Hello there.

After a great year for me financially, I decided to cross off my bucket list and hit the road, playing poker across the US. This was mainly inspired from needing a break from the career grind and wanting something that takes me out of my comfort zone. Instead of continuing to live in a bubble, it's time to see the world and grow as a person (if this trip goes well, I might venture out of the country). This trip of course, isn't only about poker. Along the way I'll be checking out the attractions, nightlife, and hopefully meeting interesting people along the way.

Also note that I'm already a month into this trip.

About me: I'm a small fry low stakes winning online/live cash player with some previous PG&C threads (I hate tournaments and don't bother with them). In total I've made about $16k between live and online play starting from 5nl 6max to 1-3 and 2-5. After a previous PG&C thread in 2015 running up to 8k in a few months, I quit poker for a good 5 years due to mental health issues. Here are the threads:

Personal Struggles
Alcoholism has been a HUGE leak in life and my game. I'll just say I had a very shaky start out of high school which led to years of self loathing and drinking. Unfortunately it's still something I deal with, but I'm determined to quit for my sanity and my game.
My next biggest issue is inconsistency, which other members have pointed out. If I lose at holdem and win once at Omaha, voila, I'm now an Omaha player. Once I lose, then I'm back to being a holdem player etc etc. Throughout this trip I'll only be serious about playing holdem cash no matter what (will likely try out regional games for shits n giggles).

Expectations:
- Although it would be nice to win on this trip, I have no monetary expectations other than leaving with an experience I can look back on. The real intent of this trip is to have fun, get out of my comfort zone, and grow as a person.
- Be on a somewhat regular workout schedule.
- Study + review hands of the day

Rules/Strategy/BR Management
- Play one bullet only per day. This has been my best risk management rule to lose small and win big. I personally think playing while you're down and telling yourself "you're not tilted, your mental game is strong" is one of the biggest leaks out there.
- No playing while intoxicated. Ideally, I want to be sober the entire trip.
- If I don't see my edge with the players at the table within the first half hour, I leave/table change.
-Prime play hours will be evenings on the weekdays (to catch people off work) and all throughout the weekend (more casuals coming in).
- I'll be starting at 1-3NL with the intention of moving up if my profits are 15x the next buy in. Once I'm back to the previous buy in amount, I move down. Structure is as follows:
$4,500: 1-3
$7,500: 2-5
$15,000: 5-10

*As a side note, I'm open to constructive criticism on my play.

As stated, I'm already a month into this trip and will do my best to summarize what's happened already. Vegas was a wash.

On 6/28, the very first day of play, I went to the Venetian and got sloppy drunk. The game was decent and had a high hand promo worth around $200. With about $800 in front of me, I went from shooting the **** with the table, to suddenly waking in the blazing hot sun of the strip. I realize I'm an an alley near the garden of the Mirage, without my shorts, and 4 yellow shirt guards telling me to gtfo the property. My wallet, keys, and phone are nowhere to be found. I'm in a daze and don't know wtf just happened. I tell them I got robbed and they say "yeah yeah, now we need you to leave". Still in my underwear, I head to the security desks of the Venetian and the Mirage to tell them I got robbed and they brush me off saying there's nothing they can do aside from giving me the number to a locksmith. Looking back, I never asked for them to call the police, but they also never offered. I was so out of it I wasn't thinking straight. After a few hours of aimlessly walking, still in my underwear mind you, I get a taxi to take me to my bank so I can get cash for food and head back to my airbnb to figure out wtf just happened. Bank says they can only give me $100 since I have no ID. I use their phone to call my friend who can log into my airbnb info and after awhile they get the address. After getting back to my place I crash and spend the next week getting a new phone, cancelling cards, and a new set of car keys.

Now as a professional alcoholic, I can tell you that from drinking beers, I've never blacked out. Even if I go to sleep after like 20, I'll remember what happened the night before, but in this case I didn't remember ANYTHING. Like an idiot, I put one of my beers below the table which I suspect was roofied. The guy to my right seemed a bit too friendly and if anything, I suspect he did it. Afterwards I put in a police report, talked to a detective, and haven't heard from them since. They put in a bunch of charges to my credit cards for mcdonalds (lol?) and target gift cards. Luckily I had also parked at Caesars since I was planning on playing there first, but the room was full so there was no way they could steal the car too. And for those of you thinking I got it up the bum since they took my shorts, I didn't feel sore down there or the feeling of being violated so it's a no, or a really tiny dick.

Afterwards I found the whole thing pretty funny and kept playing and drinking. 6 sessions later, I'm only up $200 when I should be up over $1000. My drinking and partying was getting so out of hand I had to take a serious breather. For the last 2 weeks I just hung out around the hotel playing video games and sobering up. I had initially thought since I was in Vegas I should be going to clubs and doing crazy memorable ****, but it really killed the entire thing for me. I had previously thought about buying a house in Vegas as well, but my god is the place depressing. You have people on the strip dressed to the nines with the sad broken degenerates walking around like ghosts outside of it. On my way back I'll probably try to do a redo on Vegas, just sober.

