How - Poker and sports betting

Poker:
After taking a couple of years off poker to focus on sport betting i have resumed playing in the last couple of months with reasonable results. I don't have a poker role per say and am playing with my profits from the previous sessions. The plan is to:

Play live 1/3 with occasional 2/5 at crown. I am aiming to play 2 sessions a week with an average of 10 hours a week. Usually sessions are 7+ hours with the occasional 12 hour session so the 10 hours fairly easily achievable.

Time will tell what my true winrate is these days, but if we can barely scrape by at $10 an hour that would at least add up to $4,000 from poker.



Sportsbetting:
The plan is to bet until it hurts. I have found my edge in betting sports and like to hammer the edge home, had a quality year in 2018 but have started poor in 2018. Sports betting will focus on these areas only and I pay very little attention to any other sport from a betting perspective:

1. UFC - My best results the last 2 years, but have been getting destroyed in 2019.
2. Cricket - H2H betting only having recently removed a most runs betting variance leak
3. Horse Racing - focus on Melbourne 99% with 1% of play in group races around the country. We are about to come into the worst period of the year for horse racing (winter) at least for me. But will push through and then really ramp it up in spring.
4. AFL - betting on h2h and lines and exotic plays on most disposals (Group A and B) and most goal bets. Have had most success over the years on these exotic plays but lost on them for the first time ever in 2018.

I will update the thread weekly/monthly with updates on all and will probably only post the occasional non goal related post. Like if I am occasionaly do something that makes my life look better than it really is

Other goals:
Do some exercise?
Improve preflop and shorthanded game and find an online poker option
Revisit my goals

Only opened the thread this week and already making excuses to play...well not really I have an event on so will not be able to play my normal weekday session tomorrow night. Already planning on making up for it on the weekend and will put in a solid session on either Fri or Sat night.

Have had a poor run at the poker tables over the last few weeks. Standard stuff but really feels like you are in the abyss when it all happens at once. Cold decks when you have the second best hand, bad beats when you have the best hand. Never getting there, never hitting your equity.

I am okay with it but over the past 6 sessions have recorded a -958 loss.


Sports betting was also on a lean two weeks but was able to hit a couple of nice winners to increase the p/l on the weekend.
Notably had a afl (most disposals bet) cash that i was on at $46-1 and again at $40-1.
I was actually at the game to cheer this one on, which was nice and ended up winning the bet easily so didn't even need to go through a nasty sweat. If only it was always like that!

I also had a parlay of all my ufc bets cash. So as well as cashing every individial bet on last weekends cowboy v Al card, also took down a 1.4k parlay thanks to a $20 bet.

Landed in perth tonight so will be hitting up a new casino and putting in some hours at least once or twice for the week along side doing some tourist stuff and checking out the ascot race course!

Well, i have not updated for a month and half but a fair bit has happened since.

Poker:

Perth: Played some good hours at Perth and had some decent results. Perth poker room is small but there seems to be a lot of poor middle age recs and the scene seems a couple of years behind the eastern states.
If i was a single man at a different point in my life i would consider some extended stay in Perth to play the 1/3 and 2/5 (2/5 is the same player pool as 1/3) to see exactly how profitable it is. I think very.
I won over 1k on my stay, but of course ran above expectation.

Melbourne: Back in Melbourne have been playing less hours than I would have liked but work/life has been busy and the results when i have played are solid.
Played my first tournament at crown for like 10 years on one of the Friday freezeouts and was the first to bust.
I couldn't get an old Asian man to fold 55 on a flop of 589 vs my QJ.

Sports Betting:

As is typical I have had some roller coaster rides in sports betting. But the last two weeks have been great.

It was a very wet July so i stopped betting the Victorian horses for 4 weekends, but am back into it fully over the last two weeks and now things start heating up towards the best time of year for horse punters. I will be looking to maximize the next 3 months.

UFC was brutal and at one point was down -5k on that alone, before hitting a +30 unit card at the last DC V Stipe event to begin the crawl out of the hole.

AFL betting has been very nice to me, including +7k over the last fortnight. The season will be over in four weeks, which will be a shame but more time to focus the racing season.

Cricket - I have a couple of futures that are currently marked as losers in the below figures. Australia to win the ashes and a lay of England to win the ashes. But after last nights choke job i have no faith in either of these bets atm.

I have only played 2 sessions since the last update. Tried the Friday tournament again and this time wasn't out in first place but was not even close to cashing. #progress.

On level 2 five limpers call around to me in the bb with JJ.
I make it 5 bb's with 90 bb effective stacks and get called 4 ways.

Flop is a rainbow 578
I lead for 9 bbs and a middle aged Asian makes it 27bbs and a middle aged white guy calls and i fold.

They get the rest of the stacks in on a blank turn and the middle age Asian's 810 is good against middle aged white guys k6.

Which gives you an idea of the state of the game early days.

My bust out hand saw me open KK from utg and get 4 callers before the big stack in the big blind shoved. I made the call but couldn't beat his aq
It was a 70bb pot so would have seen me placed okay, but not to be.

Won a little bit in the cash games in both sessions to eeek #something out. Good news is that my boy who i had 40% of chopped 1st and 2nd place which netted me a $1700 result which is a nice result for a battler like me.

With his winnings we have set up a small horse punting syndicate bank where we start with 3k(1.5k each) betting 1k a week (for the first 3 weeks) on my Saturday metro Melbourne bets, in addition to the rest of the sports betting and horse betting i individually do, hopefully a nice little extra earn!.
