Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the link turn, will definitely check it out.

As for pictures, rarely take any to be honest. Setup right now is probably the nut-worst since im still in the hotel. Either laptop on a table thats way too high, forcing me to sit on pillows and look down all day, or its my bed with a small desk i put the laptop on. Will get a better situation when i find an apartment.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

Not sure if this will work for everyone but one way that I free up time for the gym is by prepping meals in bulk. So prepare 2-3 days of meals in advance if possible. Obviously you're in a hotel right now so that may be difficult for you - could be one for the future though.

Also, download an app like my fitness pal to track your calories and exercise. Again this may be tough as all the food is thai and you may be eating out in restaurants a lot.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

I like the idea of that, but really I eat out everyday. When I don't I order in food or get 7/11 meals, so don't really need to save time on that. Might use it sometime when I get myself a kitchen.

So before I go into poker I feel like going on a rant about technology, since it's really been pissing me off these last couple of days, and what better place to do it then here.

So first of all my hotel internet hasn't been working for the last couple of days, tried asking the staff but they barely speak English. In the end a woman came up with me, literally looked at my screen and said 'It no work'. After giving me that insightful information she left and ever since I've been depending on my mobile network. Disconnected a couple of times during my session, and there's just nothing more painful to a poker player than watching your timebank count down when you have aces in a hyper turbo.

So besides my internet already being a pain in the ass, none of my webbrowsers seem to work. Chrome and Mozilla don't load any page whatsoever for no apparent reason at all (can't even open the 'extensions' tab f.e.), so I'm having to deal with internet explorer.

Last on the list, some people asked for pictures. Walking through touristy spots in Bangkok it made me wonder: what's up with everyone always taking pictures of everything when they go places?
So often I see people go places, they come, grab their camera, take a bunch of pictures and leave. Each to his own, but personally I'd much rather just enjoy the place when I'm there, instead of remembering how great it was afterwards, which it probably even wasn't since all you were doing is taking pictures.
Will however follow up and try to take some pictures for the thread sometime.

Anyway, despite just having written an essay full of complaining, had a great weekend and I'm really starting to fall in love with Thai people / culture. Have nothing but good things to say about the locals, not a single negative experience with anyone, despite the many stories / warnings people always give when you talk about Bangkok.

As for poker, got up at 3am to grind today, ended up starting at 3:45. It seemed to be a big losing session but in the end I managed to get a 5th place in a $13.50 TKO for 500$. Lost a lot for the list I sold % from, but thanks to the TKO my bankroll is up over 200$ today.

Man I really love TKO's btw

Day 14 (01/02)
Total winnings: +$20
Personal winnings: +$227

New roll: $5327
Total winnings 2016: $3194

Here's a session of today's grinding setup by the way

Third world country internet, it does sucks. At least you are up for the day which is still nice with all those life badbeat.

I completely agree with you regarding tourist taking picture, don't feel like you have to take picture like a tourist we already seen it all anyways :P Was more interested with ''lifestyle'' picture. This setup look so comfy and painful at the same time. I'd be affraid to fall asleep grinding...

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

I think the internet would be fine, had I not been depending on the hotel-connection. Mobile internet is really unstable here however.
And yeaa I get ya, might drop some pics if anything interesting happens, find a new place etc. It's not painful honestly, quite relaxing but I try to avoid it when I just woke up / I'm tired because it makes me nearly fall asleep sometimes :P

Booked another winning day today.
Had quite a couple of cashes that bricked before the money got significant, including the h44, h22, 55bb. Also ft'd a 8.80$ fo early on, came in 8th for ~100$.
Later in the session I turned my rungood on again and went on a heater in a 27$ 6m psko, ended up coming in 4th for ~700 incl bounties after being the shortstack all the way from 10 players left, so was pretty happy about that. The game was on the %-list however so my personal winnings are a bit lower today.

Day 14 (01/02)
Total winnings: +$434
Personal winnings: +$177

New roll: $5504
Total winnings 2016: $3628

Buy-in's for tomorrow will be slightly higher. Took some 27's off the %-list which I'll be playing for myself, and sold action to some additional 55's & a 82 PSKO.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

Had a bunch of deep runs again today, but none of them turned into a significant cash. Best finishes were 7th in the B25 on fr for 135$ & 13th in a 27psko.
Hopefully I can finally close in on a 2k+ score sometime soon, to actually give my bankroll a decent boost, since it's been hovering between 5-5.5k for a while now.

Feeling really confident of my game however. I've dropped the <11$ turbo's with the exception of the hot's, since they yield very little EV and I feel like I'm better off playing 6-10 tables of higher stakes games, then to play 12 tables where I have some games that yield a 1-3$ev taking away some attention from the higher stakes.