To fill in the big gap between Nola and Miami:

Beau Rivage (Biloxi)
Ebro (Panama City)
Tampa Hard Rock and/or Jacksonville (there are a ton of good places to play in FL)

Also be sure to visit Cherokee if you're driving north from FL to the NE

Arrived in Scottsdale AZ 7/28 to play at the Talking Stick. So far been killing it, and god damn it feels good to be sober. Also I have to say their players card is prob the nicest I've seen yet.

Note that I'm recounting the past few days based on my notes so the hand's below may lack some detail.

7/28: I get to my airbnb, unpack, and head to the casino. Been driving 5 hours, but loaded with caffeine and ready to go. A fairly solid LAG woman 3bets my $10 ATo open to $40 (not to be sexist, but anyone noticing lately that female players are getting way better?). She's been 3betting light so I get a light 4bet in to $120 with the Ace blocker for a fold. Play for about half an hour realizing the table's pretty stiff so ask for a table change. I only recently started doing table changes when I don't think the table's good and it's been killing it for me. So far I'm 6/6 and I usually end up 300bb+. Although I can reg battle, no point when there's softer spots.

Next table's loose/passive and stationy. Seat 2 is a special kind of calling station (calling a 150 shove pre with T8o because he just doesn't fold, my kinda guy). Running a bit cold and down to around $250 when I get KTo MP. A couple limps to me and I make it $15. Calls across the board including seat 2 whos only got around $100 behind. Board comes T7x. X'd to me and I bet half for around $45. Folds to seat 2 my only caller. Turn is a Jack. I notice he's only got around $50 behind so I put in $100 to cover him. He calls and then the dealer tells me... "He's got $400 behind". You can buy in for $500 at this 2/3 game and didn't notice the chip runner getting him anything and feel like slapping myself. River is a King, giving me 2 pair in which I shove and he calls. I show and he mucks, but based on how he was playing I doubt I even needed that King.

Next hand was just bad play, but I'll mention it for the irony. Seat 6 to my right seems kinda slow in the head and hasn't been in many hands with about $170ish. Limped to me in MP and I make it 17 with QQ. We get about 3 callers including seat 6. Flop is T62r no draws. It's x'd to seat 6 who makes it $35. I have some rigid thinking about betting into the PFR multiway as strong, but I think the truth is some people are just very simple thinkers. "I have a pair, so I raise" kinda simplicity so I need to start sifting that out a bit better. Anyway I just flat and the other 2 fold. Turn is a King and he makes it $65 with only $45 behind. IMO my call on the flop should be concerning for a T and with my range uncapped a K is gonna be better for me than him. Aside from that he's committed with only $45 behind and I feel like I'm getting milked. He then started saying "Jacks no good" which obviously is a sign of weakness, but we had some friendly conversation earlier and I took him for one of those people who just genuinely tell you when you're not good and show you aces or w/e because they like it. So ultimately I folded and he showed me ATo lol.

The irony later on is that I get QQ again vs him on a 77x board. Turn is a 7. river is a blank. He triple barrel bluff shoves me all the way and gives me his stack.

Ended the night +$656

7/29: Easy come, easy go. This was probably my fastest bullet lost since I've played live. Wait for an hour to get into the graveyard high hand promo and get into a brand new table. First hand dealt AQdd. I make it 10 to go from MP and get called by few including BB (seat 7). Flop comes QTXr. X'd to me and bet half pot $20. Folds to BB who flats. Turn is a blank. X'd to me and I make it $40 he calls. River is a T and he donks $200. With no read, I opt to let it go.

Several hands in and I have Queens 4 ways and get an AJx board with a lot of action so get out pretty easily. At this point I'm down to about $100. What was crazy was seat 8 who won the hand was on the craziest heater I've ever seen. He had won I want to say 10 pots in a row which were all fairly big. About one orbit he went from $300 to $1200+.

Last hand was AQo vs seat 7 and 8. Flop comes Q7Xr and x'd to me. I go for half pot and have about $50 left, 7 reraises me all in, 8 calls, and I'm just never folding with $50 behind/was slightly tilted playing vs them. Board ends up Q7XTX. Seat 7 had a set of 7s and seat 8 had two pair QT and I was out. Queens killed it for me yesterday, then killed me today.

Spent the rest of the day doing some sightseeing and trying out Native American fried food which was incredible.

7/30: Got to the Talking Stick around 1 for the high hand promo. First 2 hours of play was me having to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge better hands. My AA vs Q9 on a K9T board with a 9 turn. Villain's cards were basically face up based on how he bet, so I muck and he shows. Eventually I get JJ vs AQ on an QJx board and double up to around $500. I table change to a very passive, limpy table and get pocket tens early on. Villain to my right seems to be the only winner with around $900 in front.

