THE ECSTASY

March left a bittersweet taste in my mouth. While I should be happy with the results I am not happy with how I handled the swings. Losing 30k then 27k and then 15k is never fun but it was soul crushing for me. I am suffering from a very common concept which is known as ''accumulated tilt''

I am running bellow ev for all my playing history in pokerstars and while I am hanlding the swings better than the past I am certainly not happy with my overall performance on the mental part of grinding. Its not thaaat bad but it could be way better

I took 1-2 days off each time I hitted a big downswing this month. While it seems an amateur attitude I prefer to put in quality grinding hours than grind without a crystal clear focus. Every day I feel the andrenaline of grinding and I am extremely happy that it hasnt faded over the years

On the positive note I am very happy with my working hours per day. I worked 150+ hours while I wasted at least 10 hours waiting the tables to load on 200s+. I am very happy with the abi which stands at 440$ but I am certainly not happy with the amount of 1ks I get even though I am grinding until late night. I did took 4-6 days off because of how hard the downswings hit me and another 3 days off because......ecstasy. More on that later

MTD:

Near 20k rake is always nice but I would prefer a 70% rakeback than a shy 28%

What really helped me this month was watching two youtube videos

One from my favourite youtuber (because he always cracks me up)

The other one from Joey and Limitless

An advice I could give to everyone is watching how successful people (in life not only in poker) are thinking and how they are dealing with various situations in their life could be critical on your thought process

Most funny hand I have seen lately (QTo):

The gym:

Everything is going well with my gym process. Unfortunately I didnt calculate my body fat percentage in the start of the challenge correctly. It is impossible to win the propbet but I will wait until the last day

I am hitting the gym regularly and I am eating properly every day. I did go out twice this month and I drunk alcohol which isnt included in the charts bellow. I didnt include it because a) I am not going to count the amount of drinks when I am having fun b) I dont drink that much anymore. On a night out I have 4-6 half shots of pure vodka and 1-2 glasses of vodka with coke zero

I used to drink an insane amount of jaggermeister redbull 5-6 days per week. It was unhealthy and I am dissapointed with myself. I am doing a tremendous effort to transform my body while I could have an easier life if I was more careful in the recent past

I feel I could lift 10-15kg more in most workouts but the last 2 weeks I am trying to exercise without eating and I feel very weak

I should definitely start hitting abs exercises and more HIIT but I am quite lazy doing abs and I hate treadmill. I prefer playing football as HIIT but it is really difficult to find people playing 2-3x per week

The nightlife:

I dont go out often anymore. I know that most likely my format will be a ghost village in summer. I prefer to put some solid hours until July and then party up

Last Friday (I think) I was out having fun. I spotted an asian girl who was okish and I thought maybe it was time to get my dick wet. I havent had sex for 1.5month and it is the second longest dry period of my life. The first one was 17 years

I was discussing with some guys that I have tried many drugs but not ecstasy. Like never. It was quite suprising that I spent a big part of my life during the night but I never got my hands on this famous dessert. A guy informed me that he could give me some and I was delighted with his offer

He gave me half pill and he told me it is better to take only half because it is too strong. I was ok but not very happy. I tried meth before and I needed bigger dose to get high. He told me the drug will kick in 20-30mins . Most people warned me I will feel chill and I will want to communicate with other people more but I will not be able to have sex

Moreover the music will be more clear and the lights will be smoother. 15 mins passed and nothing. 20Mins passed and nothing. 30 mins passed and nothing. I was trying to concentrate in the music in order to force myself to get high but I couldnt

I was dissapointed and semi frustrated. A guy asked me if I am there and I was ''fml no''. 45Mins passed and nothing changed. I gave up and I told myself is not going to happen. Then paaaaaaw

The drug kicked in. I was falling but I was standing. Everything became more beautiful. Every girl seemed super hot. The okish asian was a top notch model now. I felt weak. Really weak. Like I couldnt move. Happily weak. The lights, the lights were amazing. The lights were so smooth that I wanted to swim there. The music. Oh god I hated the music. It was super loud. Then the guy asked me if the drug kicked in or not. No response. He knew

Finally we got out from there and we went in another club. Or they did. Somehow I couldnt catch up and I missed them. I was observing everyone and the most weird experience happened. Everything was in super slow motion and then super fast. That happened sometimes and I tried really hard to avoid laughing

I went into a club alone. I started dancing with a girl. I dont remember talking to her at all. Then I left. I started walking around and I felt fulfillment. Everything was moving at a normal pace now. I felt cold. Really cold and I decided to return in my appartment. I had a steady pace and I felt all my body synchronized. I could hear my breath from my ears. I could hear my heart beating. Everything was amazing

