Just count calories and move everyday of some sort. The internet will recommend some extreme measures that there is no way anyone who isn't super into fitness will follow.

Losing pounds come from the kitchen. Adding definition comes from lifting.

I don't think these measures are extreme at all. I'm averaging around 4 hours of fitness a week so I need to try to replace that as best I can.

I tried one blender exercise which was super tough and then did some HIIT videos with wife. Legs, glutes, core, hips, etc got a much harder workout than usual, although I'm sure my lifts will go down quite a bit whenever this is over.

Week 12:March 16th-March 22nd: **** has hit the fan

1.) 40.5 hours of Poker Yearly Goal: 362.34/1800

2.) 0 hours of Mental Health Yearly Goal: 6.05/75

3.) 1.5 hours of Fitness Yearly Goal: 36.82/200

Have been able to mostly do 15-30 min workouts, theyve been intense although time spent working out has lessened. I did not do any meditation, my preparation was not great this week and as a result my sleep schedule has been completely ruined. Played/Studied til about 7am last night due to the games.

Poker

The action the last week has been the best I've ever witnessed in my career, I've often gone to bed at 4-5AM with multiple midstakes games running. This is extremely rare in a fenced in market. I was 11-12 tabling 500NL yday due to the sheer volume of games, it was truly nuts.

Another winning week as well. 12/12

Corona

Still going strong on the Quarantine. It hasn't affected me as much as the normal person as I'm already home most of the day, but my wife is bored out of her mind which may be why I've spent more time with her instead of playing...I bought us a switch though so hopefully we can keep preoccupied!

I'm isolated from my parents since my mom's a critical care nurse which sucks, she's already been offered significant money to help at some other hospitals in NJ that are getting hammered with COVID responses. Both her and my SIL are nurses and at this point it's hard not to imagine either of them getting it which is not fun. Really kind of unlucky to live right next to the absolute epicenter of the current pandemic.

April Donation

Since games are so plentiful, from a poker perspective I'm benefiting off of this situation. So I'm highly likely to do some sort of charity/giveaway for next month. I have a lot of friends who have already gotten laid off and or have their hours cut.

If anyone has suggestions as far as where to donate etc., please let me know.

Taxes

Got pushed back 3 months, very good news for me as I can still play 5k comfortably!

Going to keep this post very brief since I'm going to do a quarterly report summing up first 3 months of the year. I lost 25k this weekend in probably worst 3 day stretch of my career, including back to back 5 figure loss days. It sucks, but ofc was bound to happen as I started to play these higher stakes. I played fairly mediocre although happy with the hours put in despite the constant ass kicking.

With the quarantine going on games are better than they've ever been so I am focusing on cash as I'm just much better at them skill wise and also dealing with the variance with them.

March tournaments were absolutely scary. I'm down 12k in them.

Cashed in 2/49 entries. And am 0 for my last 30 tournaments. I stone bubbled quite a few. Curious how bad that is on the short term scale, obviously v feasible but I have no idea if this is bottom 15% or bottom 5% lol.

Gonna keep on keeping on with this in the meantime and not going to freak out over small sample sizes

Hi, yeah I've been a coach for them for over 2 years. It was an overwhelming positive experience for me as a student since I was fairly new to poker and I needed some direction as far as what I needed to work on regarding poker, and have also made some life long friendships as well.

QUARTER I: JANUARY 1ST-MARCH 31ST

I came into this year with very high hopes after a career best 2019 and felt fairly confident about my game, while still knowing there were a lot of strides for improvement.

I wanted to focus on 3 specific topics this year for self improvement: POKER, MENTAL HEALTH, and FITNESS

-Poker is self explanatory, as it is my main source of income

-Mental Health was also extremely important to me; not only as it applies to poker but in every day life. Gotta take care of your chicken.

-Fitness. 2019 was the year I honestly got out of shape. I've never been out of my shape before in my life so it was important to reset this into a habit like I had back in my college years and early twenties.

Poker

*No context results

Poker went about as well as I could have hoped. My run bad has mostly filtered at my lowest stake and I have ran very well at 1k/2k through a limited sample.

My hourly is the highest it's been and my avg stake has increased as well, although my W/R is down as well.

Another big goal of mine was to push more volume into the game, specifically playing.

Here are my approximate splits by month

JANUARY: 98.14 hours played/ 3.75 hours studied/ 7 hours coached= 108.89 hours

FEBRUARY: 110.85 hours played/ 20.25 hours studied/ 14.32 hours coached = 145.42 hours

MARCH: 140.76 hours played/ 11.5 hours studied/ 8.5 hours coached= 160.76 hours

Of course there are variables such as the wedding and corona virus and adderall that influence these, but I hope to continue trending in a positive direction here regarding work ethic with the game.

The only disappointment so far has been tournament poker. That is still a goal for me. But it's taken a backseat after what's been going on.

Mental Game

I've been hit or miss with this topic. Started off strong as far as meditating, but like usual am not making it a daily habit as there are too many skipped days.

As I've started incorporating 5k into the mix it's really important I keep a strong mental base when I deal with the swings (which I already am and man are they massive, yet, sooo much fun)

For the 2nd quarter, I'm planning on working with a mental coach at some point.

