2 Steps Back 1 Step Forward... 2 Steps Back 1 Step Forward...

Hello !

Firstly, thank you for taking your time and clicking onto my thread. I will be keeping this as short as possible and straight to the point. I know taking 2 steps back and 1 step forward means I'm heading in the wrong direction, but I want to remind myself that sometimes it is necessary to take a step back in order to see the bigger picture.

Brief description about myself :
I am live cash & mtt grinder who also plays online (increased volume during this pandemic). I would describe myself as someone who has previously struggled keep his cool and would tilt easily before. However after working on my mental game (I can't stress how important this is), I have managed to maintain my A game for a longer duration.

The reason for this thread,
I would like to take this opportunity to keep a daily log of my poker results as I've just had a terrible week of playing online cash, and would like to document things day by day.
a) I think a bit of routine will help.
b) Hopefully when i post some hh, i could get some advice on what i could have done better.

My goal is to reach consistency with my game, bink a tournament :P over 5 figures, and play higher stakes.

Thank you for reading this thread, and I hope everyone is staying safe during these tough times.

GL

Ended up playing a couple of MTT's last night, deep run in a daily $33, unfortunately lost 2 flips, ended up finishing 13th for roughly $190, $5.xk for first, pretty gutted. Losing AK v QQ and then a few hands later 3b jamming Tens into chip leaders AQ :'(. But hey ho, that's MTT's for us.
What's most important, is I am happy with how I played throughout the tournament & variance is always going be a b**** from time to time.

So before I start today's session, I want to maintain a positive mindset. The way I do this is by following a checklist, curtsey of James Whittet who provided this during his webinar.

Today’s message to myself is that today is a new day, therefore new opportunities to play my best poker.

One thing I can get excited about today is my dinner, cause i am starving! (who said it has to be all poker related )

The Main Feeling I want to generate today is positivity

What are 3 things I’m grateful for today and why?

1. I am grateful for the talented poker friends i have around me, who have been generous enough to give me some of their time & to listen to my concerns as well as providing some advice. When going through a rough patch poker can be a lonely place, you might think everything is going against you. Why can't I hit my draws or sets, A high flop when you have kings. Having friends who can talk to you through these times, does make the journey a lot smoother.
2. I am grateful for having my family around me, something we take for granted, but during this pandemic we must take a moment and reflect how delicate life is.
3. I am grateful for having this opportunity to play a game I love and make money from it, speaking from someone who has worked a 9-5, I know how daunting it is watching the clock waiting to go home to play a session.

Who needs me on my A-Game today and Why?
I need me on my A-Game because, I must get used to playing on my A game and understanding how good this feels so I don't fall into playing anything other than my A game.

If I was my own Coach or Mentor, looking at my life, I would remind myself that...
Poker is long term, if you have a bad session don't let it get to you as it's not going to be the last session you ever play, just a small bump on your path. Learn from your mistakes and keep going forward.

Today would feel like a Success if at the end of the day I had done or felt what?
I would like to accomplish playing to my best ability and not to make a stupid station (slightly vague, but what i mean is to think about my decision carefully as it can easily be prevented if I took some time over it).
I would like to feel pleased with my session and motivated for my next session.

A bit long but I do find this helpful, if anyone who reads this has experienced problems with their mental game please give this a try as it might help you.

OR

If you have faced problems with your mental game, please share how you overcame this/ what do you do in order to prepare yourself before a session.

Please feel free to share
