Time To Up It And Go Pro...
It is time to up the game!!
As regular followers know, I have worked pretty hard since this thread/blog began. I am talking about a lot of things here of course, my family (maybe I should let my wife decide on that one), my houses, my poker, my job (not so much
) and my whole life. All of these things have progressed immensely during this time and I am really proud of myself and what I have achieved. (In fact the last ten years have been amazing for me as I was pretty well a washed up, drunken bum 10 years ago.)
The underlying theme of it all is that if you work HARD enough at something then you can improve at a rate that can really surprise you!
It is not just working hard of course but also working SMART.
Some things I learned about improving myself:-
- Define success and what it means to you (not as easy as you might think).
- Find out what successful people do and HOW they got successful and try to emulate them.
- Get a mentor(s) in your field and empty them of advice.
- Be realistic. Not just about what you WANT but about where you are right now. (Right now I am doing this... I realise my poker progress is just not good enough if I want to be pro in time to enjoy my kids growing up so I am going to do something about it. Overall I am accepting how it really is.)
- Believe in yourself.
- Surround yourself with people who will help you on your way (and remove the people who hold you back).
- Learn as much as you possibly can about goal setting and habit formation (these are both massive works-in-progress for me at the moment but I am getting better all of the time!)
- Be strong in the down times (these times will define you the most).
- Celebrate your successes however small they seem (very, very important part of habit formation).
Ok, enough about that I am sure there will plenty more of that over the coming months!
So what am I going to do about it!?
Well a couple of weeks ago a good poker friend of mine recommended I apply to a coach to get some help. Then he proceeded to link me to a Coaching For Profits programme application and said it would be perfect for me.
Strange thing is, I applied to this guy for the same thing just under a year ago and was (rightly) rejected. This time though I felt ready and applied.
The more I thought about it the more excited I got about the prospect of not only giving my poker game a massive kick up the backside but also of the possibilities of becoming part of a team that seems so dedicated to poker improvement and general life improvement (like the stuff I mentioned above, I also have ambitions to work as a coach in personal (and poker) improvement).
As the application process progressed I begged and begged this guy to take me on (to the point I was worried about getting rejected just for being a pain in the butt!).
I got in! The moment I heard I was overjoyed. It just felt like all the hard work I have been putting in has paid off for me, like some sort of reward or karma.
This is just the beginning...
So yeah, it all moves on. Stay on board and enjoy the ride because I fully expect to be known as The Money Making Machine before you know what has hit you!!
The programme commences for me Monday September 15th (assuming Coach agrees) so I am preparing (read relaxing) for real blood, sweat and tears.
BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KP.
P.S. I need to say a massive thanks to my wife for supporting me in this and to my new coach for giving me this amazing opportunity in life.
