[CENTER]Hello ALL and welcome to my challange!

My name is Troy and I go by the Stars username troysouth010. I have played Poker on and off for the past 10 years and have had some decent success with micro/low stakes mtt's but have never grinded full time to the point where I have a bankroll able to grind the mid to high stakes which is what i'm trying to achieve in this challenge.

Due to health reasons, I had taken a break for the last 3 years. Just before this I had been accepted into the backing stable Pocarr and had split some decent scores with them in that short space of time. Now its time to do it on my own.

Poker has introduced itself back into my life by the way of some casino free spins over at Stars which converted to $3. Rather than gambling this again, I decided to see if I could grind this up on the $0.25 SNG's. A few weeks later and several sessions of micro stakes battling, i'm here with a $100 roll and ready to crack on. Enough small talk, lets get into this.

To start with, I will be grinding 1500 $0.50 turbo SNG'S (45, 90, 180 man) between now and the end of April. Starting with 50 games today (14/04/2020) and 100 games every other day. I will not be looking at profit/loss after each session and the bankroll will remain hidden until the end of the 1500 SNG's. Hopefully this will add another $100 to the roll, enabling me to add on some $1 MTT's across several Poker networks. The reason I am not looking at the roll during the games is to remain non results orinetated. I am hoping to achieve an ROI of 20% which past results have shown can easily be achieved on these games. The whole point of this 1500 games is to get back into the rhythm of grinding, dealing with swings and crushing games again.

I would greatly appreciate your views and tips towards this challenge. I will try my best to post as many updates as possible as well as tricky hands I find myself in and how I am dealing with the swings mentally. I will reset my scope statistics closer to 14/04/2020 as soon as I can subscribe to sharkscope, if anyone can do this for me please let me know. Also as I am completely new to some of the crazy changes occurring to the Poker scene since I took this break, I would greatly appreciate any help in directing me to good websites to study my MTT and SNG game and to discuss hands.

Good luck to all other grinders during these difficult times! Will post an update tonight after the first 50 games.

Starting bankroll of the challenge

Which will remain hidden until our first 1500 games!

Day 1 14/04/2020

Games Played: 25
Performance: 8

So today I played my first session of the challenge.

Due to it taking longer than expected to set things up I only played one session of 25 SNG's. I was planning to play more but as it got later I decided to end it at 25.

I played pretty sound but a few tough spots i'm unsure about which I will look into. i got kinda rushed as the table count got higher so wasn't able to mentally confirm I took the perfect plays in these spots. But altogether there weren't too many of these situations and most the play was straight forward crushing donks.

I have no idea how much I made/loss as I am not looking at the bankroll. I don't feel its important at this stage. I did however take down a 45 man and came 2nd in another 3 so i'm sure it was a profitable session but like I said that's irrelevant at this stage.
I will fit in the 25 games missed in the next few days. Will be grinding 100 games tomorrow and cant wait! GLGL!!

So due to waiting all day for a delivery I started late around 7pm.

Still managed to squeeze in 60 games.

I kinda felt like I tried to cram in too many games and found myself a bit rushed in some tricky spots again like yesterday. Im going to try to improve on this tomorrow. I did attempt to improve this on the second session which I feel I did to some extent.

I felt I played solidly overall and many bad plays from opponents at these stakes lead to many final table spots with 3 1st's and a 2nd all 45 mans in the second session. Not bad to start but still do not want to see the balance and do not care tbh!

Today was one of those days where we just know we are going to run horribly after seeing the first few all ins. Just couldn't manage to get my fair share of equity and lost most key pots late stages.

In all fairness to myself, I handled it quite well and still battled on to try not to swing to hard but it was inevitable. Its always an important reminder of how difficult this game is to succeed at but also its clear to see where the money is to be made with so many horrendous plays from my opponents. I just need to take it all on the chin and grind on tomorrow, hoping to run just average. Running just average is all I need to capitalise in these fish filled games.

A hand to sum up the day. Getting it in vs fish all day but failing to hold.

Today I tried to play more hours, but with a lower table count during sessions. Just lately I feel a little overwhelmed when hitting that 30 table mark where im making decisions just that little bit too quickly to be sure im playing my A game so to make up for that I started earlier. I still didnt hit that 100 games per day mark but im OK as not everything goes to plan with poker and I feel I needed a little time to warm up after such a long break.

The first session I played pretty well but ran pretty badly. There were a few spots i'm unsure whether I took the max EV line in the heat of things which i'm going to go over at some point.

The second session went better skill wise and run wise. I felt most decisions I made the perfect line. I did run bad towards the later stages failing to reach those first 3 place finishes but many small cashes will help a little.

The third session I was extremely happy with how I played. I failed to find one spot where I had made a mistake throughout. I made around 10 final tables just in those 25 games but once again at the very last stages I took some brutal beats to deny me the wins but i'm very happy with how I played the whole session and that should matter far more than actually making a profit or loss.

