Dude, you obv have a grasp on some basic poker knowledge. Why don't you give real money poker a shot? I bet your skills could kill the NL2-NL10 crowd. Don't be scared man. You can make more money giving the micros a shot.

I actually would like to see this comparison, but my gut feeling says (with all the respect to OP's game) that RMG are way stronger at these levels than the FMG's.

I believe this is the case too as people can't compute play money as "real" money. As soon as real money is involved people will be a little more serious.

Re: Turning 1000 Play Money into $400 (Again)

It always depends on who you´re playing. I´ve played quite a bit of "high stakes" play money games on Pokerstars (1,8m => 80m => busto). Some people play so bad it´s insane (even assuming 1m = roughly $1,3 according to Pokerstars rates) and some guys are the biggest nits on planet earth. Just one example, I have a hard time remembering a single time where a guy from Spain bet anything less than the mortal nuts.

@OP: How the f do you manage to play 5000 hands per day? Pokerstars limits your play to 5 tables at a time. Given how slow those games tend to be, it would take 10 hours plus to get so many hands in. I guess FTP is different?

I totally would if I could - you have no idea. But I live in the US and, while I'm only 20 minutes away from Canada, I don't have the money to travel or stay there at the moment.

Doesn't mean I can't or won't try

I play on FTP 12 tables at a time and I'd probably never even do this thread if were at pokerstars because 5 tables is so boring and stars just added their own option to buy chips there and so selling chips wouldn't be too profitable.

I've been playing 10k/20k for the last two days but maybe you only play higher. I'm very familiar with the player pool at the 25k/50k games as I rail there just to see who's playing and it's mostly always the same people. So I'd probably already know who you are.

As for a thread update I'm currently at 47.3m and, like I said, have started playing 10k/20k in my 12 tables of 1k/2k+. Today, during a session, I went from 46m to 37m and got really worried/tilted that I'd have to move back down but then towards the end made it back to 47m to save the day and so I believe I'm going to be sticking around . Yesterday I booked my biggest win far having won 9.6m (about $40) and so pretty happy about that. Lets hope things keep turning good. And thanks for all the support, guys!

Re: Turning 1000 Play Money into $400 (Again)

Thought I should make aware that this thread is still alive. My bankroll is at 79m and I'm playing stakes up to 10k/20k regularly. However even when I do get to 100m ($400) I'm not going to sell them just yet because I want to wait and keep going so I can play 25k/50k comfortably. I started this thread a month ago and for the month of November my poker tracker shows I've won 78m. Given I've already sold 40m and that my bankroll now is at 79m I think I can officially say I am above in making $400 from just 1000 play money

Some questions:

What kind of bb/100 are we talking at the 10k/20k tables? And how many tables were you usually able to play simultaneously (this is less a question about your ability to multitable and more a question about how many tables are generally running)? Moreover, about how much actual dollars do you estimate you were pulling in hourly?

No rake on the Full Tilt play money games (different story for Pokerstars).

Nice job Gary, way to get your goal. Great idea of keeping those chips for a nice br for those stakes. Do you have a lifetime graph to post?

Maybe... I've tried and played patiently but seems like 80 percent of the time. its guys going in with junks that scoop the pot. Guess I'll play even more patiently and try to make 10 mil instead of OP's 100mil in a month

At the moment I'm running at 8.00 BB/100 lifetime at 10k/20k over 32k hands and recently I just went on a 15-bi downswing and got back to even and I think that was because I was playing above my bankroll. Prior to that, though, when I was playing 10k/20k a few months, I was running at like 13.50 BB/100 over 24k hands. The tables run from like 3-6 usually and the peak hours I find are around 12-5pm pacific time. This month I'm at about $7.50 an hour and the month before I think it was $2.50.

At the moment my computer is being stupid (or PT) and so I'll post a graph later.

As for recent results, I haven't been playing very much as it is finals week but in the first week of december I'm so far up 37m ($150) which is a lot for me considering how little volume I'm putting in compared to how much I usually put in.

My bankroll currently sits at 106.8m and I'm playing in the 25k/50k no-ante games when running and for the 25k/50k 10k ante games, that usually have a lot of tables running, I'm waiting till I have 220m to sit and then move back down at 200m because I think those games can be very volatile and I don't know if I'm ready for them yet.

I've also come up with something cool:

part-time job: 20 hours a week
minimum wage: $10/hour
part-time job weekly paycheck: $200

So if I play seven days a week, all I would need to win is around 7m a day to be equivalent to a part time job (hourly aside) which I think is doable once I hit the 25k/50k games.

Re: Turning 1000 Play Money into $400 (Again)

Still going strong. Bankroll is at 137m. I've withdrawn a lot though since my last post and I've definitely passed over the $400 since starting this challenge, which is awesome. For the last four months at play money here are my results (consider $4/m is the average):

september: $44.25 over 33,168 hands
october: $121.32 over 81,582 hands
november: $315.40 over 107,357 hands
december: $378.83 over 45,766 hands

Pretty awesome one of my lowest months of volume is higher than both my biggest volume months. Just goes to show how much moving up in stakes makes a difference. I'm not playing the 25k/50k 10k ante games yet as I haven't got to 200m yet but I am playing at the 25k/50k regular games but usually only one is ever running and not very often. Just been grinding 1k/2k, 3k/6k, and 10k/20k mostly these past two months.

Considering I don't even need this money, because I'm going to school and living off financial aid mostly, it's pretty cool to be making some decent money at a game I would of been playing even if I couldn't sell these play chips (going 8-9 years I think w/o having played real money yet )