Limped to me with pocket tens in MP and I make it $17 to go with about 3 callers. Flop is QTX with a club draw. X'd to me and I make it $40, folded until villain on my right who flats. Turn is a 9 (no club). Villain X, I make it $80 and he calls. River is another 9 and he donks for $200. I make a pretty easy shove for around $400 which he takes forever to fold to. Later he admits to having a club draw with a T that missed.

Played fairly solid the rest of the night bluffing or calling down medium sized pots. Made a pretty embarrassing triple barrel bluff that got called by second pair jacks on an ace high board. Ended the night +$510

8/1: The Talking Stick is doing renovations to their poker room and closed until Wednesday so decided to check out the Diamond Desert Casino in the mean time. Entire game was about the two loose players to my left who never just never folded pre or never folded with a pair or gutshot on the flop and turn. Both were running pretty hot the entire time. Seat 1 had about $1400 in front of him and seat 2 repeatedly went from $1200 to bust, then back to $1200 hitting outs in pots he really shouldn't be in. A lot of the times seat 2 busted was because he had TPWK and made some pretty terrible calls or tanked forever before folding them. My plan was just to play tight and value bet both of them since they still gave action even if I nitted up.

First hand between me and seat 2 is my KK vs his TT on a 9xx board that I raised pre. I bet the flop, he minraises, I shove for $200 (was running pretty cold for the most part). After tanking he calls (which imo was a pretty easy fold for Ts) and I double up.

Second hand is with seat 2 and Kings again. I raise to $15 pre, seat 1 makes it $40 to go followed by the entire table calling 40. I had chipped down to about $240 and with about $200 in there I shove. Seat 1 calls followed by folds. He shows J9s and my Kings hold up.

Third hand was played poorly and very greedy on my part. Straddled pot in EP with JJ and I make it $20 to go. Seat 1 makes it $50 followed by seat 2 calling. Folds to me and I flat (I hate jacks). Seat 1's 3 betting range wasn't just crap either, a lot of the times he was actually pretty strong. Stacks are about $500 effective for me. Flop is J68r. I x. Seat 1 makes it $50, seat 2 calls, and I... Call??? My thinking at the time was this board has some draws, but I wanted to try and get max value out of these 2 especially and have them committed by the turn considering they never fold with a pair or gutshot type hands. If I were to pump it to $150-200 on the flop they might fold, but in retrospect I doubt they would have with any garbage piece. Turn is a 9. I x, seat 1 bets $100, seat 2 calls, and I make it $300. Seat 1 calls along with seat 2. River is a 5 and I jam for my remaining $100 and seat 1 folds. Seat 2 shows T7s for a gutshot straight hit on the turn. In retrospect the better play was definitely to reraise the flop, but I don't think I was ever going to win the hand because these guys were incredibly loose. I truly believe that even if I made it $200 on the flop, seat 1 would've definitely called (showed QJo) and seat 2 would've called with his gutshot. Ended the night -$300

Felt pretty annoyed with the whole situation and spewed my remaining $80 or so. Afterwards I got a workout in then stuffed my face with some Thai food.

Winnings and stats are starting from 2021. I don't really see the point in starting it over + I'm a cheap bastard and don't wanna pay for filters lol. So far on the trip I've made $850

Not much of a picture taker, but I'll try to take more along the way.

I never go to museums, but this one had a lot of cowboy related history which I'm always into. Here's some old school saloon gambling cards etc.

In Austin TX now and holy crap, talk about a week of running cold. Was down $1100 in 3 sessions (not including the -$300 at Diamond Desert) and I just never had a chance. Most of it was me bleeding chips with strong potential hands like AQ and just never being anywhere near the flop MULTIPLE times followed by tons of action I couldn't do anything about. Every double barrel or bluff heads up, I would just run into it. Also my biggest hands where I had something would get sucked out on and I was so tilted I had to stop playing for the week. Luckily today I recovered all of it (it's much easier to type this out on a positive note) and then some.

8/2: Head back to The Talking stick to play and check out the "tent" they have setup. Place looked great so was really impressed. After about an hour of not much action I get A7cc close to the button. It's raised to $10 from EP followed by several calls which I tag along. Pot's roughly $60 and the flop comes A73 with the 3 of clubs. X'd to the MAWG to my right who's been playing fairly solid so far who makes it $20. Thinking I monopolize most of the board, I'll RR OTT so I flat and we get 1 more callers. Turn is the T of clubs giving me a flush draw with my 2pair. MAWG makes it $50 and I RR to $150. He tanks for a bit then shoves and I'm already pot committed so I call. River is the 9s and he shows ATo.

