Quick January Breakdown

Ran ridiculously hot last 2 weeks, I really could use positive variance this year, and it is out of my hand, but it's a nice start to the year. Also, really kicked up my game as month went on, quite happy with how I'm playing.

As far as putting the work in off the table, I was never going to be too high or too low with how the month went, as long as I wasn't super lazy.

For January, I dedicated:

-129.08 hours to Poker

-3.75 hours to Meditation

-1.25 hours to Meditation

Overall, that doesn't seem too much time at 134 hours overall, but it sends a baseline for me going forward. I've been implementing a lot of new habits so I'm not gonna beat up on myself for not having amazing results off the bat; at the same time, I recognize these will not be acceptable as the year moves on.

So results were great, volume was meh (50k hands for the month), but the process was great and I think it's gonna lead to a lot of self improvement.

Also I had a staking agreement with my old friend Fat N Sweaty (literally first 2+2 friend I got to meet in real life, back when I was in the 50NL streets) that ended in 2018 which was a big help to my finances and was mutually beneficial to both parties, so S/O to him.

Week 5 Overview

Only got to work 3 days really this week which was mildly frustrating, but got some stuff done. Had some social events with close friends and family and then Superbowl today. I am honestly really itching to play so maybe later tonight!

Knicks traded my favorite player the night after I see them in person which is pretty much the life of a Knicks fan as well.

Week 6 Overview: 2/4-2/10

Pretty good week as far as volume. I played every day in some capacity despite having a busy schedule off of it. I started the IVF process by getting a sperm analysis (2nd one in 2 months) and then I have 3 appointments to get my sperm frozen throughout the next few weeks.

My process was a little wacky and my daily routine suffered a little bit which wasn't great although I remained fairly productive. I had my first meh kind of workouts and didn't spend much time off the table.

Results were meh, I got killed on WSOP which is untracked so the graph looks much prettier than it is. I had stretches of really excellent play mixed with some just absolute trash hands, the goal to finish this upcoming week is to grind hard as possible since I'm taking only vacation of the year in a 9 day all inclusive in riviera de maya.

Was flabbergasted when I saw it, thanks bud, hope the variance train turns around for you!

Week 7 Overview: 2/11-2/14

Short week with vacation to Mexico about to begin. Effort was good but had some regression sticking to my schedule and my sleep schedule got off tracks. Had one night where I played til 5AM and just ran a bunch of sims on some hands I was unsure of.

Did some fun life stuff as well, but can't really disclose that until a later date.

Health wise has been a disaster...in my latest installment (the following may be TMI so spoiler below)

Spoiler:
Went too hard in the paint, and have to get my d*ck fixed, or in medical terms had a tear and have to get that fixed for a minor procedure

Between that and Crohns, been paying quite a bit in medical bills this year. On the bright side, I'm a healthy 207 pounds so it looks like all the gym work has paid off.

Alright rambling done, lets look at results.

Ran horrible in AIEV, but managed to break even $$$ wise which is always a blessing and was running good to start the year, so in a sense feels like this evened this out.

I did run -5k below EV one day but was just really pleased with my mental game. There was of course frustration, but was cognizant that yeah I'm aware I'm frustrated, let's reset, take a deep breath, acknowledge it, and move on.

Meditation has been very helpful so far this year.

Yearly Goals:

1.) 15 mins of meditation. Yearly Goal: 5/50

2.) 0 mins of Yoga. Yearly Goal: 1.57/60

3.) 26.46 hours of Poker. Yearly Goal: 207.44/2200

Away til the 24th for long rest and relaxation. I am honestly a bit bummed about not playing for 9 days, I've been really enjoying the grind lately, but I will not complain about an all expense paid vacation GL at the tables everyone

Don't you think calling A5s oop is too loose? In that 59s hand why are you going that big? Was it an exploit?
What sizing do you suggest with KT when betting?

No, could 4b sometimes as well. Sizing wasn’t an exploit. Would have liked to go 3/4ths in KT hand.

Week 8 Overview: 2/18-2/24

This week was all about relaxation as I headed down with my girlfriend and her parents to the all inclusive Valentin Imperial in Riviera Maya, Cancun. Victoria's grandfather passed away last year and using some of the will money her dad wanted to take the family and significant others on the trip so it was a free vacation, and man was it nice.

I was here last year but the place is really beautiful and the service was excellent. I pretty much layed in the sun eating and drinking as much as possible. I did have the itch to play some poker especially with all the things me and Vic have to get done but it was great to relax. I didn't meditate or do Yoga but I was somewhat active getting 3 workouts in throughout the trip. Interestingly enough, my Crohns went into remission first day there so maybe stress played a bigger factor than I thought.

