Thank you pman!

Bust hand: 400/800/800

Folds to CO (covers) who opens to 1600, folds to me in the BB, I look down at AT and shove 124,000. CO snap calls with AJo and we can’t suck out.

Pretty standard, sucks to run into a top 8% hand in that spot, but it just wasn’t my time. On to the next one!

Seems fine, albeit I am far from pro. GG onto the next one

Was there a typo somewhere in the info? Because 3b jamming 155bb with ATs is probably bad at any stage of the tournament. CO call is even worse.

GG on the cash though.

I do wish I would’ve taken a second to evaluate (I snap shoved), so it did feel a bit lazy in that regard, but I’m not sure I come up with any other option, tbh.

At the point of the tourney where the pay jumps are negligible there’s not much incentive to play it safe. Even if he folds hands like KJ/QJ or even worse hands that have equity, it’s a pretty good result to just chip up from 15->20bb without having to win at SD. Plus ATs just has a ton of equity against a standard CO open range. It’s pretty much printing as a re-shove.

Yes my bad maybe that’s the confusion. Blinds are 4000/8000. Open was 16K.

Oh god imagine me just ripping it for 150 bigs w/ AT, especially that late into the tourney LOL

I heard this quote today that “Elite performers take mistakes seriously, but not personally.”

I really like that, because I feel like you have two options. You can look at your mistakes as a normal occurrence that happens to everyone and an opportunity to get better. Or you can view your mistakes as evidence that you’re not good enough and feed your self doubt. You obviously can’t ignore your mistakes, but you definitely can’t dwell on them and let them shake your confidence either.

This is something that I’ve sort of unintentionally been working on lately. I used to let one mistake consume me and tell myself how I’ll never sustain profit if I play like that. I would take every mistake as a personal failure. Lately I’ve just been writing it down with the intention of addressing it after the session. Just move on and play well. Taking it seriously but not personally.

Just thought I’d throw this out there today for anyone else who might need to hear it. ✌🏻

1/3 NL is probably the most frustrating game that exists

Everyone is terrible and if you’re decent at poker and don’t tilt you should win long term, but the action is incredibly slow, there’s usually only 1-2 players that actually want to put money in the pot and the rest of the seats are filled with people who want to fold and pass the time. And people constantly do things that make no sense so if your trying to use hand reading skills and whatnot you almost get in your own way. Example:

5 way limped pot, I’m in the SB with T7
($15) 754
I lead $10, BB calls, everyone else folds
($35) T
I lead $25, BB calls
($85) 8
I check, Bb bets $45

I look at my cards off the table where people can see them and I say “well I can’t beat anything now” and I fold. He shows me K7o. Pretty sure he had no idea what he was trying to accomplish with that River bet, but he accidentally did the right thing. That kind of shyt frustrates me way more than it should, but I can also identify that I just don’t enjoy playing 1/3, so I basically never play it anymore unless I’m waiting for 2/5 or PLO. And to be completely honest with myself, I prob don’t play the best because I get very bored with the style that it takes to beat that game.

End rant about low stakes live NL, but I did get a 1/3/6 PLO seat afterwards and got unstuck and then some. Really wish PLO and 2/5 ran more regularly instead of evenings/weekends.

End of August Update

So we have a little over 97K to go. So far I’ve paid $323 in interest on the loan for those that are keeping count. Slow, but steady. I expect to keep climbing and winning consistently, but would like to get more volume. As I alluded to in previous posts, I hate playing 1/3 and bigger games really only run on the weekends in my area so I’m kind of restricted in that sense.

Hired a PLO coach for a handful of sessions. He’s an Ex-RIO pro who’s a good friend of mine. He basically taught me how to beat NL back in the day for free. I feel pretty comfortable in PLO already but I’m expecting to take my game up a level.

Also gonna keep firing some tourneys here and there. As I’ve said before I’m not interested in playing it safe, I’m trying to turn a little into a lot. So I’m basically looking to fire a couple of tourneys a month with a legit GTD.

Here’s to a hot September, LFG.

Interesting spot within 10 minutes of sitting down. Table is 7 handed.

It’s my straddle and a middle aged recreational reg who I’ve seen play some 10/25 opens to $35 in the LJ, young Asian kid in the HJ makes it $105 and it folds to me in the straddle with just under $600 back and I look down at JJ

Didn’t really love any of my options here. I’m never folding, didn’t love any plan for navigating the flop if I call and likely go 3 ways OOP with a SPR under 2, and I felt like a cold 4b doesn’t get called by worse very often.

After more thought I think I might actually like calling the best and then just looking to gii on safe flops, but I think I was still a little bit in tourney mode and decided on the more aggressive option and made it $325, LJ folded and the HJ sigh shoved. This is probably a range that has me smashed, but I put in my last $250 or so.

HJ had AK and we got out-ran.

I think the trickiest part here is my stack size. If I’m a little bit shorter I can just shove pre fairly profitably and if I’m deeper I can 4b/fold, but it just didn’t feel like there was a good option with my stack.
60bb eff pre your JJ should be a pure 4b shove against young Asian kid 3b range. If you were a bit deeper say 100bb+ it would be a pure fold. Cold calling 3bets in the sb is rarely ever a good option esp shortstacked. Another good rule of thumb is that we probably never want to put in a 4bet for anymore than 33% of our stack. If we 4bet to half of our stack were priced into calling off a jam no matter what and our fold equity is not as high. When we 4b shove JJ and we get KQs AQo to fold we are profiting quite well because those hands have almost 50% equity vs our hand.

My original thought on the sizing is that I chose the size that I would’ve chose with AA/KK, but upon more reflection when people overbet 4b shove a lot of times it gets viewed as AK looking for a fold.

I actually think all in would get folds from like AQ/KQ and actually might find some calls from like TT-88 who put us on AK.