I got greedy here once again trying to take on variance to get more value like I did at the Diamond Desert and I need to just protect my hand. It's questionable if a raise OTF would've gotten him to fold ATo, but I might've been able to considering he's fairly solid and there's no draws on the board. There's much more merit for doing something like this with a set, but 2pair is vulnerable.

8/4: Drove all day and stopped in Tombstone AZ which is famous for a shootout at the O.K. Corral between Cowboys and the local Sheriffs. I love spaghetti westerns along with anything cowboy related so it was a must. I'm a dork too and even watched their recreation of the gunfight. After that and driving around 7 hours I get to El paso. Going against my better judgement I decide to play at the local club House of Kings and I'm slightly appalled by the $10 per hour seat rake. Doing some research later, it's actually the equivalent of being raked at the casino, but favors loose play and punishes being tight.

They had a 1-2 and a 2-5 game going. Without knowing how people play in Texas, thinking "1-2 will likely play solid and paying $10 per hour is just robbing us blind" I sign up for the 2-5 to try and get better value. Little did I know how loose the games are. When I arrive with $500 at the 2-5, most players have over $1500 behind and the standard raise pre is $30, playing more like 5-10. Seeing how good the game was I decide to stay even though I should've just asked to move down to 1-2, but my ego got in the way of saying "can I play lower stakes please?" Everything I had, missed. In about an hour I'm down to $150. Drunk lag raises to $30 and I tiltedly call with my 89s. Flop comes QQ9 which he bets $30 and I call. Turn he puts me all in and I see him looking at his chips before he does it (usually a tell). Monkey tilted and knowing I'm dead, I say **** and call anyway. He shows a Q, surprise surprise lol.

8/5-6: Get to Austin TX after driving about 9 hours. I visited this little town on the way called Marfa which is known for its art. I'm not really an art person so was mildly amused by it. The only thing that really stood out was the fake Prada store in the middle of nowhere. Once I get to my airbnb at around 10 I hit the sack.

Next day I head to Shuffle 512. I plan on playing at all the clubs even though it's honestly all the same **** lol. The run bad continues and within an hour I'm chipped down to $110. I catch AQ in MP and this guy who's been drinking and plays a weird mix of lag and loose passive calls in the SB, along with 2 others. Flop comes QQ8. X'd to me and I X. Turn is a 9 and the Drunk guy bets $50. Guy to my right calls and I ship for $100. Drunk guy calls, guy to my right folds. River is a T and he's got J8 for a straight. Made a frustrated and embarrassing exit because I had to double back to get things left on the drink holder.

8/11: Not a great start. I'm back at Shuffle 512 and 3 hours in I'm barely holding on with about $65 left. I will say this session really taught me a bit more about how people play in Texas and how it kind of counters my own. Normally at a table of solid players certain bets and reraises mean strength, but here, people will reraise you OTF or OTT with TPWK. I believe one of my strengths is reading people and these guys genuinely believe TPWK is strong and so I believe they're stronger than they are. I believe that one of my strengths as a player is knowing when to fold, but here I'm overfolding. Today I don't think my initial stack chipped away because I was running that bad (won some lost some), it was mostly me overfolding the best hand. I think this also really underlines the point of the trip. For the most part, my play over the years has become very stale. It's TAG with overfolds and some bluffs and when I see certain betting lines, my brain just automatically jumps to conclusions. Playing across the US though will expose me to different playstyles which can help me evolve and most importantly, learn to adapt.

As a side note, Texas cardrooms have an Omaha double board bomb pot which actually kept me alive most of the game. I have some experience with Omaha live and online, but holy crap the action is insane (we had a $1400 bomb pot).

With $65 left, I double up through a guy with AKo AIPF. Double up later through the guy to my left who's been running insanely well (ended the night up 2G+) and also playing well with AQo. I get lucky with QQ vs KK AIPF (only for $100) followed by a tilted guy who called in which I catch a Q OTF. Called down a bluff on a very draw heavy board with QTo on a T high board (top pair is all you need in Texas).

Last big hand I got lucky again. 300bb deep, I reraise the PFR from $60 to $180 multiway with an A high flush draw. He shoves with an overpair of QQ and I'm forced to call. We run it twice and I somehow manage to bink both of them. Table breaks and I end the night +$1215. Did well, but my god I've had over 40 pocket pairs this trip and only hit 3 sets???

Overall I'm really loving Austin so far and meeting some great people.

Pretty much back to where we started lol.

Meh, +$99 today. Got to Shuffle 512 around 4, and early on I scoop a double board bomb pot where I turned the nut straight + 2p on board 1 and had 2p on board 2. OTR my board 1 2p turns into a boat and I scoop. Villain had been playing the same nut straight and got freerolled, then continued to berate me for how lucky I am for hitting my 1 outter when he would've gotten quartered. Overall I ran pretty dead in holdem, but went on to scoop 2 more decent bomb pots and had about $750 in front of me.

