Meant to post a link to this when it was going on but forgot. Did a 2 hour podcast earlier this morning with the legend, SOF. Haven't really gotten to talk to him too much since last Vegas trip so was nice to catch up.

Really felt the grind today but managed 5,699 hands. We sit at 64,780 hands with 2 days to go. Gonna push through hard these next two days and then take a well deserved break. Have ran probably top 1% this month, def not gonna take it for granted, still lots to improve on.

Will do normal weekly post after I catch up on some zzz's

Hey, watched the pod, v cool and entertaining. Down to earth. Well down.

Was just wondering, why don't you move to ROW? You would have access to higher stakes and you could cut down on those taxes depending on where you end up living.

80% of your volume being 500nl sounds v meh for someone that can play as high as 5k.

Hey thanks for watching. All good questions.

For personal reasons, both me and my wife really like NJ and have all of our friends + family.

As far as ROW and playing HS, yes ofc there is much more action but my edge would just be much smaller there and I'd have to table select where as here I could play any 6 max table and have an edge.

So yeah v little variance grinding mostly 500 and hopefully running good when the rare hs games go.

The biggest reason to move would be tax as I'm gonna get taxed like 40% this year which is depressing lol.

Ya funny how it came up again.

Good news: Played like 8.5 hours today and got a bunch of short handed hands in. So yeah at about 71.5k hands in leaving a nice tidy 3500 for tomorrow.

Bad news: Had by far the worst day of my career tonight, as the rare 5k game got off but will all regs. Sucks to lose that kind of money but just the nature of the beast....

I am veryyyy much looking forward to a nice little poker break after this month

Good luck today! I listened to the podcast, was enjoyable to learn a bit more about you. I dont remember what account it was on NJ I used to play you with either WSOP (mysteryspot) or Party (iamwinner) but I remember you going from a reg to a real pain in the ass reg like 3-4 years ago, wouldnt even want to mess w you now!

Pretty sure you'd only save NJ income taxes anyways. Which obv NJ has high taxes, but you'd still owe federal income tax even if you moved abroad I believe. Congrats on completing the 75k hands, gl recovering from the rough 5k session.

There could be a large tax benefit for some US citizens spending ~330+ days out of the year overseas.

There always is, you aren’t taxed on the first 100k, unless something has changed in recent years

It's $107,600 for 2020. But only applies to "foreign earned income." Self employment income can count as that so I would think that if one is filing as a professional gambler, then it could count. But it only reduces the income tax owed; not the self-employment taxes owed. I'm not sure how gambling winnings would be counted for it if filed as an amateur.

Hey man thanks! Oh yeah wow def made some big strides. I've made pretty big strides to my game the past year and a half, where if I'm locked in I can compete at a high level

Yeah it's all hypothetical, there's pretty much 0 chance I move outside the states.

I did mention on the pod if I ever got super rich I'd love to battle the HS guys just to compete in that environment even though I'd definitely be losing

Also interesting, going to def have a call w my accountant again to figure out some steps here.

ANYWAY. Prop completed. Ending the month at 75,034 hands. the moment I crossed that threshold, I was pretty much done and closed my tables out. Played a about 5.5 hours today and played a bunch of tables to just get through it.

I was not really in the mood to play w the big loss in my mouth but I got through it and played fairly disciplined and made some correct hero folds to actually book a win! $800

Will do the weekly write up next, and show the graphs where I played about 112-115 hours for the month. I say about because my tracker says 112, but sometimes i only had action on WSOP which is untracked.

Thx guys. Big relief to be done overall. Pretty even split in volume between tracked sites and WSOP which makes sense since much more MS/HS volume there overall. I'd say I averaged about 11 tables overall through my month as games were still really good.

I am a bit burnt out from playing though tbh, not burnt out from poker per se, just playing.

Week 26: June 26-28th

1.) 47.21 hours of Poker Yearly Goal: 856.58/1800

2.) 0 hours of Mental Health Yearly Goal: 12.11/75

3.) 1 hour of Fitness Yearly Goal: 57.38/200

So yeah, I'm going to take a little break from the grind. I'm not sure how long it'll be. My mind says a week, could be sooner could be a bit longer. I'm still going to be coaching quite a bit during this time so I won't be completely lazy

Will do a mid year write up as well and go from there. Will share a few hands in the meantime.

nice job getting the volume in. I think you put H2 twice instead of H3 btw

Is rake really low enough at 5knl that K3o becomes a defend vs a button min open?

Quarter II: April 1st-June 30th

Halfway Mark

After a fantastic start to the year through the first 3 months, I was mentally prepared for a bit of a tick down and maybe some negative variance.

Thankfully, the heat has continued and intensified. I felt for the most part that I've played well but I've run extremely hot in the limited sample I have of HS. That feels very lucky, so definitely grateful there.

The only negative I can take from this is the tourney experiment kind of went out with a whimper. I ran pretty poorly on that front and didn't have a top edge to begin with, from a strict $ perspective it makes no sense to continue this considering my cash hourly.

Full disclosure, I am down about $25k this year in tournies. On a positive, I broke through to the highest stakes offered in the country, I've hit some goals that were at the forefront of my mind when I was 23 and just starting this game. I cannot lie that feels really, really good.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The goal for the second half is to continue to put a consistent effort on the poker front. I've done a fairly solid job about this. I need to put more time getting back in shape and getting my mentals back though. If I can run 1/3rd as good as I did in the first half, I'll finish up the year in a great spot and when the inevitable adversity comes to remember the hot run and work through it.

What's next?

I've taken a fantastic 5 day break from poker, and I feel really refreshed. I have the busiest coaching day I've ever had tomorrow with about 8h of sessions scheduled, but I'm hoping to get back in the mix either Tues or Wed.

I also am going to get some consultation on LASIK this month, I'm sure the surgery will take some time away from the game, but that's ok I'm expecting these next two months to be on the slow side play wise (so no free roll, sorry!), before ramping up again in the last 4 months.
