Hello, this is my first PGC thread.
I'm a 22 year old university student from Canada. I started playing online poker in 2017, deposited $60USD on PokerStars. First 10 months I was a slight winner by playing 2NL and 2NLz. Along with 2 lucky tournaments that earned me $75, My bankroll went up to $180.Then in the next 3 months, I had an upswing and my bankroll went up to $300 by only playing 2NL, 2NLz, 5NL and a bit of 5NLz.
In the next month, December 2018, I challenged myself to play 100k hands in a month (previously my volume was like 20k hands a month). I mostly played 4 tables of 5NLz and got wrecked hard. Almost every session was like a 2-3BI loss. I ended the challenge at 50k hands because I was too tilted and my bankroll dropped to $125.
In 2019, I played a lot less, due to recovering from tilt in December 2018 and Internet issues. I only played 40k hands so far and won a little in cash. Another couple of tournament cashes got me to my current bankroll, $168.89.
Now almost half a year has passed. I feel better and recently fixed my Internet.
My goals for now are:
- Play 10k cash game hands in June (currently 2.3k)
- Get my bankroll back to $300
- Chase losses in 5NLz
- Study by watching RIO videos, maybe go over some hands I played
I'm planning to play some 2NLz and 5NL first before going into 5NLz, just to gain back some confidence and experience (For cash games I have only ever played 6 max). I'm planning to complete the first two goals by not playing 5NLz. I may also play some MTTs in the weekend, depending on if I have time (the max buy-in I play is $2.2).

Will post hand histories and graphs afterwards.

Day 1

Always nice to start the thread strong. Played 2NLz (4 tables) in the morning, 5NL (6 tables) in the afternoon (expecting more fish in EDT afternoon), then ended with 2NLz again at night.

Ran pretty well, with 0 preflop all-in losses and no bad beats or suckouts.
Now I have 5k hands in this month. 5k to go.

When reviewing, I think this fold is too nitty, because Villain can only have TT here that beats me, he may also shove with KdXd, but he can only have KdQd (Kd9d?) and that is one combo, he has 3 combos of TT. Maybe shove with AK?

Maybe should have bet the river, because Villain is going to bet with KK and AA, so he won't have KK and AA after he checks the third time.

I'm still missing 3.7k hands for this month's 10k goal. I will be playing 4 2NLz tables and 1 5NLz tables (if I'm feeling good) today to catch up.

Ended up finishing my 10k hands on June goal, but on the last day of June...

I played 4 2NLz tables and 1 5NLz table at the same time. Lost $10 in 5NLz and lost $7 in 2NLz.
Feels like setting a "x hands in a month" goal isn't good for me, because I'll end up cramming them in the end, and I can't play my A-game when I'm playing 5-6 zoom tables at the same time.
Month breakdown

For July, I'm probably going to set an hours goal instead. In June, I played 13 hours 40 minutes of cash games. I'm going to try 30 hours in July.

Wow! I didn't notice that 3 weeks has passed already since I last posted.
Played 2 sessions today. Went pretty well, although in the 2nd session, I got tilted a bit when my AA lost to KK in 2 out of 3 boards (2 all-ins, lost a board in run it twice and lost one in run it once). Luckily later I won a KK vs AK run it twice, so I felt more relieved and won the session.

For this month, I set a 30 hour time goal, currently I'm at 11 hours 25 minutes, still missing 18 hours 35 minutes. It's going to be a bit hard to complete, since I only have a week left, and I have an event on Saturday whole day. We'll see.

Quick update: Didn't go to the Saturday event, so I stayed home and played 6 hours of poker. Went pretty well, won 8 BIs in 4k hands. Yesterday didn't play much, played the $2.2 Triple Threat MTT and only got $1.5 from bounties. Also played a bit cash games.
Hour goal: 21:07/30:00
It's the end of the month, so it's cram time again. I need 9 hours of poker in 3 weekdays. It's going to be hard, since I have an 8 hour job, I go to the gym and other times I chill.
Also going to try 10 tabling for the first time. I'm not on a number of hands target, so I can easily decrease tables if I don't feel well. I don't want to just open 1 table and do other stuff though, since that technically counts as play time.

Sub´d!

Consistently watching RIO videos and focusing on bring the concepts to your game (do not bring all of them at the same time, slow and steady wins) should led to you becoming a nice winner at uNL very soon.

But make HH review (and db review also) a big part of your study time. You have to be sure you´re really applying the concepts the right way, and it´s better to do it in a calmer environment.