After bluffing into a TAG with aces OTT, I slowly chipped down the rest of the session. Decided to leave while I was ahead.

Q3o. 82o. 82s. j5o. Another day of running cold at Shuffle 512. Garbage pre, 5 pocket pairs missing, missing multiway, bluffing into the stations with bottom pair and I got nada. The few times I had something worth 3 betting like 9s, I'd get 4 bet shoved on. I can't even remember a hand that's worth mentioning.

A few times people would look at me as if to say "what? you only play aces?" because it was a literal fold fest for me. A part of me wants to reply "you never seen a man running like aids before?" "This game's too loose and you're limp calling q7o, I don't need to play desperate". Honestly I didn't find it tilting considering I did pretty well a few nights ago, but I pray to the rng gods to help me out of this $4k level. Decided to just play out the time I bought and left -$190.

On a more positive note, I had forgot to mention I'm searching for some of the best local cuisine wherever I go. I've heard Texas is known for Tex-Mex, Hamburgers, Chili, BBQ, and Pecan Pie so I'm trying to find the best of each (If you have any recommendations let me know). Right now I'm on a quest for the best burger and today I tried Salt and Time which was amazing. It was almost as if they salt and peppered the fries individually to perfection and I got the burger medium rare which came thick and juicy. I also don't recommend "trying" it with the fried egg, it's mandatory. Also I'm not a ketchup with my fries kind of person, but the house made ketchup was really unique. I want to say it's a tomato base with vinegar, but not sure.

SPOILER ALERT: I'm off the wagon. I'm having 1-2 beers with dinner (for now at least) and trying to keep it under control. As an FYI I'm not a beer snob or even that picky (what true, trashy alcoholic is?). I mention it because I tried a Kolsh (don't remember the name exactly) and felt like it paired perfectly with the burger making the whole thing pretty decadent. In the future I'd like to check out local breweries so if you have any recommendations for ones to visit, I'd gladly appreciate it.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, I need to update the travel plan and once I do some research on those areas I'll post it.

Honestly, it's the closest one to where I'm staying with decent reviews. Talking with some of the players there, apparently they have better value per hour vs TCH, but I'm still planning on going to TCH and the Lodge.

Haven't posted in a bit since I haven't been doing too hot and my grandmother passed away. I haven't seen her in awhile, but I was really closed to her as a kid so it's been a kinda rough. I'm gonna be taking a detour to NJ for her funeral then double back to the places I missed.

I only played two sessions the past two weeks and ended up -$600 which was discouraging. What's really hit home is that I'm just not playing well. I'm fearful at the table which has gotten me to fold what's likely the best hand too often and then overplaying my mediocre hands when they have it. Some of the hands I might not even post because it's ****ing embarrassing. Despite enjoying decadent meals and doing w/e the hell I want, my fear is usually a clear sign of bad health. I haven't really worked out or had a salad this entire time. I refuse to get on a scale, but I've definitely gained some weight on this trip, so I'll pray to the poker gods to give me strength to hit the gym. Oh yeah and one of those sessions was Omaha.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I said I wouldn't play anything other than Holdem, but Omaha is just so juicy. Even online it feels like players still don't know how to play. I added some money to Bovada (which I haven't touched in awhile) and ran $200 up to $500 so I wanna dabble in it when I'm in the mood.

8/15: My sleeping schedule's completely off and I wake up around 8pm and get to The Lodge around 9. Playing 1-3 NLHE and the cold run continues for about 2 hours until I hit a few hands and eventually double up somehow (forget your winners, remember your losses as they say). Get into a hand with your average Texas player and make a bad fold.

QJ on a Jxx board 4 ways. PFR x'd to me in LP and I bet half pot. Average Texas player check raises me 2.5x which I call. Turn is a blank and he fires again for 2/3 pot. After tanking a bit I fold and he shows a J. I nod, telling myself I folded a pair of 9s and it was a good fold. J4 is definitely in his range.

Managed to throw away most of what I'd won until I'm back at around $300. We get to the double board bomb pot and the button says he wants to play Pineapple. I've never played pineapple and say I want to stay out, but peer pressure gives in as everyone says "ah come on play". Dumbass I am, I quickly accept.

I have T83. Top board is 884, bottom has nothing for me. Being the professional Pineapple player I am, I pot it 3 streets into the guy whose got 84 for the flopped boat + a pair of 4s on the bottom and scoops me. Biggest reason I really shouldn't have played this or even played it so hard was the 3 cards screwed with my wiring. I was thinking irrationally that it was Holdem, but we get to start like Omaha? Things just didn't click in my head and I should've stayed away.

