Thanks man.

All true, I would not like to rely on poker for my income these days. I would like it to supplement the fuel for my Porsche though

Edit: I have not got a Porsche (yet)...

Ola amigos!

Bit of a crazy week so just going to give poker update and catch up later with Self Improvement and Training etc...

Poker

Results (Week)

Profit = +$71 (includes $10 RB)
Hands played = 5870

Graph (Week)

Summary

So I got my "profit at 6max" up to +$200 on Wednesday night meaning that last night I could take my third shot at NL25 Zoom! I ran good at NL10 Zoom for 24k hands!

Just played 1000ish hands last night at NL25 Zoom and was card dead for ages before getting in on the action! Ended up slightly up thanks to bonkers fish (see hands below).

Looked like there were more blinds available for stealing and people might be able to fold more in general than at NL10 Zoom but way too early to make assumptions.

Commented on 39 hands last 4 days, getting back into forum action!

Cannot wait to play tonight, hopefully fish will donate me some more BB's!

Have a good weekend amigos.

It is time to up the game again! Been in "relaxed" mode wrt poker for 5 or 6 months now and am going to give it one more big push to see if I can get good otherwise I am going to basically quit... (more below)

Results (week)

Profit/loss = -$57 (includes $10 RB)
Hands played = 9297

Summary for week

I lost around $20 at NL25 Zoom (so am around break even there this shot). Then I had a session where I wanted to see how many hands I play per hour at Zoom whilst playing 3 tables (reason below) and played badly and ran badly. Fortunately I did it at NL10 Zoom (should have done NL5 Zoom) so only lost $40!

Kinda irrelevant, was more important to see how many hands per hour I get. Turned out to be ~260 hands per table (whilst playing 3). How does that seem to what you guys get???

So....

What Is This "Quit" S**t!?

Well... I have been looking for a 6 max coach for some time now and not had much luck. I cannot blame anyone for not wanting to take me on on my terms, it doesn't look too EV+ I admit.

Anyway, long story short I have found one albeit with some "conditions" and criteria to meet etc.

It is very big thing for me to talk about quitting poker.

As you can see from my length of time and frequency of blogging (actually not so obvious at PS.com though) I really love playing poker and get a hell of a lot out of my time at the tables personally.

However, I work 52.5 hours a week (job), have a young family to spend time with, and want to train hard at Wing Chun. In fact I have a desire to become a Master of Wing Chun and to become an Instructor.

I cannot do all of these things. Or at least not with the dedication they require. Something has to give.

So, I am going to give it around 12 - 16 months at poker.

If after that the money is not rolling in then I will basically quit poker and dedicate my evenings (after kids bedtime) to mastering the art of Wing Chun.

Coaching Criteria

Trial period where I first need to play around 20k hands at NL10 Zoom and get a sample for us to work on. I will get coaching ~ once per week.

Get a 50k hand sample at NL25 where I beat it for 1bb/100 (or more).

From that day 1 year of coaching where I must play 60,000 hands per month and we split profits.

What I Am Going To Do

Up my hours

Sleep less

Self discipline

Make a separate blog every month to track my 60,000 hands progress and post hands/hands/poker stuff only (first one is already going here).

Post in this blog (the one you are reading right now, not the separate one!) weekly my poker results etc and other self improvement stuff.

Work my t1ts off!

Define "Get good" aka "What Is The Target?"

It is hard for me to put an exact figure on this but I would like to be at least 3b/100 winner at NL100 Zoom or somewhere around the $20 to $25 per hour mark.

(I will be more about setting process orientated goals rather than final results ones but you get the idea I hope).

Conclusion

Sadists enjoy (this masochist will!!!)...

Back on it HARD...

Everything is magnificent!!!

See you in 14 months!

Chris.

Good luck on your goals. Also cool that you do Wing Chun. Have you ever done BJJ? I went from Karte to Wing Chun over to BJJ as a kid and BJJ blew my mind. Always planned to one day when I have the time and oportunity to train BJJ again.. If you want to master one martial arts I can only recommend BJJ its by far the most effective one. That being said its definitely not easy to master!

I have a question. What is that rakeback you are posting? How do you get 10$ in cash on pokerstars as rakeback?

Hi there!

Kinda funny as I did Taekwondo (very similar to Karate imo) for ~ 6 years and just moved to Wing Chun. I also would like to do BJJ in the future and my head instructor of Wing Chun already studies BJJ himself so maybe I will get some included see how it goes.

As for rakeback I just cash in some coins (every time I get 1000) and they give me $10 - maybe there is better way to do this?

Thanks a lot for comment and good luck message!

You have put in already a **** load of work to poker and not got very far with it to be honest. Your workethic is great as well as motivation but you simply lack the young brain and some talent which are very needed to be succesfull nowadays. You would be much more succesfull starting some other business imo and keeping poker as a hobby. Or atleast considering moving to live games.

Best of luck and prove me Im wrong. I apprechiate your workethic!

Forgot about BJJ its great I hope I get the chance to study it in the future. At least where I live its hard to find a good trainer. Also it will take 10 years+ to get a black belt and you pretty much a superstar when you get it. I really like the system because in karate for example there are thousands of blackbelts and it means pretty much nothing.

I dont 100% agree with Kiljusieppo. You had fun and made about 5k $ or so. Thats not nothing. But I agree that becoming a highstakes crusher is not going to happen anymore. Bu that requires a one in a million talent and sick work ethic these days.

They are called McDojo's. Kids wearing blackbelts after 2 years. Complete joke. I used to go to one a decade ago because my parents didn't know any better at the time. Luckily quit soon after.

A black belt so young that you had to go easy on him. WHY THE **** IS HE A BLACK BELT THEN??? Pisses me off thinking about it.

Than you for the kind and honest words. "Not very far" was an appreciated understatement! I have been cruising lately. One last push for "decency"! Thanks for GL!

Poker Results - Week

Profit = +$13 (includes $10 rake back)
Hands played = 9884

Graph - Week

Summary
  • Had coaching (which was truly awesome)
  • I burn money (more than your average bear) in the blinds (esp SB)
  • Switched to HM2 (same as coach for ease)
  • Lost time making switch (setting up HUD etc)
  • Will play some reg tables (need to slow down and focus on leaks/make money)
  • Made few bad plays due to less focus due to making switch
  • Played looser and slightly more aggressive (only 20/17/8 though) but not too sure why (probably just lack of discipline)

"Beat NL100 Zoom Or Quit Poker"

Required Result?
  • Be a winning reg at NL100 Zoom (or quit).

When?
  • 500 days to go.

Why?
  • Fund setting up Wing Chun School.
  • Pay for holidays.
  • Love poker/don't want to quit.
  • Could lose job.

How?
  • 20+ hours play per week (be accountable in blog).
  • 5+ hours study per week.
  • Regular coaching.
  • Do exactly as coach says.
  • Work on mindset.

I will set up another blog (on 2+2) where I will count down from 500 days and just bang the hours etc in each day for accountability and any other relevant stuff. Weekly updates still in here.

Let's go (again)...

sure! btw, from your post below, it doesn't seem like this would be the time; but playing without a HUD makes the game more fun for some. you still collect hands for analysis, but use instinct instead of numbers. perhaps after your 500 days, or try it when you want to mess around a little? good luck again!
