I've actually been thinking about it. There are 3 main reasons though:

1. I have no idea how to run a business.
2. There might be a reason why nobody is doing this, that I'm not seeing.
3. I don't know what my business would be doing/selling exactly.

Public administration.

After I finish uni, I'll start playing poker professionally. I'm making more at poker than I'd probably ever be able to make at a normal government job.

In my country you need to work for 40 years to retire at 60 y/o, or 15 years to retire at 65 y/o. Both of my grandpas died when they were 60, so I don't really care all that much about getting pension anyways. I'm good at saving money, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'd probably start officially working at around my 50th birthday (maybe open my own business) and then get pension at 65. That's the long term plan hah.

Government jobs are a good back up plan though in case poker becomes completely illegal in my country or something. It shouldn't be too hard to get them even without much work experience and you don't just get fired for no reason.

I actually used to play up to 600nl at some point too, hah.

A fun story:
In 2013 I deposited 50€ to the cake poker network. I first started playing 20nl HU vs regs (back then I was still unsure weather I should focus on HU or 6-max). I was running like a god. I kept winning with almost no variance and moved to 50nl - still winning. Then to 100nl - still winning. 200nl - still winning. I felt like a poker god, "I'm the best HU player in the world!". Then I moved up to 400nl and was break even after a few sessions. Then moved up to 600nl to play vs probably one of the best 600nl regs. This was his graph at the time:

Let's just say that the variance hit back. I had the worst $ downswing in my life. Lost around 1500€ in a single session while short stacking 600nl.

I felt really terrible at that point. Was still up 702€ for the month after all that, but decided to stop playing HU and focus on 6-max from that point on.

And yes, that all happened in the span of 1 month.

I can't PM you btw. You don't have enough posts yet.

June 2019:

Bankroll is at 18.8k

I also made 118,27€ profit with crypto, but that won't count towards the challenge of course.

It was my first time trying it, but looking at its graph I just felt that Ethereum was about to go up, so I bought one. Ended up selling it at just the perfect time, when I expected it to go down again.

I probably won't be doing that again, since I realistically have close to no knowledge about crypto. It's a gamble at best for me, so I think I'll just quit while I'm still up

About poker... I banned myself from poker for the first 16 days of the month (exams). In the last half of the month however, I felt pretty motivated and put in some decent volume.

As promised, I'll try to make the $3000+ profit happen in July.

I think it'll be pretty impressive if I actually achieve this, since I'll also be working in the internship the whole month.

Anyways, some hands from the last sessions:

I'm not 100% about these spots, but it was likely the optimal play vs this guy.

Why not play NL50? You don't have a 2.5x winrate playing nl20, and I'm sure the rake is higher in terms of bb cap, at least where I play it is.

Unless you can't get enough tables to play at nl50 for long hours on your site, thats the only valid justification.

Judging from his results and other posts, I think ZKesic has the winrate and ability to get 100K eventually playing only 20nl. Main issues would be the time required to do it and the risks associated with it (poker being 100% banned from his country, site going bankrupt etc) and burnout. Would be quite an achievement anyway, way better than the old blackrain guy masstabling the nanos back in the day.

I'm playing ~1500 hands/hr at fast poker right now.
If I moved to 50nl, I'd have to play normal tables, so that would only be ~500 hands/hr probably. Even if my WR stayed the same, I'd still be making less $ per hour with higher variance.

I've already planned for the worse case scenarios:

        1. If poker gets 100% banned in my country, I could use a VPN and make a deal with someone to play poker on his account and cash out through his Skrill.

        2. Burnout also isn't a problem for me, since I find poker much more pleasant than a normal job (especially since the variance is so low for me) and I can take a vacation whenever I feel like it.

        3. I've been keeping exact track of my poker results since the day I started playing and have had decent win rates on pretty much all of the sites. It's not a problem for me to move if the current site goes bankrupt (it has actually happened before on WinCake and I lost all of the money I had on there, which is why I now always cash out my winnings at the end of every month).

These are my lifetime results (to 1€ accurate) across the 26 sites that I've played on so far:

I don't totally agree with OP but respect his decision, the goal of a poker player is to improve his life by playing this game, OP chose less variance and decided to cap his ceiling, but if the money is going to improve his life a lot compared to the risks of moving up and failing, then it's ok.

He is also studying at the uni, so he has a backup plan, he seems to be wiser and more focused on reality than a lot of people in here.

I agree with .isolated to some degree, or at least, I understand his point of view.

The problem is that whenever I do the math in my head, I come to the conclusion that even if I move up to 100nl right now, and am one of the best regs there, make 5bb/100 and play 500 hands/hr, I will at best have the same hourly as I do right now ($25-30).

I also checked yearly stats of some 100nl/200nl regs at 2+2 and they don't seem to be making more than that.

I might consider moving up sometime in the future, but for now, I'm happy where I'm at.