8/19: After a few Omaha sessions online, I realize how much I was born for this game and decide to take it to the streets. Back at The Lodge and we get into a 1-2-5 game which plays WAY bigger than I wanted. Most have around 2k+ in front of them and the 3 bets are 25% of my stack (I only brought 300). I impatiently watch for the 1-3 game waitlist which won't start (it never did) and continue the "fold pre" session.

I get 6789 with two cards 1 suit and know I have to play. Guy towards my left is on a very clear tilt rampage 3betting every hand pre, bluffing every hand post + calling all ins with nothing while he readies another 2k to put on the table. He had the unfazed look of a man whose about to calmly leave the table, then blow up a kindergarten.

I make it 20 UTG followed by him 3 betting to around 75. Everyone behind him calls and we see the flop. A93r. With around 7 players in the hand and a third of my chips in the pot I get a sinking feeling. Somehow it's x'd all around. Turn is another A. Still done with the hand it's x'd all around again?? River is a 9 giving me trips. I x knowing it's very unlikely someone's got an ace at this point, but there's the potential that if they do, they have a weak kicker, or was hoping the tilt guy would bluff at it. He does of course and pots it. Folded to an asian guy to my right whose been playing really well imo. Previous hand he made a sick call with 2p on a straight and flush board. It wasn't ur donkey call either, there was some definite soul reading involved. After tanking for a bit he calls. Based on the previous hand and his time tanking, he obviously didn't have an Ace or would've probably reraised the Tilt guy. Everything screamed thin call so was pretty easy to put my chips in and overcall. Tilt guy instantly mucks and Asian guy showed pocket Kings.

A few hours later still playing tight, I get TTJJ with one suit. Asian lady to my right hasn't been in many hands so don't have much of a read on her. I raise pre followed by her and another caller.

Flop comes Txx with a club flush draw. I make it 2/3 pot followed by 2 calls. Turn is a blank which I pot. One fold, Asian lady calls. River completes the flush draw and she x's so I x back and she shows a K high flush. She shouldn't have called the turn pot bet, but oh well, I'm back to around $400.

Asian lady again and we're limped to in the BB with 6788. I like to only raise pre for value and maybe I'm a nit, but 6788 doesn't seem to warrant it. At best I'm hoping for middle set and don't have a wrap for straights (tell me what you think). Flop comes 8TT and she comes out firing pot. I flat and we get one caller. Turn is a 3 and she pots again. Although she can have T3, I think the combo's unlikely and doesn't have much playability so I think it's a good time to gii. Imo I block T8 + I doubted she would feel the need to play T8 or TT this hard.

I pot it and she shows T8. Would love to know thoughts on this hand, imo me getting it in was standard since she's going to have a lot of Tx hands that want protection given her action. That wraps it up for my recent sessions, will likely try again tomorrow.

Other than that I've been enjoying Austin's food and nightlife. Most of it's been me drunk and embarrassing myself in front of college kids which I won't bore you with the details lol. Also if you're ever in the mood for tacos at 2am, I highly recommend a Tasty Bastard (god I love that name) with a corn tortilla from Tyson's Tacos along with their chips and queso.

Anyone here play the markets? Got my SPY puts in last week and printing money like my man JPOW.

Might do a round 2. My burger quest kinda came to a halt since lot of recommended places were very meh, but there's this dry aged wagyu burger at Odd Duck that I'm looking forward to.

Well they went on a spending spree on the same day so I doubt it got lost while at the same time being essentially roofied (like I said I always remember the night before if it was just alcohol).

+ $554 last night. Got into Nola 9/4 and settled in for a day before checking out Harrah's. I've been pretty obsessed with the stock market (got several SPY puts going) so I've been distracted + I got some other work related things going on so wasn't feeling Poker. The rest of my time in Texas was mostly going out to eat, seeing the sites, and of course... Drinking. There's a ton of food trucks around and what I really find interesting is how prevalent Mediterranean food is around there. All of them knew how to cook + (properly) spice basmati rice and man, it was ****ing decadent. I also tried some Pho there (which was also really good) and they had way more beef in it than usual. It makes sense though because of how much beef is exported from Texas, it must positively impact all the ethnic food using it. Anyway I gained a few pounds and need to hit the gym.

Nola has been great so far. Some of the buildings (even in the nice areas) are a bit run down, but the food's amazing and the people are very friendly just like you'd expect them to be with some Southern charm. Currently trying different restaurants and will post some reviews later on. I had a Po'boy at this local place which was amazing, but I want to try others before making any judgements. Oddly enough, it tasted like a really good Cubano (which is the king of sandwiches imo).