I'm enjoying poker a lot more again lately and already cant wait for the grind tomorrow!

Today I tried to focus more on playing my A game rather than actually how many games played or how frequent I am winning. The first set of 25 I was rather happy with how I played but the run good was not quite there again towards the later stages but a few decent cashes made it roughly break even.

I played extremely well during the second set but it was quite alarming when my 25 tables suddenly crashed to 2 tables bricking everything with some bad beats along with coolers. Left in a 180 turbo and a 90 turbo, I managed a 4th in the 180 and a 2nd in the 90 which completely saved the session and ended up making it profitable. It just shows to never give up as Pokerstars has its way of screwing you over on everything but saving the day with your last tournament. As long as your still in one, there is always a chance of saving the day!

So today was kind of mistake even playing. I felt a little unwell and groggy with a bit of a headache before the session started but wanted to still get the games in for the challenge.

Half way through the session I just felt my eyes closing and couldnt mentally focus. I tried to finish it out but im sure many mistakes were made but I did close out a 45 player turbo which made up half of the buy ins so it wasnt a complete disaster. I have been going to bed a bit late recently so im going to use this as an oppurtunity to catch up on some sleep and prepare for a full day grinding tomorrow.

Such a shame being its a Sunday and I see a whopping 340,000 players online on Pokerstars??? CoronaPokerboom.

Hi all!

So yesterday was one of those horrible days as a poker player. The cards went against me from the very first hand right up until the last and did not give way even towards the second or third session. It was mentally draining playing for hours getting cooler after cooler bad beat after bad beat. I did take it all on the chin mostly but it was a little tilting towards the end of the day as I kind of expected to run a little on the last session but it was just never meant to be.

It is a good job I am not looking at the bankroll during these first 1500 games as i'm sure it went on a freefall yesterday which would have been even more tilting.

Altogether so far its a bit disappointing the challenge could not have got off to a flying start as I feel many of these first 7 days have been losing/breakeven days but thats the game I chose to play for a living so ill carry on grinding through it!

Today I spent a bit of time organising things outside of Poker so didn't get as many games in as usual but thankfully the games I did play went pretty well.

I feel I played pretty damn good throughout both sessions and during all stages of the tournaments. I had some periods where the run bad appeared again and whiped out a bunch of tables but luckily I had kept my cool and battled on.

The first session ended with many final tables out of the initial 25 and I managed to win 2 45 player turbos aswell as coming 2nd in another 2 with some other final table finishes so im sure it was a reasonably profitable session.

The next session appeared to go terrible as my table count once again shrank from 25 to 3 in a matter of minutes most of the time getting it in with the best of it only to lose but as previously learned in these situations its best to stay focus, dont let anything affect your decision making and finish out all tables before making a judgement on how well a session goes.

The last 3 tables I managed a 2nd in a 180 player turbo and 2 3rds in 45 player turbos which more than saved the day! Maybe it is time for our well overdue upswing?!

First hand of a tournament at the start of the second session that screams, the run bad is over, here comes the run good!

So today seemed to be yet another break evenish day with not alot great coming out of either of the two sessions played but in terms of skill I was very happy with how I played and I got myself in many great spots, finding it pretty easy to get it in good but finding it not so easy to hold on occasions.

Im starting to get my A game back after the long break I had which im over the moon about. I can feel my confidence coming back and im sure once I really get going there will be no looking back on this challenge. Its really great I have people supporting me through it in these difficult times and allowing me to dedicate most of my time into the game because they do believe in me as a Poker player as we do know what i'm capable of. That was the main reason for me creating this challenge as I know it will help me to stay organised and focused.

I see so many of these challenges go up but some way through the OP quits and im going to make sure this will not be one of those challenges. No matter how hard or how long it takes sooner or later this will get completed!

Now that my confidence is creeping back I think it would be a good time to start really pushing for it in terms of volume and I will start to play a minimum of 100 games per day. Looking forward to tomorrow!

GL with this, I'm considering doing something similar. Used to play the 2.50 180's with some 3r's and mtt's mixed in.

What 0.25's did you grind? 90 mans? Whereabouts in the UK are your from? Im from Wales.

Hey Daniel. Gl if you do decide to start your grind keep me updated and thanks for the GL!

I played the 45 and 90 mans. As I started with such a small roll and did not have the 100 buy ins for the 0.25 level I started off by 4 tabling until I built it up past $25 then I started to mass table.

And ahh nice im from Birmingham. Hows the lockdown over there? Getting any easier?

So guys I only played 25 yesterday as I had a really rough night the night before and only had a few hours sleep which left me feeling groggy the whole day and I felt it would be a bad idea to play any more.

Day 10 23/04/2020

Session 1 (TOTAL)

Games Played: 25
Performance: 9

As I started feeling unwell around the middle point of the session I decided I would only play that 1 session and would play it well. I did not make any noticeable mistakes and got it in good on almost every occasion. I ran OK, nothing special and managed to make a few 2nd places in the 45 mans which I think helped to make it a slightly profitable session.