Thanks FazendeiroBH!

Played 10 tables of 5NL for 2.5 hours. The cards weren't that good today, every time I get an overpair or TPTK, the board becomes something like 78T two suits or 4567 on the turn, so couldn't extract value from Villain. Still won like less than $0.5. Then I wanted to complete 3 hours today but didn't want to try that hard, so I opened 6 2NL tables, and lost 2 BIs in 200 hands. One was AK vs AA preflop all-in and another is my aces getting cracked (shown below). The ones I won in 5NL weren't that special either, just flopping flush and full houses and Villain had good hands too, plus an AA vs KK.

Hand 6
The AA hand in 2NL. I may have over-relied on HUD. I think Villain is a nit so when he raised flop, he should have 66,88 or JJ, so OTR when there is a K and a possible flush, I re-raised him all-in, hoping he will fold his sets. Not sure if the average 2NL nit would fold a lower set there, but after seeing what he had I think my initial assumption of he is a nit is wrong.

Didn't finish the goal set in July, because I didn't have the mood to play on the last 2 days.
July results:

Today I took a shot at 10NL. I played 4 tables and lost 1.5 BIs over 400 hands. I think I'll continue playing 10NL and set the limit at $200, so if I fall below $200, I'm going back to 5NL. I'll do shots again if I have 25BIs available for the next stake.
Didn't think of goals for this month, just hope I can drop down to 5NL if I fall below $200.

Didn't play much in last couple of weeks, so I'm dropping back down to 5NL. After Pokerstars changed the table cap to 4 tables, I'm currently considering playing 4 5NL + 1 5NLz or 2-3 5NLz tables.
I'm also starting my second round of watching Run It Once's From the Ground Up course. Last time I watched it like a TV show, this time I'm going to take notes for every lesson. Currently finished lessons 1-4. However, my note-taking process is mostly just copying down what Pete put on the slides. Don't really know what else to add in my notes.
Yesterday had a good session with 2 5NLz tables. Today's session was about average.

Hand 1
Normally would just bet 2/3-1 pot on the river, but I think V is willing to call with any pocket pair, so I went all-in.

Back to burning my bankroll in 5NLz (same as in last December), but this time I'm going to log it on 2+2. I'm setting my stop point at $200, so I'm about 3 BIs away, which is easily achievable in one more session.
Bankroll: $217.93
Today's session:

I feel like when I'm playing 2NL, 2NLz and 5NL I'm trying to win money from other players, but when I'm playing 5NLz, I'm trying to not tilt from the next cooler or trying to not lose my stack.

Hand 1
When I'm about to call the all-in, I say to myself "He can only have JJ here", since 88 should be a preflop fold, any weaker Ax shouldn't be going all-in, but I still made the call.

For the studying part, still re-watching From The Ground Up and taking notes. I started using a 33% pot C-bet on dry flops with a wide C-bet range and 66% for wet flops (previously was mostly 50% polarized for all flops, except 66% for wet flops). Didn't notice much difference yet.

I may also record a session of me playing 3 5NLz tables, my possibly final session before moving back to 5NL.

Had a bad session yesterday 3 tabling 5NLz, losing 4.5 BIs. I think one of my biggest postflop leaks is to raise other's bet all-in with a medium strength (or hand (or a hand with good absolute strength but poor relative strength) and get called by better hands. There were 5-6 hands like that yesterday. If I just called all of them instead of raised, I could have at least halved my losses. I wanted to make this update yesterday, but I was pretty tilted and the post became really salty, so I deleted it. Now I am calmer and think most of the money lost were my mistakes.

Bankroll: $205.88

Hand 1
River should just be a call, since if I raise, Villain will call all boats and straight flush, not really going to call with trips and straights.

This all-in is bad, I'm only getting called by worse Ax, Villain also has less flush draws to call since I have 2 hearts. When I was playing I thought I have trip Aces and a nut flush draw, so it would be fine to go all-in. Villain also raised twice so he probably has a very good hand here.

Hand 5
Don't know if I can avoid this. At that point I think my all-in can get value from worse Ax, but Villain would bet Ax on the turn, so he's either slowplaying or has a pocket pair or flush draw. When I bet the river, all his flush draw and pocket pairs (except 99, 22) will fold, and 99, 22 will call, so I'm basically relying on him slowplaying his Ax to win his stack.