Fitness

I've made some progress with this in comparison to 2019. I'm especially somehow eating healthy during this quarantine although my workouts are suffering. I have managed 15-30 min exercises about 4x time a week but it's not the same as a full time gym ofc.

The difference between a workout and non workout is really monumental though, it's the best free drug you could give yourself.

Quarter II Goals

1.) Close the gap between my A game and B game. I feel like there's an enormous gap in skill between my two levels of game and I think strengthening my overall B game is something I should really strive for.

2.) Put 100 hours of solver work in. I will not be going to the WSOP no matter what they decide so I will have time over the summer to really improve my game. If I put in this type of work on a consistent basis, I will 100% see continued success

Sub goals:

1.) Get my chess ELO rating to 1000 by end of Quarter. Started playing last 2 months sporadically and got from 450-700, will be a fun little hobby for me.

2.) Create 10 new Lesson Plans for students. I've created some pretty good content for some of my students, but there's a few topics that are bear and will also be a good study tool for me.

Hope everyone is staying safe over there and keeping safe!

Week 14-Week 16: An Oxymoron

1.) 100.34 hours of Poker Yearly Goal: 500.76/1800

2.) 1.2 hours of Mental Health Yearly Goal: 7.45/75

3.) 4.35 hours of Fitness Yearly Goal: 43.17/200

I averaged about 33 hours of poker over the last week. However I had done 88 hours through the first 2 weeks, before dropping and only doing 12 this week. I only played 12 hours since I went Monday-Friday without playing a hand of poker.

Mental Game Struggles

I would say this April is the worst I've played poker in the last 10 or 11 months. I am just not playing well. I'm making an exorbitant amount of blunders. Mistakes are welcome, mistakes are going to happen a lot. Blunders are avoidable and I know better.

So yeah frustration with my gameplay has been a big factor, another adjustment has been a bit regarding anxiety, had been feeling anxious last week during game time and decided to take 2 days off (which stretched into 5). There are a bunch of factors that are a variable in this, but I've also been shotting 5knl and the magnitude of the swings is an adjustment.

*buried to even in 750 hands

It's worth noting that despite these mental struggles, I am not losing, I'm still doing v well results wise. Just not happy with the standard of play.

I also won the biggest pot of my career in which I also consider now the luckiest hand of my career as I was on the right side of an AA/KK set up deep at 5k.

Surrogacy

We have officially signed on with a surrogate agency to help us find a match, I just paid the agency fee ($11,500) and our now 20th in queue for a match. Once we get matched, I have to send out about $70k in escrow. I'm v excited about this and also means being a father is now rounding into the short term. The normal match process for our wait is about 10-12 months but with COVID could be longer. The process should end up at approx 98-150k. So just need to keep winning

New Set up

Got another desk, and new computer. New comp is solely for running sims and some gaming. It was a bit of a splurge but my new comp had way too many limitations as far as computing power, so now my office looks a bit more legit!

2.) 1 hour of Mental Health Yearly Goal: 8.45/75

3.) 2.1 hours of Fitness Yearly Goal:45.17/200

Poker

Got buried early in the week and then had a massive friday to pretty even it up and book a cool $88 weekly profit, pizza's on me babe.

Nothing too interesting to report. Still playing fairly meh, still getting wrecked at tourneys (4/4 on losing months! ) but have spent last 2 days working on my game a decent about and had about 8 hours of coaching which was almost all attributed to Bvb play.

I am taking tomorrow off because the wife turns 29, so going to spend the day with her but since we are going to be confined to the house, it will probably be lazy day.

Had very high hopes this month $$ wise and I finished solid, but games were great and I wish I played a bit better. Otherwise I'm setting myself up well for the future. It's kind of nice to be able to take money out of my account for other things without worrying about being able to play my stakes!

Surrogacy

Moved up to #19 on the waiting list for a match.

Yes, that's still on the docket for this year. I actually reached out to bena when he offered his mental game coaching but unsurprisingly he was sold out. I've mostly gone off recommendations, have had a friend recommend Dan Heskitt which is another option I will ofc consider.

Not sure if I'll put a budget on it as I've never really shied away from spending $$ to improve. Hopefully, can start around July or so.

Upcoming Plans and Freeroll

I mentioned how poorly I played in April and after going over results; looks like I had the best cash month of my career. (Play bad and win, life is good) I did lose a decent amount in tournies though so it was not the best month of my career although it does slide in at #2!

I managed about 60k hands over 19 days of playing. Averaging over 3k hands is definitely an improvement and something I want to build on.

I've made my schedule and I'm looking to play 110k hands for May. If I don't win I'll donate $250 to the charity of your choice OR one free coaching session. To qualify just post in here between now and end of May.

Reasoning? Trying to make the most out of this epidemic of course but also will be taking a long break during one of the summer months as I'm going to get my eyes done.

Other Musings

-Getting my roof replaced, feeling more and more like a suburban dad

-Have been doing workouts with wife, it's only 30 mins but it's all high intensity and I've already lost about 8 pounds. Feel very lean, only downside is with no weights I'm losing the gains

-With lack of sports, have been immersed with the 'Last Dance'; a doc on Jordan and the '98 bulls. I didn't get into basketball until 2000 so great to see such a detailed look.

-Going to put off tourney poker for a month, been working hard on my game and enjoying it as well, been pretty consistent spending an hour a day working on spots, cash is the focus as of now.

GL in May everyone