I gained a good 5lbs and am now sitting at 210, which is pretty much the heaviest I've been. Not really fat, but not too lean either... oh well.

Also random note, but I got to read for pleasure for the first time in ages. I'm a big horror fan so I read Misery from Stephen King and then followed it up with The Stand, which I'm about 75% done with. What a masterful writer he is, looking forward to reading that after this post.

I got back to work Sunday and put in a pretty monster (for me at least) 11 hour grind, mixing between cash and some tourney action throughout the day. I had a good day on both sides and was rewarded my biggest day of the year which is nice!

Monday was a bit of a reality check as I spent a good 2 hours on the phone with my insurance company as it looks like this dick surgery would be like $4k out of pocket. Getting f*cked literally and figuratively. (ba-da-ba)

Very important for me to get back on track with my daily routine and this vacation not to get out of sorts.

11 Hours of Poker. Yearly Goal: 218.44/2200

Only played 1 day, so no hands of the week but below is video of the podcast I did a few weeks ago with BTS.

Really enjoying this tread as I feel I really draw from a similar place in my poker journey. I absolutely love The Stand as well as most other Stephen King novels. If you are looking for another one 11/22/63 is fantastic. Also if you are looking to get more into yoga my girlfriend and I have an alomoves subscription that we usually do before I start a poker session. Ive found it is fantastic for my mental game and also balance with the GF.

Thanks man, I used to be an avid reader in general, love getting lost in these fictional words. Yeah Stand was great, thought the ending was just ok but the journey in general was fantastic, I definitely shed a few tears.

Yeah I heard that's a great one too, my mother has pushed that one on me. I will check it out for sure and totally agree I've done Yoga with my gf and it is a nice little couple bonding material.

I guess I will do a more fleshed out post for my weekly write up but I am getting engaged this month, going through the IVF process atm (funny story I'll have to share later), and then poker in general.

I'm going to grind my ass off because me and my closest friends since highschool our going to AC to enjoy 1st weekend of March Madness. Outside of that it's gonna be work time.

Gl everyone at the tables.

Congrats on impending engagement! When doing IVF is the goal of getting pregnant relatively immediate or is it a long drawn out process?

Thanks, the goal is to create an embryo reading for implementation. My girlfriend CAN get pregnant, but it's a serious risk to her health which is why we're going this route.

The goal is to get an embryo, store it, and when we are ready for children, we'll move into the surrogacy process.

We are currently in my process. I have gotten my sperm analyzed once so far and then gone two seperate times to South Jersey to get my swimmers frozen like it's the Winter Olympics. After my 3rd time, my GF will start with her process (next week) which is a lot more going on than what I have to do.

Week 9 Overview: 2/25-3/3

Post-vacation led to a regression in my daily routine especially regarding meditation and yoga, of course I was punished with heat. I wasn't playing great and lost a chunk last 2 days after variance steadied a bit.

On the bright side, I was fairly busy playing and or coaching.

1.) 15 mins of meditation. Yearly Goal: 5.25/50

2. 0 Hours of Yoga. Yearly Goal: 1.57/60

3. 46.54 hours dedicated to Poker. Yearly Goal: 264.98/2200

Overall, I managed only 40k hands for February, BUT it was a short month and I was gone for 1/3rd of it. My hours per day improved and my sessions have gotten longer in general. I've also started mixing in some tournaments mostly on Sundays. My roll has increased fairly quickly and I can fire upto $500 as much as I'd like. Cash is slow on these days and despite obvious shortcomings it's hard to think I'm not EV.

I've only gotten 90k hands through 2 months so March needs to be a doozy. But I'm optimistic that everythings getting better. It also helps when I've started the year with 2 pretty big months.

Upcoming

IVF process has started. Ive started by getting my sperm analyzed in a seedy office in Newark. Funny enough, it's a small room with some old school (and some weird fetish) magazines. I then went down south to the company's main office and the difference could not be more apparent.

The main office had a freaking waterfall in the main lobby and the room they 'send' you to do your business was way nicer. With a plush lounge chair and a selection of videos that would make pornhub blush. I have to make this trip 2 more times on the 3/5 and 3/12.

My gf than has to a blood doctor (forget the name), take her IUD out and then start receiving hormone shots at the end of March to prepare her body to think she is pregnant. Mid-April we fertilize the egg and by the end of April we will know if it worked.

There's a chance we have to do it again and more so for Victoria I pray to God that doesn't happen, but it's out of our hands.

I also am getting engaged and barring a 1 outer I expect a yes. Can't really say when that's happening since I think she knows of this blog. I am then going to AC for a bunch of friends first weekend of March Madness to just have a good time with the boys. Besides that I plan on just grinding as hard as I can.