This one is also a bit weird, V is going to raise with all sets, slowplayed overpairs and rarely flush draws (I also block a flush draw), my all-in is going to get called by sets, overpairs, and flush draws are going to fold. Only hand that looks to be misplayed was the A7hh hand. I´m not trying to stack off with weak kicker and we got position and equity for flush and boat on the river (little do we know we are drawing to a chop!).

You gotta know when to build a big pot and when it´s best to try and get to SD for the cheap cheap.

Rest of hands look fine just coolers imo. Nice call with QJ I was thinking fold but table reads come in handy.

Keep pushing bro best of luck.

Got very tilted yesterday, my bankroll dropped to around $135 after another $30 losing session in 5NLz. I just don't understand why I can't beat this stake, while my winrate in 2NL, 2NLz and 5NL are all around +3-4BB/100, my 5NLz is a horrible -7BB/100 over 66k hands. I'm also running bad, my all-in adjusted winrate is -4.78BB/100, not sure what the chance of running 3BB/100 below average over 66k hands is.
I also played a tilt 25NLz 1-table session yesterday, lost around $7, which brings to my current bankroll, $127.93, a similar bankroll after December 2018.
The main reason I started playing 5NLz despite not reaching $300 is because Pokerstars changed the regular table cap to 4 tables, then I started playing 5NLz for more volume (couldn't play 9-10 5NL tables anymore), I start losing and I started playing even more 5NLz tables to try to win back the money, then (may be a bit exaggerating) 90% session ends with a 1-3 BI loss, 5% is a 0-2 BI win and 5% is a 5-7 BI loss.

It's like there are 2 different people playing when it's 2NL 2NLz 5NL and when it's 5NLz. Here are the graphs, first one is all time 2NL+2NLz+5NL and second one is all time 5NLz.

It could also be a mental game problem. I don't feel confident at all when starting up 5NLz tables. When I start a 2NL2NLz5NL session, I'm thinking "I am ready to win some money from these fish/weak regs!", but when I start a 5NLz session, I'm thinking "How many sets are my opponents going to get while I have top pair/2 pair? How many BIs am I going to lose today?"

For now I'm going to take a break, and then play regular tables, probably 5NL , but it's going to be soooooo slow.

Hand 6
This hand pretty much started my tilt. Maybe I haven't seen enough strategies, but this is the first time I've seen 55 3-bet CO vs HJ and call a 4-bet. Maybe V knows if his set hits, the implied odds will be huge, since he's getting my whole stack if I have overpair and I'm going to be tilted the rest of the session.

Last hand of the session, if I'm more calm I may have founded a fold, V may be going all-in with a flush draw, but that's is more likely to happen in mid stakes. In micro stakes the majority of the time is 5x or full house.

After thinking and reflecting my 2-year poker career, I'm going to officially change from a regular to a recreational player. I am going to graduate soon, and I need to keep up my average in order to have a chance to get into graduate school. Also I need to start preparing to look for jobs (I'm from a tech field, so need to brush up my programming skills, algorithms and data structures). For poker, I'm going to leave it as a Friday night or weekend chill event, instead of playing and studying 1-5 hours every day. I think I can make more of a career in what I'm studying and interning in the past 3 years. Maybe I'm too stupid to find out this so late, but after still being in 5NL in 2 years and only $50-70 above my starting bankroll 2 years ago, I realized poker isn't a career for me.

Also I think for any player to actually fully focus on poker, they should at least be running above EV, because if I'm running below EV, I have to put in the extra effort, just to earn the same money as another reg that is putting it the average effort or even less effort. After 319k hands, my currency won is -$36.19 while my currency all-in adjusted is +$98.28.

For this week, played some 10NL regular tables, lost 1.5 BIs, which brings my bankroll to $114.46.

Since I'm a recreational player now, I am open to more choices other than 2NL and 5NL. I am planning to attend the WCOOP main event that has a $55 BI, and continue playing some 5NL and 10NL regular cash games. This may be the first and last main event I can join without any barriers, since next year I could be at a country where Pokerstars is banned, or I have to work on the following Monday and Tuesday (thinking optimistically here), and who knows what will happen 2+ years later. Will see how the main event goes. (Actually I don't understand how people play 2 day events while having a non-poker full time job. Do they just take a sick day every time they get to day 2?)

I believe every thread should have an ending by the OP, so the readers will know and not expect any more posts, so I'm still going to continue posting here as long as I'm still playing online poker, except one of the following happens:
- 2019 ends
- My bankroll on Pokerstars goes to $0
- Thread gets locked
Will update soon...
