Re: Supernova Elite by November 28th

Another good day at the virtual felt. Broke around even, enjoyed the rakeback as profit, and made 9.4k VPPs. It was a pretty solid grind playing over 600 SNGs in the day, all turbos, but I also made sure to finish at a reasonable time so I can wake up tomorrow sharpish. Aim is that tomorrow will be the biggest VPP day of the week so far probably, since it's a non-workout day and I intend to sleep less than 11 hours.

50k VPPs to SNE, and I have half an eye on finishing it off after a massive funday sunday. That's gonna require 12.5k/day which means no pussy days along the way. Time to really get down to business and bring it home!!

Overslept 2 hours but not 5 today, also wanted to ninja edit before anyone points out Boku's challenge was $100-$10k, not $100-$20k!

Re: Supernova Elite by November 28th

Today I woke up around 2 hours later than planned and also needed to take a nap at lunchtime. I'm finding most days when I get up in the morning I'm needing to lie down and chill, take a nap for an hour or so then resume an afternoon sesh after lunch. Today I needed two hours to revive, so it's definitely catching up!

Still managed to put in a pretty enormous day, racking up 13.3k VPPs! Sadly I've really pissed off the poker gods as I ran another $3k below EV today. I've really felt like it's been near enough non-stop butchery for the last two months, so I decided to check how much below EV I am for the last 60 days - $32k!! Pretty sickening but what can ya do. This is despite the inordinate amount of volume I'm putting in. The trick is over the same time period, I've played just under 3k $200+ BI games, and there I've ran $24k below EV, explaining the majority of the $ variance. Despite this it should be an eye-opener for anyone reading that over a nearly 23,000 game sample you can suffer variance of this magnitude. With an average buy-in of $83.91 over the sample, that represents 381 average buy-ins, so make sure you are adequately rolled for whatever grind you play!!

Today by the point I'd lost $6k mostly non-stop, I really felt terrible. That awful wrenching feeling inside, pretty much despair since you wonder when are you going to get respite after such a non-stop battering. But one thing I did know is I couldn't afford to stop, no matter what. I need the VPPs and today needed to be a big day. I managed to keep going, and on reflection the fact that things were as bad as they could possibly be probably ensured I definitely did reach my volume target.

This might sound pretty backwards thinking, but since I psychologically felt I had nothing more to lose, the only thing I could gain was making my volume goal. I also knew I really needed to make sure I didn't tilt at all, since there's so much money on the line every second. Somehow I just needed to keep playing, maximize volume and aim to play faultless. One thing I did to help was unregister from my highest variance/lowest edge games the high stakes 9-mans. I've bricked 22 out of my last 23 $300 games, for a loss of $6.4k, really really sick. Now if we were talking in terms of 180-man sngs, bricking 20 odd in a row is completely standard. For STTs it is far more rare, and to happen on your highest stake games definitely sucks. But fact of the matter is it can happen, and you can't let it affect you. Or to put it another way, if you know it is affecting you, just leave them out for a while.

By the end of the session I pulled back ~$1300, and a lot more in EV. The satisfying thing was that my EV for the day was only about -$300, which is very reassuring on such a horrible day. At one point it was way in negative, and had things ended that way I'd be very concerned. So by continuing on, the starting goal was accomplished, and I can go to sleep knowing I didn't chuck a ton of equity down the drain.

36.5k VPPs left...

You have same problem as me. Always aim to get up at 9am but normally ends up being 12:30, seems I cant function without 9hrs of sleep.

Well played on keeping playing today even when getting raped, thats the difference.

Re: Supernova Elite by November 28th

So you are doing this over 4 months, was it?

So if you were gonna spread it out over the whole 12 months, what games
would u play and how many per day?

Obv you wouldnt need to be playing 600 games at 12kvpp per day!

just 200 games at 4kvpp per day

Great you push on while losing so much, I myself am currently also in a pretty heavy DS and it's so hard to get in more games when every session is so dissapointing!

I hope Ill get my mindset on track for next year, when I cant afford to move down as I'm doing now..

Yeah that sounds almost identical, usually 8 hrs does it for me, but if I do a mean workout and grind hard late at night, that's when it starts getting ridiculous! I've been trying really hard to do 7 hrs but to no avail. That said, I did notice when I'm able to go to bed at say 10.30/11pm, suddenly 7 hours sleep is ok. I definitely think sleeping pattern determines quantity:quality ratio.

Cheers, yep exactly...as long as it doesn't become spew!

