Not much to update. Played 1st day and all that previous post about discipline went out the window as I played a 2k game. It was a great game so while I feel guilty, I ended up winning 3k there. Ok, don't feel guilty.

But yeah def laying off 2k til the 60k goal. Also going to stop playing PLO after another losing session, at least for this month. The PLO experiment this year was a big disaster and I lost for 2 reasons.

1.) I suck
2.) I ran really bad

Definitely going to get coaching on this in the future as I think the game will just grow, and it is definitely a lot of fun

PA resident here and parx/borg "hs live pro". I started following your thread when PA legalized ipoker to get a glimpse of what intrastate online poker is like. Do you happen to know how soft the games were when NJ first legalized because I am hearing mixed things. I'm sort of trying to mentally prepare myself for a 1 million hand/year grind and I'm hoping to hear that the first year was a gold mine.

I actually didn't even play poker when NJ legalized. I heard they were good games, although I can't clarify having not played.

One aspect of coaching that's school is I review a lot of hands from multiple sites and would say that Ignition/Global probably have softest player pools in world.

I expect the games to be fairly good when PA eventually joins and with liquidity increasing the midstake games should increase exponentially.

Worth noting though that with WSOP merger between NJ/Nevada it has the most action but also probably the toughest games out of NJ's options.

Gl with a million hands though that is a major grind, definitely have respect for the guys that crank out that volume.

Out of curiosity, how tougher are nl2k regs compared to 500z regs? Thought 500z was already super high in skill level of the regs in there to the point that the difference between 500z pool would be way small if we compare it to nl2k+

I don't play 500z on Stars so don't think I'm the most qualified person to answer that. In general, the top regs leaks are much less transparent and are difficult to exploit and often don't make nearly as much mistakes as your average reg.

How goes the grind?

I will make an end of the year post kind of summing up everything, but overall a disappointing year for me. Not that I'm not winning, I just had high expectations that I didn't clear (100% my fault).

I think I'm going to revive this thread a bit coming into the New Year since I have a few big life challenges coming my way.

The next 6-12 months will not only be the most critical time of my poker career, but probably my life.

Before I get into why and what I need to do (revival of this PGC) I need to catch up everyone on what happened has happened this year since I haven't been consistent in posting and there's been a lot that's happened this year that drastically impacted my future.

2018, PART I: ASCENSCION (JANUARY-MARCH)

I finished 2017, on a pretty good high (recording a high of 27k in November) and in the last days of my BTS contract. I was ready to make money and finally keep all of it.

January wasn't too eventful to be honest. I finished the BTS contract around 3 weeks in and put in a good amount of volume (Start off the new year strong as always). I started off hot before having a brutal 16k day and ended up booking a small win.

The real highlight was when I was offered a coaching position with BTS. Before I became pro, and even during the early months I always looked at coaches as well-established players who had made a name in the poker world. While we know that's not true for everybody it definitely felt great to have great players have confidence to offer me the chance.

I took the position without second thought. The pay was probably not what I could get if I wanted to coach on my own but it was still a no brainer putting myself surrounded with a community of players trying to get better and still picking info from other coaches brains.

February:

After a little win in January, things picked up pretty well and I had my first 5 figure month (while running 8k below EV) of the year and still got a weeks vacation in the 5 star resort in Riviera de Maya, was a ton of fun.

I also began coaching, I was kind of nervous since I've only had a handful of students before but I really enjoy it, I got great students who definitely led me to getting better myself.


March, AKA The Greatest month of my Career

I had just dragged a $24k pot, and it was just the beginning as I capped it off with a monster 50.6k month. I thought this blog was over, this was the beginning of my ascension to a dominant player and completed my transition to an 'endboss'.

Of course, in the moment I was naive to the fact I sunran highstakes and while I am good and did play very well that month, I didn't really grind hard and I didn't really study hard and sometimes these habits fester... I ended up hitting a major downswing soon after, in life and in poker.

OFC it's possible, just look at mmasherdog's thread. It's possible in the same way that running 100m in under 9 seconds is possible. Impossible for most people.