Day 16 (03/02)
Total winnings: - $263
Personal winnings: -$161

New roll: $5343
Total winnings 2016: $3365

Bankroll is slightly under 5.4k, but I'll roughly stick to the same schedule for the next grind. Will however get rid of the 82$ for now & dump the 55fo that starts at 5:10am, since it seems to be ~100 regs in a 110 player field.

Taking tomorrow off since I'm meeting up with a 2+2'er tonight, so next grind will be on Friday.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

So Wednesday night I went out for the first time with a fellow 2+2'er, and had a great time.
It does however make me quite happy that I've decided to stay in the outskirts for now, and made it an easy decision for me to find an apartment around here too. I know myself and if I stay close to the nightlife area's I'll end up going there almost every day, and my volume will suffer a lot from the degenning . So until I've 'made it' in mtt's, I'll stay in the outskirts and keep the partying to a couple times a month. Another thing about more central area's is that there are way to many tourists/expats to my liking, I much prefer being surrounded by Thai people and I'm happy to basically be the only farang around where I live.

Also I might have found an apartment. I've been slacking on finding one and basically let the girl I've been dating figure it all out for me. She does however not seem to understand that I don't want to live in a 4 by 4 meter room with no AC for 2k baht/month, so it's been a bit frustrating and I might have to stay in the hotel for a little longer (have to leave on the 10th). Or find another hotel for a week or so.
She found one place however around Bang Khen (Vibhavadi), which looks really nice & modern. It's a 55m2 2br apartment for 15k(400$)/month. We'll head over there tomorrow and see if it's a good fit for me.

As for poker, had quite a frustrating session today. Once again plenty of deep runs but time after time I can't manage to close it when I get deep. However I do realise that this is just the variance that comes with Mtt's, and the fact that I get so many good spots makes me realise that it's only a matter of time before I make another nice ship.

Had a couple cringe-worthy moments today, one of them being this river in the 11 psko with 2 tables left. Pretty standard bad beat but the timing is a good example of how I've been running lately, well over 3k on top if you include the bounties.

Spoiler:

Another spot that grinded my gears was the one below with 80 left in the B27, 5k on top and already had a short stack when I missclick-3bet the hand below (then was forced to call him off due to pot odds). Someone on the forum where I post my hh's pointed out that it was actually a 3x 3-bet, and I've got no idea how I managed to do that while spam clicking the sit-out button. Seems like the poker gods really like screwing me over.

Spoiler:

As for the results, losses weren't too big so basically a breakeven day for me.

Day 17 (05/02)
Total winnings: - $189
Personal winnings: -$77

New roll: $5266
Total winnings 2016: $3176

I did some analysis on my games as well, and I noticed that I'm doing really well at <27$ bi's and really bad at >$28's. Have to head out soon so no time to upload pictures, but here are the SS links:

<27$ 4.8k profit this year 64% ROI

https://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-S...200~1454691599

>28$ -1.6k -85% ROI

https://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-S...200~1454691599

Clearly an extremely small sample, and I'm sure that If I beat the <27s for well over 50%, that I don't lose at the 30s+. But it does show where a big part of the variance comes from.

Only played 4 days this week so I really want to get in a short session on sunday-morning, but I'll see how the weekend goes.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

Thanks guys!

Took my girl out clubbing last night and witnessed something i found quite disturbing. Came back from the bathroom and made eye contact with a cute girl (guessing she was like 20) who was dancing with a guy who looked way over 60. He apparently took notice of it and decided to smack her in the face so hard she literally fell to the ground and started crying. Don't know what happened after since I figured staying around wouldnt do much good so I got the hell out of there. Hope he got his ass kicked but i doubt it.
May sound a little ridiculous from someone who just decided to move to thailand, but its the only thing I really dont like around here, seeing 60+ guys with >40 girls just makes me nauseous, those men must have had really pathetic lifes.

As for poker, really happy to see that im actually crushing thus far (couldnt be sure before i started since last year i played <1k mtt's), and it has definitely raised my confidence of reaching my goal.

Made an effort to make a sunday schedule for me aswell today, and Ill try to start my sundays at 2am from now on, so that'll be a new challenge in itself. The schedule includes 1k worth of bi's of which ~600 is for myself, so my ev right now is quite good.

Lol. Pathetic lifes?

you need to grow up and get ur ego in check man.

Being 60 and being with a 20 year old is balling.

Think being with a ugly, fat ass 60 year old woman is nice?

Get yo **** together bro

You need to stop caring what other people think about you and your life, that way you can maximize the happiness in your life. I give less **** than nuns and im a happy sob.