Haha yeah bud there's no way I'd need to do it like this haha, as haagel jokingly suggested could actually be about right. Tbh, I wouldn't need much of a playing schedule at all. With the ability to go at triple pace, for the most part I could just play whatever I feel like, for as long as feels good. I'll be looking to mix it up and make sure it stays fun, so I can look forward to gettin on the tables rather than making it a burden. I expect to play more HUSNG next year and also the occasional high stakes MTT/series. Probably also make plans to play some EPT circuit wherever the best parties at

Yeah man it's really really tough. Since I know I absolutely have to get this volume in before I go abroad next week, it helps. It's like gettin told to do the washing up, there's no way you wanna do it, but if it's gonna save a pointless argument instead, you might as well go and get it done. I think when you can afford to, moving down is good, especially on the games we're grinding, the 9-mans at $100+ buy-in are really getting sick. For example tonight the $300 9-man loading had 9 regs in it lol, sick value! Obv I didn't reg for it (I promise I do table select a bit even atm )

GL for gettin through your DS and for next year man

Re: Supernova Elite by November 28th

Today was yesterday. Made 13.4k VPPs and ran $3400 below EV lol. Not really much more to say than that really, identical to yesterday I managed to claw back my equity so that it was positive after rb a reasonable amount.

I tried all kinds of mind games in my head to try and write a positive spin about this for the blog, since I want to always offer a positive outlook for everyone reading rather than a sob story. After countless failed efforts to do this, I finally came up with one....

Ultimately, I think staying partially detached from your success [and failure] is the key. I am incredibly lucky that I have the ability and resources to do what I'm doing. Whether or not I ever make another dime is irrelevant to this fact, I've already been incredibly lucky and that will never change. Secondly, as long as I am playing as well as I possibly can, and this is demonstrated by generating good positive expectation, this should also detach me from the external factor of my end results. Asides from this there are two reasons why it is still upsetting to have such a bad run: #1 I want to always show great results for my students to look up to, and for anyone following and sharing my pursuit. If my results suck I fail to do this. #2 if I wanna have a shot at applying for Team Online, experiencing a doomswitch as severe as this has to not help that cause. To be honest Team Online is my ultimate goal on this pursuit, a lot more than even SNE. I'm not sure whether their criteria for profitability would weigh more heavily on pre or post rb profit. If it's the former, I'm 100% screwed, but if it's the latter I'm actually in very decent shape still.

Anyways, this thread has missed a garph, so here's a juicy one for the last 10 days!!

I really like your positive attitude towards the grind you are going through atm, even though you're going through a rough stretch. You sound like a wise (mindset) coach.

I am really amazed that nothing seems to stop you! Saw you a couple of times on my tables in the last few days, masstabling all the time!! Massive respect to you that you repeatedly can get your mind up for it.

For how long are you doing this anyway? Have you slowly built it up (in regard of amount of tables combined with many straight hours) or did you decide to just go for it?

I'm already having motivational issues to deliver volume after grinding for one week.. any tips/tricks about (mental) energy that have helped you out to just keep going and going?

Haha thanks! Believe me in the last few days I had this excruciating urge to quit every nighttime session I played, really it was agonizing at some times. This was mostly down to three things: #1 my new gym programme is pretty brutal, so when I sit for long periods quite tensed up with constant action, it has been extremely painful at times. Yesterday I used some heat spray to ease it. #2 fatigue, and #3 the results variance mixed with the combination of intensity and monotony of this grind. I've been watching talks on TED on my second monitor for lots of the grind, probably seen most of the videos now! This has helped with #3 considerably. For #2 I just had to suck it up really, once you push a limit, you suddenly have a new limit which can go further. So once I had pushed 12-16K VPP days, the limit was suddenly more than I needed. I think this is a good metaphor for the chase that I've almost completed, compared to things in the future I'll be doing which will now be well within my limits.

So to summarize a few key things:

.Increase your limits incrementally (same principle for increasing your multi-tabling capacity and session lengths). I remember when I first learned super/hyper turbo games. I went from generally ~25 tabling turbo games, to ONE tabling those ones. This was at the back end of last year, then I just added table by table up until 16+ was possible. You gotta be willing to go slower during the "method" process to maximize the "madness" outcome. Think of the Karate Kid

.To improve motivation, a few things are really important. Firstly, you gotta attach yourself to things within your control, and detach yourself to things outside your control. If you attach yourself to your results, you won't be in control of your emotional state since an uncontrollable externality is determining your state of mind. Therefore you need...

.Goals: without a goal in your mind, you will have no end purpose you are aiming towards. That way, it's hard to subconsciously feel like you are making positive progress. If on the other hand you know your goal is to play 6 hours in the day, and you know this will be 2*3 hour sessions, then suddenly you have a goal that you can attach yourself to, that is within your control.

.Reward/Punishment: To positively/negatively reinforce achieving/failing the goal, you need to reward or punish yourself. If you don't do this, then the goal won't have any real immediate consequences. So a while ago I talked about treating myself when I succeed in a goal, or if I fail in a goal I'll impose silly punishments such as shorter lunch break, having to do push-ups to failure each morning, shorter showers, just anything you'd hate doing.

Ultimately I think we generally attach ourselves to factors outside our control, with no goals, and no repercussions for succeeding/failing in what we are setting out to achieve. If we fix these three core aspects, we'll have a better shot at success [and a success which is personal to us, not a "cultural success" we are made to believe is "success"].

Hope this helps!
