who "made it" and stopped posting much at all, but still communicate somewhat regularly with some of their 2p2 friends.
