Giving Back

Broke a decent winning streak with some super below average play. Played one or two fold pre spots that got us in some really bad spots.

Not all sessions are pretty but these two hands feel bad.

4 limps, we overlimp J 9 . Sb, bb come along and we go to a flop of:

J 7 4

Sb x, bb 10,
mp, HJ, call
We call

Turn (75) 9
bb 15, mp 55, fold
We call, bb call

River (240) 3
bb x, mp 80, we call and lose to T8o

MP younger asian player raises HJ 15, we call A 9 BTN, blinds call.

Flop (60) 2 2 9

x/x orig raiser 55
we call, blinds fold

Turn (170) T

Raiser 100
We call

River (370) 5

raiser 150
We call, lose to JJ

Back at it tomorrow.

New Games & New Casino?

New Games:

with a super nit promo going on this week at Mohegan, we skipped the 2/5 to get in on the weekly 7.5/15 horse. Played 9 hours for a profit of $92. I really expected it to be similarly as big as a 2/5 NL, but seemed more like a 1/3 to me. @everyone what are your thoughts?

There were a few competent players in all games(really they just played tight) and a few people giving it away. Could have won more but my rust was pretty serious. Ended up getting into more of a groove and really thinking about spots more deeper into the session, and really had a good time.

I think my biggest mistake was stealing too much. I opened LP super wide in ALL games

(For example) like T8 with A showing in razz into like a 7 & 3, same borderlinetype hands in Stud/HL. Not sure how correct/ how light to open in those games.

The big win of the session came at a time where we were stuck about ~200 and we pick up A 5 6 . One limp, we complete to 7.5. go 4 way to 4th street.

We call 7.5 after we scoop the 8
fold, one call

5th st we pick up the beautiful 7
V1 bets 15 showing QT6
V2 calls 15 showing K92
We raise 30
Call call

6th st we get the 3 and we’re now freerolling low with a chance to scoop high
x/x we 15 call call

7th we make straight
x/x we 15 call call again

Played a fun hand in stud when I bet all streets with AK showing 5678 7th street J
guy ends up calling all streets, misses FD and catches pair of 10s on 7th, calls and wins

New Casino:

Encore Boston is opening on Sunday. We’ll be headed there next weekend. Super excited.

Also Mohegan sun is raising their 2/5 max to 800 starting Monday, which I’m quite excited about. Best believe we’ll be there.

7.5/15 is a really small game, def more like a 1/2-1/3.....20/40ish is more comparable to 2/5.

Did mohegan lower their 2/5 max for awhile? It def used to be 800 a few years ago.

Yeah, they changed it to 500 in late 2015/early 2016. Monday it’s back.

Yeah, probably won’t want to play that game again due to that, but out of curiosity what’s an attainable winrate in a game like that - $10/hr? lol

I can’t say from experience as I won’t play games that low but my best educated guess is that the players are likely awful but the rake is prob brutal and you could maybe squeeze out around $20/hr. So it’s not a complete waste of time if you want to practice but if your goal is to make money 2/5 will obv be much more worthwhile on avg. mixed games are way more fun and imo way softer in general though so it could be worth the practice if you think you’d play bigger games that hopefully end up going in Boston.

Hasn't looked like too many mixed games up there so far, but we'll see :'( yeah - it was def more for a good time because if I'm even the best player at the table (doubtful) that ceiling is tiny lol. Seemed like great practice and I was happy to break up the monotonous grind a bit.

Play will be to play some PLO up there this weekend.

should be massive. They got up to almost 80 tables on the grand opening day Sunday.

Plan is to play some PLO but we'll see.

Played a solid 7 hour session yesterday.

I was happy with my play for the most part, but I was quickly stuck a buyin (now 800) so got into the game for 1600 and eventually clawed back to being stuck only a few hundred.

Made one sad (results oriented) fold that could have made us some $$.

UTG limp, tight reg opens to 20 UTG +1, we flat JJ SB (mistake 1). UTG jams 200, UTG +1 flats with 500 behind, we fold.

had AA twice (lost to flopped quads once, and took it down pre once)
KK 4 times (took it down pre once, made a straight once, A on flop twice)
QQ 4 times (won once, K on flop twice, A on flop once)

hand distribution was THERE! but couldn't win a lot of hands today. Back at it wed or thurs, for a session before hitting up encore this weekend.

gl all!

Encore Boston Harbor

There is much to be said about the new venue up in the suburbs of Boston. If you’ve ever been to the Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas this place will have a very similar appearance/feel. Left my place around 8:00 on Saturday, and ended up arriving close to 10:45. Walked around a bit and finally got seated around 12:15.

Played 5 hours of 2/5 no limit with the plan to wait for 2/2/5 PLO to open. Ended up getting into some good games and didn’t leave for awhile.

Everything was going well until a 2 orbit stretch where we 3bet 4 hands and lost all 4 (all a giant the same guy - who was opening way too wide and punished us of course)

AKs < TT on 8 high board
AT < T9s on J8572
AJ < something on Q63ss

some other hand I don’t remember.

We switch over to the PLO being stuck about 100bb in holdem, and proceed to see 4 allin pots our first orbit. This should be fun.

We pick up A A T 3 and make it 70 to go over a HJ open to 15, and a BTN call. They both call and we see a flop of Q 6 2

We have 430 behind and pot flop. HJ calls, BTN folds.

We GII On the 9 turn and lose to riveted two pair on 5 to Q538 double suited.

Now stuck pretty big, we begin to feel the pressure when we pick up A : spade: A xx. We make it 25 over two callers and head 5 way to a flop of A 6 5. Checks to us, we pot and get one caller.

