Summary:

I started this challenge roughly around Christmas (2017), and will look to complete this journey by reaching $5000USD before Christmas 2018. I hope to finish this goal in 6 months, but have set the timer to a year just to be safe (assuming I do get there of course).

My Background:

I'm a profitable poker player who has a very solid A game, but in more recent times (previous to this challenge), I have been playing more recreationally, enjoying the poker game without all the pressure. This has had mixed results incurring much more variance and finding myself losing a bit of the poker knowledge I honed previously. In this challenge I plan to change that by being focused week in week out on completing my goal of $5K.

Structure:

There is no specific structure to this challenge. This means I can play Tourneys, Cash Games, Satellites, whatever I feel (excluding live games), but of course sticking to a feasible BRM vs. the levels I'm playing. You'll see me take some shots here or there; I maybe even play 2NL/5NL with a very aggressive bankroll, however I feel this will be paramount on kick-starting our BR and reaching our goal.

I have divided this challenge into 10 Sub-goals which I have labelled as "Levels." They go as followed:

LEVEL 1: Reach $20
LEVEL 2: Reach $50
LEVEL 3: Reach $100
LEVEL 4: Reach $250
LEVEL 5:Reach $500
LEVEL 6: Reach $1000
LEVEL 7: Reach $1750
LEVEL 8: Reach $2500
LEVEL 9: Reach $3500
LEVEL 10: Reach $5000

Thus Far:

2 Weeks deep, the BR has seen a peak of close to $25.00 and a low of $0.68 (before binking a $0.10 360 Man for $6.80). There has been a ton of variance in these 4Max Hyper sats to bigger tourneys. They may be very profitable, but you definitely need a large roll and a bit of lady luck to get going in those. 2NL has been a bit of a cash cow for us, where we have been reaping most of our rewards. Currently the BR sits at $18.87.

I've also been documenting my journey on Twitch where I stream somewhat daily. You can find me there at:

Anyone is welcome to leave feedback, comments, and whatever opinions they may have (as well as any motivation of course )

Stay tuned for more updates!

7 Hour session starting with tourneys and quickly turning into a 2NL heater, i managed to peak at $31 before plateauing back down to where we stand now at $25.47.

Overall I'm happy with my play, maximizing my focus with 1/2 tables at a time. However I see that I go in and out of my A game. When I'm not on the A ball, it seems as if I play a C game, barely breaking even or a slight loss. Seems to be momentum driven. However if the general trend is up, I believe I will continue to go on these long stretch marathons, maybe eventually throwing in 3 or 4 tables, in 1 hour intervals. Anyway, I'm off to bed.

Hey, I'm posting because no one else has to let you know I'm following and I'll watch when I can. GL, hope you run good and play well.

My only comment is that, while I think you can make this goal once you have some traction (and I reckon you already do), it's ultimately results oriented. You're not in control of how you run, only how much volume and study you put in and how aware you are of when you're not playing your A game and don't play when you're not playing a winning game.

Thanks for the kind words nomad.

Looking into it, I realize this may be true. My approach to this challenge is just to play. If the goal gets hit, great - if not, no problem. It is more of an objective to strive for than a goal that must be accomplished. That being said, I absolutely want to reach that goal. To be more specific, I feel that in me creating a challenge that seems outlandish, it forces me to play with intention and focus on many variables that I have recently neglected (as I've been playing more so for fun in recent times); such as good BRM, studying the game, reviewing spots/sessions, getting in volume, etc. I feel in my current situation setting this goal erects more pros vs. cons.

Regardless, I appreciate your opinion and I feel it may be true in most cases. However, I personally don't feel the pressure to have a winning session everyday (in order to reach my goal) and I understand the variance and volume implied in this challenge. The real test will be if we have one more month or so to make $1000, if I will be putting in massive amounts of volume or not, and if I will stay true with the good habits I set out in the creation of this challenge. I reckon I will.

Thanks again!

UPDATE:

Played some 2NL, probably broke even since last update, however I put in 2 bullets into a $0.33 Sunday Storm Sat, and cashed for the ticket, booking us $11 and taking the BR to $34.51.

Long session yesterday with many peaks. However towards the end I went on a massive downswing, too many tough spots at once and I seemed to have capitulated them all. Unfortunate result for a promising day.

3 Positives from Yesterday:

1. Proved to be dominant in the 2NL stakes
2. Got a good amount of volume in
3. Stopped at the right time

3 Negatives from Yesterday:

1. Let results get to me
2. Probably slipped from my A game to B game towards the middle to late stages of my session
3. Just broke even at the end of my session

Yesterday I decided to play Regular tables instead of Zoom, with mixed results. I decided 8 tabling and on my small monitor is was a bit tedious at times when forced on multiple decisions, would get folded pre some of the time. As for the session itself, it was up and down. It was steady up for the first half, playing a solid A game. Then my B/C game rolled in and I swung down. After that, I kicked it down to 2 tables and withstood lots of swings as I had 2 fishy players in the one. Ended up taking most of their stacks and booked a decent profit to close out the session. BR @ $26.23 + 321 Starscoin

Either way here is the graph:

How are you going to spend your starcoins? I recommend just exchanging them for $10 every time you get 1000 of them.

Great question! I intend on playing the deal every 12 hours once it is $100K+, as well as play smaller starscoin sats to $0.55 tourneys or $1.10. Micro tourneys for sure now, because these tourneys are generally very soft, so +EV, I expect to get $0.014+ : 1 StarsCoin in these tourneys. Playing larger sats wouldn't be optimal as it would be too much variance to play.

Persistence, Persistence, Persistence!

Started off terribly in this session. It was a typical 8 table 2NL 6max Regular Tables, however I was playing much of a B/C game and finding myself just over betting without reason etc. I was paying off 2 streets to my opponents TPGK/TPTK a lot with hands that didn't hold very much equity especially versus their perceived range. However I managed to reignite my solid style and from there is was smooth sailing. I introduced 2 shots of 5NL tables, which went very well. This takes the roll to $79.78 + 486 StarsCoin!

Another Crushing session!

For some reason it always takes me many hands before I can hit my A game. But once I'm there, I'm crushing. In the future I must force myself to be a nit when entering tables before opening up my game. In the higher stakes this could prove costly.

Oh well, anyways huge boost to the Bankroll, we now sit @ $143.01 + 932 StarsCoin

Thanks a lot my friend - appreciated!

UPDATE:

Have taken a substantial amount of time off in terms of poker. So what's new? Well I only had two sessions since the last post, one coming off just 15 minutes ago, and the other was almost a week ago. The first session I had, I was taking shots of 10NL and it didn't go too well. I ended up being decently profitable in the 5NL, but the 10NL was a different story. But all losses were recovered via a few small cashes in some tourneys, but mostly thanks to the session I just completed.

With that, we are now sitting at $150.62 + 1212 Starscoin. Not too shabby.