On my way home I found 3 women getting into their car. I wanted to have sex but I knew I couldnt. The desire was huge but I didnt went for it. I waved and walked away

The following 3 days were not that amusing though. I felt sleepy all the time. I was sleeping for 12 hours and I had the desire to sleep more. My normal routine is sleeping 5-6 hours. The difference was huge. I felt a bit hangover the following days. I didnt grind as I felt my brain wasnt sharp. I spent the days relaxing and watching football

The quarter finals of champions league are:

Dortmund – Monaco
Juventus – Barcelona
Atletico – Leicester
Bayern Munich – Real Madrid

I will take a risk and make a prediction for each fixture

Dortmund – Monaco: Monaco
Juventus – Barcelona: Juve
Atletico – Leicester: Atletico
Bayern Munich – Real Madrid: Bayern

As a Real Madrid fan I would like to watch Real in semi finals but I think their defensive approach will cost them. Ancelotti's teams are playing way better from March onwards and even though Madrid has superior individual skill, I cant see how they can get past Bayern

If Zidane decides to take a more conservative approach like he did with Manchester City the year before, the games will be equal. If he decides to take the same gang ho approach as in La Liga, I think Madrid will be destroyed

If we take into consideration the approach he took against Napoli, I cant see how bayern will score less than six goals in both legs

No matter what

HALA MADRID

Nice update OP. Saw you playing everything from 60s to 1ks yday. Why you decided to fire "low" stakes?
P.S. Loled at your first ecstasy experience. It reminded my first time haha. As said, sex after escstasy is on the new level of difficultness
And Juve have no chance against Barca. Not after what they achieved against PSG in 2nd leg. Therefore Real against Bayern will be a MASSIVE clash. Not a fan of Real, but they can surely do the job.
Gl with your goals and keep us updated.

Finally some good new from pokerstars. They are planning to reduce rakeback even more

Bill Gates, Warren Buffett And Oprah All Use The 5-Hour Rule

Top business leaders often spend five hours per week doing deliberate learning. In the article “Malcolm Gladwell got us wrong”, the researchers behind the 10,000-hour rule set the record straight: different fields require different amounts of deliberate practice in order to become world class.

If 10,000 hours isn’t an absolute rule that applies across fields, what does it really take to become world class in the world of work?
Over the last year, I’ve explored the personal history of many widely-admired business leaders like Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Mark Zuckerberg in order to understand how they apply the principles of deliberate practice.

What I’ve done does not qualify as an academic study, but it does reveal a surprising pattern.
Many of these leaders, despite being extremely busy, set aside at least an hour a day (or five hours a week) over their entire career for activities that could be classified as deliberate practice or learning.

I call this phenomenon the 5-hour rule

How the best leaders follow the 5-hour rule

For the leaders I tracked, the 5-hour rule often fell into three buckets: reading, reflection, and experimentation.

1. Read

According to an HBR article, “Nike founder Phil Knight so reveres his library that in it you have to take off your shoes and bow.”
Oprah Winfrey credits books with much of her success: “Books were my pass to personal freedom.” She has shared her reading habit with the world via her book club.

These two are not alone. Consider the extreme reading habits of other billionaire entrepreneurs:

-Warren Buffett spends five to six hours per day reading five newspapers and 500 pages of corporate reports.
-Bill Gates reads 50 books per year.
-Mark Zuckerberg reads at least one book every two weeks.
-Elon Musk grew up reading two books a day, according to his brother.
-Mark Cuban reads more than 3 hours every day.
-Arthur Blank, co-founder of Home Depot, reads two hours a day.
-Billionaire entrepreneur David Rubenstein reads six books a week.
-Dan Gilbert, self-made billionaire and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, reads one to two hours a day.

2. Reflect

Other times, the 5-hour rule takes the form of reflection and thinking time.

AOL CEO Tim Armstrong makes his senior team spend four hours per week just thinking. Jack Dorsey is a serial wanderer. LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner schedules two hours of thinking time per day. Brian Scudamore, the founder of the 250 million-dollar company, O2E Brands, spends 10 hours a week just thinking.

When Reid Hoffman needs help thinking through an idea, he calls one of his pals: Peter Thiel, Max Levchin, or Elon Musk. When billionaire Ray Dalio makes a mistake, he logs it into a system that is public to all employees at his company. Then, he schedules time with his team to find the root cause. Billionaire entrepreneur Sara Blakely is a long-time journaler. In one interview, she shared that she has over 20 notebooks where she logged the terrible things that happened to her and the gifts that have unfolded as a result.

3. Experiment

Finally, the 5-hour rule takes the form of rapid experimentation.