My god is poker easy in this town. Lots of limps pre (willing to call extremely high bets like $25 in a 1-3 after limping in). Then they're also willing to x it down to the river for you unless you hit something and want to call with complete dogshit. Keep in mind this is just my assessment from a game on a Tuesday night, but this is supposed to be when the are "regs" are playing. Midway through the session I had a MAWG talking to me about how he makes a one and a half hour drive just to play at these tables because the action's so soft. For once in my life I actually felt bad playing because everything became so obvious. Bet if they have something, X if they don't. If they call it's likely a runner runner gutshot they're drawing to and between them battling each other , stupid hands like q7o with a KQ on the board win. One guy came in and played like he was from Texas which actually got me off a few hands. Flop is 347 and he instantly 2x pot bet, and shoves the turn when he's got a 3 with no other equity. After he (of course) lost his stack to other people, I decided to pickup with $854 in front.

Tbh there's no hands to really share because all of them feel pretty standard. I only stacked one guy with a set of KK vs 2 pair, but other than that I just cbet for value and got called. I called a guy with 66 on a T7344 board because I knew he literally had nothing 5 ways. I only had to bluff one time after 3betting pre with AKs, but I could smell the guy's fear from a mile away. What's really interesting about the KK hand vs 2 pair hand though was that the next hand, the same guy gets it in (he's a short stacker) and loses once again to a set of kings on an almost identical board.

What was really weird/interesting to see along the road to Nola were these micro casinos. I got into one in the middle of nowhere along the highway and it just had a few video poker and slot machines. You could tell there were regulars in remorse about their luck, but it was so surreal and weird. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures inside, but it was about the size of a small classroom. Why this is a thing? Who the hell knows.

I forgot to take a pic of my stack :P

+$299 last night. This place reminds of Ohio back when I used to play more. Loose action pre, passive post, bluffs are extremely obvious, and when they got it its easy to spot. The ideal opponent. I quit early (only a 3 hour session) because I got complacent and started just limping in with the rest of them even though I was doing great just playing moderately aggro pre and post. I also didn't bluff some spots where I should have because I would've gotten away with it vs these guys (4 clubs on the river after a flop bet called 3 ways, then x'd to the river and I'm OTB and didn't pull the trigger) so was a bit disappointed with myself. I also missed a bit of value. Here's a few hands:

5 way pot that ballooned with a raise, then a shove for $25 all in from one of the shorties and I was already in it for $10 with T8cc OTB. Flop comes 67Q with 2 clubs giving me a flush draw + gutshot. Guy from ep shoves for $80, folds to me and I call. Miss my gutter and flush draw.

A few hands later I get JJ in the SB and we're playing with a $6 straddle OTB so I have to act first. I make it 20 to go and get called 4 ways. LP has been a bit of a monkey donk cbetting multiway when he shouldn't, and usually over committing himself. Along with that he's just made some terrible calls. Flop comes 999 and I down bet the flop for $30. Folds to LP who pops it to $100 followed by a fold from the button. Donkey or not, it's unlikely he's actually gonna be reraising with a 9 so I'm pretty confident he's got a lower pair and once again decided to overplay it. I reshove for around $200 and he shakes his head for awhile and calls. He never shows and I take it down.

Usually I don't straddle on the button, but in this game, there was barely any raises pre (only me and the monkey were really raising pre). Everyone had been straddling and getting to mostly x their button so I figured I'd join in. We go 7 ways and I have 96o and x it back. Flop is Q94r and we X through the flop. Turn is a 7d making backdoor diamond draw. Monkey bets which is called by Monkey #2 to his left who's a bit of a station. Monkey #1 has been making some bad bluffs quite a bit and #2 likes to call with **** so I'm sure my 9's good here. I call with the intention of calling most rivers. Anyway they x and I x back and take it down.

Aside from these hands it was mostly just me raising pre and getting folds otf or value betting.

My graph looks like ****, I've just been going back and forth lol. The massive runup was from a few session in Vegas and The Bike in LA.

Small sample size, but kind of interesting to see.

+$631 yesterday, -$300 today. I've been spending most of my time around the French Quarter during the day and hitting the tables mid to late afternoon since it's all in walking distance. Oysters are everywhere here too and it's ****ing heaven. I noticed during yesterdays session I was jittery and laser focused after having some, Bienville and Rockefeller style. These were cooked too so I assume there's no alcohol in them, but I feel so invigorated afterwards. I played pretty well imo + was running hot so note to self: if you can, eat oysters before playing.

Here's a few hands:

9/11:

As soon as I get to the table I notice everyone's got around 300 or less in front except for one guy with around $1700. Kid looks like he's in his 20s and I assume off the bat he probably plays online, will 3 bet fairly often, and will put me in some tough spots. Let's call him "Internet".

First few hands in orbit and I'm dealt AKs and pop it to $15 UTG (I usually make it $10 at 1-3, but will adjust my sizing to what the table is usually doing if I can get the value in pre). 2 callers and a raise from Internet who makes it $50 from the SB. I 4b to $150 followed by folds and a tank fold from Internet who complains about jacks and not knowing me.

I'm dealt QQ and 3b Internet who I believe makes a stubborn call and folds to a flop cbet.