Today I am having a day off as its my fiancees birthday. I don't' think it would be +EV relationship wise to play any poker today! Jokes aside I will spend the day with her and try to give her a day to remember with all this coronavirus bollocks going on. Ill try not to get too smashed so I can still function to play tomorrow!

Gl anyone grinding!

Yeah im playing the $0.25 45 mans now. Hopefully I can build it up quick and move on, maybe see you at the $.50's soon!!

Lockdowns a pain. Really enjoying the weather and the time with wife and kids but future work is a bit of a worry. I'm a self employed electrician and its a bit concerning what the long term affects on the construction industry will be.

Day 11 25/04/2020

Session 1

Games Played: 25
Performance: 10

Session 2

Games Played: 25
Performance: 10

So today was a very interesting day Poker wise. The first session went average, i'm guessing it was break even. I played very well and was happy with all the decisions I made. I most likely made a profit on the 45 man turbos but didn't manage to get any decent scores in the 90 or 180 mans which you need to make a good session.

The second session was very interesting. It started to look like it would be one of the best sessions of the challenge as I was running pretty hot and ran up a bunch of stacks out of the 25 tables but all of a sudden my internet connection started messing around and disconnected me. It actually occurred at a point where I had AA in the late stages of one and raised 2.5x preflop and as I disconnected I got to see on the replay that somebody went all in over the top and I had folded due to the disconnect. This left me in a raging tilt but I continued to battle on and once again the internet disconnected, at a point when I had AA again and it made me fold!!!!

I continued to battle on and kept my cool which I am proud of myself for doing. I managed to take down a few 45 man turbos and was left in one 90 player turbo and one 180 player turbo. From being seriously shortstacked throughout the entire bubble and the final table I eventually managed a 4th place in the 90 player and I shipped the 180!. I was basically in last place from around 30 players left until 3 handed where I just seemed to run the other 2 players right over! Great session for the challenge and a great relief after many average/loosing days!

Last hand of the day..

Hey, I like that you rate your quality of play on a daily basis. I started doing it myself as of a couple months ago with solid results. GL

Good luck with that bro hope it goes well. Those games are quite soft and are a good way to get back into it as the structure gives you plenty of time to wait for hands to own the fish. Its completely different moving to the $0.50's as you gotta make moves a lot quicker and cant be as patient even though its micro.

The lockdown does suck though. The weather is lovely here too im making sure I enjoy it as much as im allowed lol. I may see you at the $0.50's but im hoping to move up very soon!

It sounds like Poker may help you out in your situation if you take it seriously. One thing I learned from my Pocarr days was that studying is key these days. Im studying for at least 30 minutes before I start playing poker on any day. Poker is definitely a way to make a better income than most jobs about and can survive any lockdown. I have a few friends that have made 100k a year grinding just mid stakes mtt's and sng's. Its doable you just gotta put the work in.

Either way mate nice to meet you and defo let me know how it goes. Keep me updated.

I agree its helped a lot. Its best to be as honest as you can so that you know if you are playing your A game or not. If you are not then you can focus more on playing your A game rather than just playing for profit and vice versa. Thanks and GL too.

So today guys I am taking the day off as I will be playing the Sunday Storm Anniversary. I will be using separate funds to play this but if I do make any profit it can go towards the challenge seen as just chilling from the grind a little to do some Poker studying and play this beast of a tournament.

1st place would bean the challenge completed already lol

So as a follow up I managed 3551th out of the 128k runners for a score of $45.65. I fancied a deeper run but my AJ suited never managed to hit the board vs an 88 all in pre for 12 BB's but I gotta be happy with the result.

So as noted If I would have busted I would have deposited the $11 back but as I made a profit of $34.65 this will be added to the balance for the challenge which is a great result progress wise for the challenge!

I still have not looked at the balance and still will not until 1500 games played total for the challenge which hopefully should be soon.

Tomorrow I will be back to grinding the 0.50's and I cant wait.

Hope you all did well this Sunday!

Nice little bankroll boost from the Storm mate. You managed a deeper run than me. My KK couldn't hold out v AKo and I exited around the 60,000th mark lol.

Think we were at the same table the other day, maybe Sat? I'l check my database and see how badly I spewed against you

Re: studying, yeah this is something I def need to put more time into. Used to study a lot when I was part of the Team Mori stable, hopefully I can get back into that mindset. Currently re-reading Kill Everyone, although I realise its probably outdated now.

What software is used for studying now? Used to be HEM and SNG Wiz when I last played. Tableninja still auto reg you on Stars??

Hey Daniel.

Yeh its still TN2 for auto reg. In terms of studying I will spend either 1 hour per day watching videos with good content or i'm spending an hour analysing tricky spots in my own games.

Also I am studying for when I reach the mid stakes mtt level. I personally feel everything below $5 is pretty straight forward its not necessary to go too deep strategy wise with such weak fields. Let me know how you get on bro all the best!