Throughout his life, Ben Franklin set aside time for experimentation, masterminding with like-minded individuals, and tracking his virtues. Google famously allowed employees to experiment with new projects with 20% of their work time. Facebook encourages experimentation through Hack-A-Months.

The largest example of experimentation might be Thomas Edison. Even though he was a genius, Edison approached new inventions with humility. He would identify every possible solution and then systematically test each one of them. According to one of his biographers, “Although he understood the theories of his day, he found them useless in solving unknown problems.”

He took the approach to such an extreme that his competitor, Nikola Tesla, had this to say about the trial-and-error approach: “If [Edison] had a needle to find in a haystack, he would not stop to reason where it was most likely to be, he would proceed at once with the feverish diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search.”

The power of the 5-hour rule: improvement rate

People who apply the 5-hour rule in the world of work have an advantage. The idea of deliberate practice versus just working hard is often confused. Also, most professionals focus on productivity and efficiency, not improvement rate. As a result, just five hours of deliberate learning a week can set you apart.

Billionaire entrepreneur Marc Andreessen poignantly talked about improvement rate in a recent interview. “I think the archetype/myth of the 22-year-old founder has been blown completely out of proportion… I think skill acquisition, literally the acquisition of skills and how to do things, is just dramatically underrated. People are overvaluing the value of just jumping into the deep-end of the pool, because like the reality is that people who jump into the deep end of the pool drown. Like, there’s a reason why there are so many stories about Mark Zuckerberg. There aren’t that many Mark Zuckerbergs. Most of them are still floating face down in the pool. And so, for most of us, it’s a good idea to get skills.”

Later in the interview he adds, “The really great CEOs, if you spend time with them, you would find this to be true of Mark [Zuckerberg] today or of any of the great CEOs of today or the past, they are really encyclopedic of their knowledge of how to run a company, and it’s very hard to just intuit all of that in your early 20s. The path that makes much more sense for most people is to spend 5–10 years getting skills.”

We should look at learning like we look at exercise.

We need to move beyond the cliche, “Life-long learning is good,” and think more deeply about what the minimum amount of learning the average person should do per day in order to have a sustainable and successful career.

Just as we have minimum recommended dosages of vitamins, steps per day, and aerobic exercise for leading a healthy life physically, we should be more rigorous about how we as an information society think about the minimum doses of deliberate learning for leading a healthy life economically.

The long-term effects of NOT learning are just as insidious as the long-term effects of not having a healthy lifestyle. The CEO of AT&T makes this point loud and clear in an interview with the New York Times; he says that those who don’t spend at least 5 to 10 hours a week learning online “will obsolete themselves with technology.”

Interested in applying the 5-hour rule to your life?

Bottom line: the busiest, most successful people in the world find at least an hour to learn EVERYDAY. So can you!

There are just three steps you need to take in order to create your own learning ritual:

-Find the time for reading and learning even if you are really busy and overwhelmed.
-Stay consistent on using that ‘found’ time without procrastinating or falling prey to distraction.
-10x the results you receive from each hour of learning.

I feel sick the last two days. It affects both my mental game, my grinding quality and i skipped gym both days. I will try to do daily updates from tomorrow to help my pathetic mental game which forces me to stop after 10 games

Juventus played amazing as expected, Barcelona was pathetic defensively as expected. Too bad i didnt bet a single cent on them. Hopefully Madrid will sign Dybala next year. I think Dybala and Bellotti are the next best strikers but i would like to see Bellotti playing for my favourite manager #JoseMourinho

Tough game for Real Madrid today. As i said i expect Madrid to concede 6 goals in both games. I do hope Zidane will approach the game with an ultra defensive mentality

Hala Madrid!!!

Dortmund's bus was target of a bombing attack yesterday. Devastating news. They are lucky noone was injured heavily. I expect Dortmund's and Atletico's matches to be high scoring with many opportunities

The most tilting thing is i searched the regulars i am playing the most and this is how they are doing in my tables

Apparently i am fish that i cant get these 5-17% rois

On the positive side Real won yesterday. Martinez got a red card and rest was history

Last two days were swingy. I didnt play much today as i was watching Manchester United dominating Chelsea #priorities. I still feel sick which affects my mood (more) while grinding

I am quite happy with the hours i put even though i dont feel well

The most negative part is eating junk food since i couldnt workout. Excuses? Truth?

I am not in mood to cook anything healthy. I am looking forward to hit the gym again

I do consider to sign up in Elliot's Mind Academy. I am preoccupied and i dont think it will help me because i tried several times in that area without any success. I have made peace with variance....or not?

Running a small fortune bellow ev doesnt help but this is when i need my mental game to be strong

Taking the rest of the day off