I'm dealt QQ again later in the session and raise it to $20 pre and we go 5 ways with internet on board. Flop comes Q63r. I x from EP and it's x'd all around. Turn is a 2 and Internet downbets for $25. I feel like I monopolize the board and only call, but probably should have raised. Folds to the river. A OTR and Internet goes for almost pot $125. In previous hands he was in, he played rivers fairly face up in terms of strength so I knew he had strong value here. I also believe he might've donked into me otf with an open ender if he had 45, but I could be wrong on this. Anyway I push and he snap calls showing a set of 66s getting set over set. After the hand he leaves pretty upset. I only mention "Internet" because I think it's interesting how in some sessions, people just have the cards to look like they have it out for you when they don't. This time it was just me getting lucky. If you're out there "Internet" I think you played well for the most part.

I didn't double up through anyone else the rest of the night. Most of it was just chipping up in medium pots where people shouldn't have been betting into/calling me. At one point I had around $1100 in front, but gave some of it away at the end.

9/12:

Today was pretty boring. First 2 hours I didn't catch many hands and either won or lost small pots. Last hand was very questionable play though imo.

No real clue about villain. He's old, but not an OMC type. Overall he just seems like a casual. I'm in the BB and Villain limps in for 3 followed by 2 other guys with folds to me holding QQ. I make it $25 to go. Villain quickly calls followed by the guy to his left and the 4th folds. $75 in the middle and the flop is J55. I make it $50 and villain calls, 3rd folds. I'm putting villain on Jx for the most part, sometimes overpairs, and sometimes 5x, A5s? Considering the avg population here I wouldn't be surprised if he's got like j9o so I'm willing to roll the dice and make it $100 OTT after a blank. Villain instantly shoves and I know I'm dead with only $100 behind. Just by watching the quickness of his shove and his body language I know I'm dead, but a little voice in my head reminds me about Texas and how they'd think AJ here is the absolute nuts that their slowplaying. Realistically I think there's a small chance he'd have a J and play it like this and I do a sigh w/e call. He flip his hand before we even see a turn and it's 53o.

I'd shake my head if it was suited, but off suit is just insulting.

Oysters Rockafeller are alright, but Bienville are ****ing amazing. Its got cheese and shrimp on top which makes for a beautiful combo.

We briefly touched the 5k mark!

Are these lobster tail prices low? I can't tell, never bought lobster tail.

nice update. I suppose I should reveal that, not only do I live in Nola, but I am "Internet"!

Just joking. I do live in Nola, though. Glad to see you're enjoying the action and the new room. I've only been a few times, but it seems like most folks are enjoying it.

A few FQ/Harrahdise tips:

Ernst Cafe: absurdly cheap beers a few blocks from the casino
Frenchmen Street for live music
Cosimos and Buffa's for decent bar food and more of a local's vibe

Death. Pure death.

9/16: -$300 in an hour and a half. Didn't win a hand and had no equity every time. As limp dick a session you can get.

9/18: -$176. Started off well with first hand QQ, but after that made a bad fold 3 ways with AK vs KQ and KQ on KJxxx board. One thing I used to ham on about was momentum and when you make a bad decision, the bad juju follows you (reverse is also true). Today felt like that. Ran pretty dead for 4 and a half hours just slowly grinding down to $125. The only hand worth mentioning was I got it in 3 ways on a TJAxx board and all of us had KQ. What are the odds? Also I'm now officially 5/6 wins for table changes so that streak is over. The table I changed to had THE most obnoxious talker I've run into. What made it worse was that he was winning huge (sat with like 500 and when I left he had around 3k). Dude was drinking, but didn't seem that drunk. Every hand though, he'd ask the dealer "who bet?" "How much is in the pot?". When he wasn't asking questions, he'd be gushing with his butt buddy neighbors who also liked to talk. What really triggered me was when he wasn't in pots and people went all in. He'd get up to watch the tiny $200 pot and start calling out what people had WHEN THE ACTION WAS STILL GOING. Eventually I just got up and put it all on roulette numbers (which I never do). They didn't hit.

Luckily I've been doing pretty well in the markets (mostly spy puts) which more than pay for the downturn so I'm okay with it. I've also been drinking too much lately so going to try and sober up for a week? Hopefully I can go that long, jeeze.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying to tone down the drinking, but I'll check out Frenchman Street and Cosimos before I leave. Honestly I don't even know why I really mentioned the kid lol. How are you liking the action at the tables? You playing?

There are lots of things to do that don't involve drinking, although life in the Quarter may suggest otherwise. Crescent City Park is a quick walk from Frenchmen. You'll get a nice view of the river and downtown.

I haven't been able to log much time at the new room, unfortunately, but I've played a few short sessions and the space seems really nice, if a bit loud. There's a donkament series coming to town this Thursday, so the action might be even better during the next two weeks.
