Hi mate, villain is not MP here. As he is cold caller pre I think way less Kx do you? Obv I could be way off!

Should I bet the turn here and if so why? (My thoughts are "yes, because K does not hit his floats much and I will sometimes bluff this card so can value bet here too").
If you had 3bet a CO opener and CO called, I could see betting this turn. But in this case I could think of some reasons why it might be too thin:
1) you 3bet a non fullstack so the cold-caller will give you more credit
2) villain has to have a stronger range to cold call a 3bet; he hasn't put any money in the pot before calling pre
3) he has a good reason to call AA, KK, AK preflop rather than 4bet, to keep the original opener in the pot

So I c/f turn

Schedule and Short Term Goals Update - 25.03.2014

Schedule 25th March 2014

08.00 - 09.00 = Catch up with group, update schedule.
09.00 - 11.00 = Post hands to blog and Skype groups.
11.00 - 11.30 = Comment on 2 forum hands.
12.30 - 17.00 = Janda study (at work).
20.30 - 22.30 = Session with staker and play.
22.45 - 04.15 = Sleep.
04.20 - 04.50 = Train TKD.
04.50 - 06.40 = At the tables.

Goal 1 - Play 58 hours in March - Played 66.55 hours = 114.7%% of target. Month is 77.4% old. This has been the only goal I could really focus on when I was ill but I never imagined I would have beaten the target already! I will still try to play tonnes obviously but I can focus on some more study too now.

Goal 2 - Post all marked hands to blog and/or Skype group - Not done when ill BUT yesterday I posted 10 hands to Skype and two to staker so back on track

Goal 3 - Comment on all of friends' hands in Skype Group (unless day off) - Not done (just been catching up, no excuse though).

Goal 4 - Comment on two HH's other than on Skype - Not done.

Goal 5 - Study Janda - Not looked at it. Scheduled in for today though. I am convinced the study I have done so far has helped me quite a lot so will push on with this.

Goal 6 - Post weekly review to group (also seems to involve motivating others ) - Posted mine last night (was I the only one!?) Shame my group has too many people lacking my desire and dedication!

Goal 7 - Watch at least 10 mins of poker video and use as part of warm up - Yes, I have been doing this as warm up most times I play.

-----------------------

4 x
3 x

Quite happy with this. Hours goal is complete and no reason to not be 100% focussed on other goals now.
-----------------------

Session

To update in short (not sure how much of this I even already posted when I was sick but gotta to push on....) I am now playing NL50 (staked remember) and have been getting my bottom spanked quite badly (down around 11 buy ins over small sample)! I feel I have run terribly at showdown
(maybe in EV too but don't think so) and looked at a load of hands yesterday to see and got tonnes where I think I ran bad.

I am not going to post them in here unless someone says "Post them and I will take a look at them" as I hate looking at bad beat stories as I am sure you all do!!

Staker seems happy for me to carry on at NL50 but we are having a session this evening and will be going through some bigger pots in the replayer.

Onwards.......

GL KP! Really appreciate the upbeat, positive attitude even when results aren't what you'd like.

Also would be interested in hearing what kind of adjustments, etc. come out of the session with your staker. Not sure if you're willing or able to talk about that, but I'd be interested if possible. Thanks and gl!

the J8dd is tricky but I don't necessarily think we get paid anywhere near close to 100% of the time if we take that line and obviously we aren't drawing to the nuts.

meh, just betting them all

yeah i think you can get away with betting it. J makes a lot of 2p as well as being able to rip a spade turn

Thanks for kind words!!

Mental game is my strong point I guess (including dedication). Of course it is easier to stay positive when staked but I am fully confident that so long as i keep working and learning like i do that we will turn it around into big winnings in the long run. It seems that staker feels exactly the same.

Wrt to adjustments so far I have seen my 3bet stat go up a lot (well it had to it was so low!) and getting better at that all of the time and so much work still to do. Also I ask about cbetting tonnes so got to get better at that as time moves on. I will keep you posted!

Yeah I misread. Mp folded out and b called. B is def much wider. I guess you could make a case of checking to let him rep the king right? Betting or check calling seem reasonable. Betting seems much better since several draws showed up on the turn.

