"Proper preparation prevents poor performance"
This is one of my favorite quotes and it is especially true when it comes to poker. If you put in the work off the table and have a game plan then the results will come. For me, putting in the hours has always been the hard part.
With that being said, today I woke up and made a blue print for how I am going to approach May and hit my goal of making $1000/month from poker. Here is the game plan:
1. Playing in the softest games.
On almost all sites 25nl is pretty soft. Some sites however are still softer than others. From my experience, any site that allows US players on it is going to be one of the softest out there. I will be playing on 3 sites. 2 of them allow US players which are Ignition and ACR. My third site will be Pokerstars. Despite stars being one of the tougher sites out there, it still has plenty of fish floating around and the most games running. It will help with volume.
2. Game / Seat selection.
Having position on the fish is obviously one of the best things in poker. I am going to use a very strict criteria when it comes to sitting in a game. If the fish is no in one of the 3 seats to my right, I will not sit. (unless the guy is a mega whale 70+vpip). I will also be starting tables from time to time because this is the best way to get on good tables without using a seating script or waiting forever on huge wait lists. It's also good to get some HU/SH practice in too and I think a lot of FR regs do not play SH well.
3. Studying to improve my game.
Every morning I am going to put in a lab session to work on my game. My daily study routine will look something like this:
- Review marked hands from previous days session.
- Watch a RIO video related to the area of my game I am working on.
- Go over spots in Pokersnowie and practice SH / HU vs Snowie Bot for warmup before session.
4. Playing my A game consistently.
Consistency is very important in poker. For me, I have to get every task that I need to do for the day done before I start grinding. This way I can give 100% focus to poker. If I sit around all day and neglect the things I need to do and then start grinding it usually never goes well and losing feels even worse. I cant sit and grind for 10 hours straight like some people. I usually keep my sessions to around 4 hours, then take a break for a bit and get back at it again once I am feeling refreshed. I also think being healthy helps a lot with maintaining focus. I am currently going to the gym 6x a week and eating clean. No fast food / soda etc. All prepped and planned meals.
5. Playing at the best times.
The best time to grind is on weekends. I however work weekends
Games are not as good during the week so I will be trying my best to play during prime time on all the sites I am grinding. For Stars its usually around 2pm - 8pm and on the US sites its around 8pm - 4am. I will be doing my best to grind during these times. I will probably play my first session starting around 2-6pm and then my second from 8-2am. I am going to create a little schedule after this to make sure I am making the most of my time.
So there we go. This will be how I approach poker for the foreseeable future. Ill see you guys May 1!~