So many of my friends are caught up in BS thinking about shallow shiet. Dont be that guy. Be the free spirit who enjoys and loves everyone.

If you hit a woman thou, youre a effin douchebag. And im sure he got his. Cause down here people who hit thai people get F:d up.

Best of luck man

@PT

Don't get me wrong, each to his own. But I hardly doubt anyone likes having to watch a 60yo make out with a girl that could be a child. Altho for most it's their own decision and it's probably really not that sad for the girls, it's far from a pretty sight.

Would deinitely consider myself a very happy person and I hardly care what most people think about me, however I doubt disliking a small group of people negatively affects my happiness.

As for balling, I can see how it would be true for a 20/30yo, yet when I'm 60 I'd just hope to have lived enough to not feel the need to have to catch up by doing it with girls the age of my granddaughters.

Maybe I'm just a bit salty because one of the first old guys I see abuses someone in front of my eyes, but can you really blame me tho?

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

What a god-awful sunday that was. Started out quite well by shipping a sat to the million before my grind even started, but it all just went downhill from there.
Had a couple of deep-ish runs, but in all of them I either ran into aces or lost being a 75%+ favorite. No matter what I did, there was no way I could win today.

All this means the set-back in my roll is quite big, dropping all 55's from the schedule for now and will sell action for all 27's.

Day 18 (08/02)
Total winnings: - $735
Personal winnings: -$445

New roll: $4821
Total winnings 2016: $2441

Hopefully starting tomorrow I can get out of this downswing and get a bit lucky at last.

For the people who might be wondering what the list I sell % for looks like, added the one of today below, including results. (Timezone is CET, my zone is +6h)

Op, don't listen to this kind of people please since they don't seem to be the smartest guys in the world.

A: having a girlfriend that is 20years + younger than young is indeed pathetic, what do you tell your parents? Yo, its way more baller to have a young girlfriend dad!
Good luck getting kids when your 60 and she is 27, kid will love to be laughed at in school and loose its father when he's 14ish.

B: Beating up a local in a Country you just came to seems very smart, good luckn in prison guys, and believe me, compared to these kind of prisons American/European prisons are a joke.

Right decision op.

How do you just walk away though.. Not gonna pretend I'd beat him up or that I am braveheart, but how do you just walk away. Get help, a bouncer, the police, something.

edit: Don't want to start a **** war fwiw . But surely they don't allow women getting beat up in Thailand.

Completely agree with cowall, he worded it quite well.

I'm in the middle of a club, its not packed but theres still plenty of people around who saw this. I dont know the girl, dont know the guy, dont know anyone in the club either. For all i know the guy owns the damn place.

If this was in an alley with no one around its a different story, altho I dont claim to beat the sh*t out of him (honestly most 60yo's could probably take me), i would have gotten help.
There were plenty of people around who saw this howrver and I'm confident that I made the right call to stay out of it.

Who gives a **** if he owns the place? He beats on a young girl and you just walk away, that's what matters.

The idea that you would get help in some alley with no one around, but not in a club where a ton of people apparently saw it is honest to god extremely weird to me.

But like I said, I don't want to start some **** storm here as nothing good ever comes from it. I just don't understand how you walk away. It's a club, in Thailand. I know very little of Thailand, but I know that clubs always have 2 things. Bouncers, and cops nearby.

Anyways gl. Hope you make it.

Re: 18 year old making $100k in Thailand

This is the last thing ill say on the matter before this thread derails to a discussion about morals again.

I think we both agree that if a girl is helpless and gets abused by some guy that you should help. However this girl wasn't, there's staff & bouncers walking around everywhere and there's no way that this isn't brought to their attention. I just don't see why I should find a bouncer, who probably doesnt even speak english, just to state the obvious. There's plenty of people around who could inform them if they didnt know yet, and i dont see why I should do it. Doing so would just get me involved, which I'm definitely not looking to do, especially when I'm out with a girl.

I know that a lot of people always want to get involved in other people their business, I'm not like that all. Unless someone's helpless and in serious danger I'll simply mind my own business, especially when I'm in a new place where I shouldn't expect anyone to have my back.

Now if you feel like this makes me a coward then you're entitled to your opinion, I however believe it's just common sense.

This is basically 90% of people, it's also shocking you don't see why you ''should'' do it. If it wasn't so, your story would've been a lot different. It probably would've ended in the old dude getting his ass kicked.

But what ever. Last thing I wanted to do is start drama, there's no way we will ever agree so what ever. I hope you never end up in a situation where people just look at you when you're in need of help, or even better, film it, so they can post it online for views.