Edit: I also like Reemix's ideas on it. So much to learn

Fantastic session with staker. Went through 12 or so of biggest pots at NL50 so far. I think almost all of them were "ok" and just a couple of points to consider where I missplayed. This was good for my confidence to see I did not totally get it wrong but also we picked up a few things to improve on. I have been recording the sessions so can go back through which is really important (to embed the new knowledge).
We staying at NL50 for now, glad staker saw me get coolered a lot!!

I think I won my first flip at NL50!!! (Actually was 63% favourite hand v hand in 4b pot but was sure he would hit!!) Other than that not much going my way, couple of 4b bluffs got jammed on and cbets raised and when you play low volume it can look bad. Long term....

#315 looks like either nut flush draw or two pair not wanting to get drawn out on. I know KJs could be in his flatting range, but do you think K8s and J8s are? I doubt he would play 910 or Ak like that. Seems like a easy fold to me because you will be playing for stacks on turn.

Schedule and Short Term Goals Update - 31.03.2014

Schedule 31st March 2014

08.00 - 20.00 = It is end of year at work . Means loads of paperwork and stock taking so will possibly be stuck here late tonight and not get much done pokerwise all day.
Will update schedule/goals not and try to post my hands from the weekend as the day goes on.
If, by chance, we get finished early enough there may be some play/study tonight but I am not counting on it.

Goal 1 - Play 58 hours in March - Played 71.6 hours = 123.4% of target. Goal complete!

Goal 2 - Post all marked hands to blog and/or Skype group - Done.

Goal 3 - Comment on all of friends' hands in Skype Group (unless day off) - Few to do actually, will attempt to fit in today.

Goal 4 - Comment on two HH's other than on Skype - Done on forum

Goal 5 - Study Janda - Not done and not scheduled, nor today!

Goal 6 - Post weekly review to group (also seems to involve motivating others ) - Posted! I think Bill has posted one for this week...

Not much play over the weekend as spent lots of time with family (we had Mother's Day in UK). I did spend around 3 hours on study though mostly going through video's of coaching sessions. Got a few questions for staker from that.

Ran pretty bad, flopped full house and got it in versus trips no kicker and he hit quads and also ran top two into fish rivered straight (will post below just to check I played ok please).
Folded 2nd nut flush on the river in a 3 bet pot much to the dismay of my poker group! It is good I posted this and got seriously flamed as I learned a lot here.
Other than that I think/feel I played well.

BB is one tabling, not hidden from search and this donk confirms probable fish. I call because I have the nuts and am happy to see the turn.

SB checks, BB bets $2.50, CO calls $2.50, Hero raises to $15.75, fold, BB calls $13.25, fold
Turn makes the board wet and as he is a fish I think its fine to set up the river shove by raising here.

River: ($54.00, 2 players) 9
BB bets $29.25 and is all-in, Hero calls $29.25 and is all-in
Because of his flop donk I am more concerned about sets here than flushes or straights and as he can have two pair and spazz I am happy(ish) to call.

Goal 3 - Comment on all of friends' hands in Skype Group (unless day off) - I doubt I missed many here.

Goal 4 - Comment on two HH's other than on Skype - Did post on lots of hands on forum but will on ly give 50% for this goal.

Goal 5 - Study Janda - Missed out on this quite a lot. When I was ill this was something I just did not do. It seems to be the goal that I dropped first. I have learned tonnes from this book so far and will be continuing though even if it is at this same slow pace.

Goal 6 - Post weekly review to group (also seems to involve motivating others ) - All done but I think the group are losing their mojo as a unit with this, I will chat to them asap to see where they want to go with it.

Goal 7 - Watch at least 10 mins of poker video and use as part of warm up - Done! I have watched a lot of poker video this month - good for improvement and to warm up too.

Summary

Not too difficult to see what is NL25 and what is NL50!! Have run really bad at NL50 and most of this will not show up in EV differences. Spent time with staker going through hands and not much could be done differently.
The aggressive move up has really helped me to refocus my study. I thought I was doing loads before but it just shows how much extra you can find if you really put your mind to it.
Hopefully results will turn around but I still feel I am doing exactly the right things with regard to improving and working on my game. Of course I am not saying I should be beating NL50 yet but I do believe it is well within reach soon (variance permitting!).
Bring it on!!

Hey man, awesome thread! I find it really helpful and interesting. I admire your attitude, I am a 2nl player that took some failed shots at 5nl which really made me feel aweful but I am NOT going to give up.

Quick question, how do you define being a poker pro? Is it just being able to make a decent living out of it or playing high stakes?

Good luck, I've subbed to this threat.