The turn is the T and we jam his final 300. We get the tank call, fill up OTR and win.

Final hand comes against a super rec who is stuck 3k playing/bluffing/betting/calling every hand, looking for any excuse to get $$ in the pot.

We raise bad Queens to 15 from MP, and go 4 way to a flop of Q 6 4.

Whale leads for 40, (were 1k eff with him) and folds to us, and only we call.

Turn is the 6. He checks and we bet small, 60 because he can have so many bad hands that we want him to continue with. He calls and leads the A river. We pot to 490, and he tank calls with a bad flush. We end up getting out of a 4 figure hole to book a tiny win.

June hours: 80
Profit just under 200bb

Something to play for

I can’t believe it’s been over 6 months since my last update. A ton has happened, and there’s so much I want to share. I’ll try to take it piece by piece.

Life

My now fiancée (still feels weird to say that!) and I got engaged in August of last year. We “celebrated” by deciding to sell our apartment, and buy a single family home a little further north. It’s a small cute house but perfect for the two of us.

It probably sounds a little corny, but in a new this has given me a new “something” to play for. Basically just another motivator to put in the study hours, and to focus on the felt.

Travel

Have two trips I’m excited for in 2020, one poker, and one not so much for poker (although the itch to play may take over!)

In April I’ll be heading to Nevada! Will be in Las Vegas for the 5th(6th?) time! I’ll be in Vegas from April 1-3, and then will be heading up to Reno from April 3-6 to experience run it up Reno. I’ve always been a huge fanboy of Somerville, and to se me what he is trying to do with the RIU series, such as promoting fun, mixed games, and an overall enjoyable atmosphere is what it’s all about for me. Will probably play one tournament and then stick to cash. If time allows, will rent a car and drive up to Tahoe for a day!

Europe
Euro 2020 is happening this year, and I’m lucky enough to be able to go see my country, Poland play. Will be heading to the June 15th match in Dublin, Ireland. Will be in England for a few days, and Amsterdam for a few days as well. Will try and stop to play poker one time in Europe. Any European live poker gurus please send me your recommendations!

Poker
I’ve still been playing! In 2019 I was only able to log 300 hours, with a modest win rate of 2bb/hr. Better than nothing! Still happy to have been able to travel and play in a bunch of new, fun places

Goals for 2020
The traveling to play poker will definitely be a little down this year. The last 2-3 years I’ve been able to hit 10 new venues per year. This year I’d like to play 500
Hours of live poker, and visit 5 new venues. Should be a good time. I’ll leave you guys with some of the best beers around

Congrats on the engagement! Reno was definitely popping during the RIU series last fall, so that should be fun. Lake Tahoe is certainly worth checking out too. Euro trip itinerary sounds legit as well. GL with the 500 hr goal.

Appreciate it man! Obv haven’t been on the forums in awhile but excited to see what you’ve been up to. You planning on heading up to Reno in April? I’m really just hoping to play some mixed games

Not planning on going for this RIU series as of right now. Poker action in the region is pretty sparse when no events are going on, so going during RIU is ideal time to visit. I'll probably be around LV if you wanna say what's up when you're out here.

Hopping back in

Felt soooooo good to get back in there. Felt super rusty, but having not played in a long time actually helped me be really calm, and helped avoid tilt after going deep in the red early on... ended up winning a whopping $30

First hand:
V is a losing reg who plays a good amount, and I’ve played with him for 50-100 hours easily. He plays about 50/10

Folds to v OTB who opens to 15.
SB call
Hero makes it 70 in the BB with J J .
V calls, SB folds

Flop: (150) 7 4 3

Hero 55
V call

Turn (260) 9

Hero 145
V call

River: 500 T

Hero check
V 360
Hero?

Second Hand:
Admittedly a little rusty in this spot OTT...

one limp to hero in HJ with 8 7
Hero 25
Blinds call (both bad regs leaning towards stationy)
Limper folds

Flop (75) K 8 3
check,check
Hero 45
Call, call

Turn (210) 6
check check to hero.... I think normally heads up we have the easiest double barrel ever, but two calls behind the flop cbet seems like it may be bad to keep going? Would love advice

Hero checks. Will get to river later...

h1 is a pretty tough spot. If he’s straightforward we should probably just xf since he really can’t be betting worse for value, I wouldn’t expect someone to turn a pair into a bluff there ever, and he can’t really have air unless he’s getting cute across multiple streets.

Not gonna lie in real time I’d have a tough time folding though lol

h2 I don’t really like the flop cbet and definitely don’t like the sizing with this hand nor with our range on this board. AP when they both call and especially since they are both sticky I just x back and hope to realize my equity.

Having played online for the last two years, hand 1 seems like the quickest power snap of all time, but I think what dizzy said is also very true and I am completely out of touch with the live meta. I still see idiots online turn pairs into a bluff here all the time and then ask myself if they have any clue whether they're value betting or bluffing...

Hand two id bet flop bit smaller or xb if they have 99-TT pre and xb turn as well.

Channel your inner live past! Much appreciated... agree 100% on people showing up with random 1 pairs here, but don’t think he would bet river with 1 pair against my line in a 3 bet pot.

Appreciate it, yeah flop is a bit ambitious in h2

———

Ended up folding H1. Wasn’t really too upset over it but a few mins later v claimed a set. it felt genuine and I never asked him... so sick level of not true?

H2 we check and

River (210) T
both check to us again and we fire 180. SB tank calls, BB folds and we scoop
