Another good day. Felt like a wreck when I got up, basically underslept by about 3 hours and couldn't get back to sleep. Sleeping pattern is of paramount importance when pushing yourself mentally or physically for prolonged periods without a proper break away. I'm really envious of friends who can just sleep a few hours and get through the day fine. I've realized more and more over the years that for me, anything less than 7 hours sleep and I should apologize to everyone who has to spend time with me that day.

So today I semi-deliberately/accidentally slept most of the afternoon. You know when you know you feel tired, wanna just lie down to have a rest, know you're gonna fall asleep like everytime you do this epic thing and pretend you won't. But you do

Turned out to be fantastic, woke up feeling refreshed, spent a few hours doing some other stuff and started grinding later than planned, but knowing I could put a decent effort in. ~6.5k VPPs for the day so a couple k below pace, but yesterday was a couple k above so I'll take that. Mondays also just suck in general so felt decent.

Did fine at the tables, had a pretty horrendous morning sesh just playing hypers for a little over an hour, ran below ev, had bad card distribution but more importantly managed to misclick fold most of my premiums. It was a bit of a dilemma as to which of these happened:

A) Too tired to be as alert as required to make such quick decisions.
B) Volume was ridiculously good for that time of day on a Monday, making me load far more tables than would be comfortable to handle.

I'm opting for A)B), so will use a policy where I'm not registering in such a way that I could potentially find myself suddenly playing 4-20 more tables than I anticipated/would desire. I'll also mass tabling on little sleep.

Since making the new grind plan I've won each day after rb, and equity after rb has been positive each one. Two days miles above ev, two days pretty close to it, and psychologically they all felt pretty much identical, after all winning is WINNING right?

246.5k VPPs to earn in 28 days, will now be adjusting my mindset to hopefully help achieve this goal without letting the demands pile up. My method for doing this is creating and maintaining a belief system that any day I make <9K is now to be considered a failure (other than Thursday coaching day and Saturday social day). This belief system is created through awareness of the fact that <9K won't cut the cheese, and voluntarily enforcing penalties on myself for not meeting the target. One example could be deliberately cutting my lunch break in half the succeeding day.

Oh btw tl;dr

Today went well, another day running above EV and profit after rb. That's 5 in 5 I think so pretty awesome. My $EV was negative after rb but only marginally in BIs, can easily be card distribution but also think I need to tweak my play just a little. It's strange how you can unconsciously slip into making slightly different decisions in marginal spots gradually until after a few days you're some way from the ballpark you were in some days previous. Both downswings and upswings can encourage us to either force play or nit up too much. In other news I crushed a small set of the hypers due to fantastic card distribution.

VPPs for day: 6.8k, 2k less than the target due to doing Salsa in the evening (lol/pretty cool). Nevertheless, I need to enforce a penalty for not meeting the target, since by this point small deficits will build up incredibly quickly. I'll probably kill myself with nonstop pushups/curls/situps until I collapse straight after I wake up.

Tomorrow is a clear schedule so I will meet or exceed the 9k target.

Today I came, I saw, I conquered, and I lost quite a lot of money in the process.

VPP Count: 9665

And for jdawg's benefit here's a garph that will hopefully remove the need to be overly verbose. I think it's a really good illustration of what to feel comfortable with in poker. It's definitely days like these which will be to credit for me reaching my ambitious goal, since at the point I start losing $5k vertically, it's easy to say "ok here's the doomswitch, time to stop playing and wait for it to be de-activated". Instead I try to say to myself, the more I can keep going, the more games I'm managing to play, the more money I'm generating on profit/game. I also use it as an excuse to have heightened awareness at the tables and give a better effort than when winning was automatic due to God mode. It may also be the catalyst for me to identify leaks in my game which are otherwise concealed when we're running good and assume we're playing like superstars.

Had a good day today. Made 8k VPPs which was awesome since it was a coaching day, and at the tables ran very well.

It's hard grinding day in day out with maximum intensity, even though I'm getting near to the end it only gets tougher each day. The good news is I'm finding ways to put in good volume even when I miss hours of grind time in the non-existent morning and afternoon. So if I do get behind pace, there are ways (spare hours) to grind the deficit. Tomorrow I really do need to try and get maximum play in morning/afternoon since gonna go out in the evening. Saturday is the Supernova $1M Freeroll so I'll have an excuse to grind hard Saturday evening for a change.

Vamos!

Thanks man, all we can try and do is learn. You have no idea how difficult it was trying to hold things together when I was downswinging bad. Even though I have a few interesting ideas to handle it, doesn't mean I always do manage to handle it! :P

Ty, I haven't actually read many psychology books at all, unless you count The Game haha. More seriously, I studied some areas of psychology at university, but my major was in International Business so these were peripheral areas to the main subject. I did a really fascinating course in Neuromarketing which looked at the practical application/implications of neuroscience on marketing and psychology. In consumer/organizational behaviour courses some basic psychology was also covered, and during study I would check out some further material to delve a bit deeper. In another course basic Game Theory was discussed, and once again this was really fascinating to think about and develop some original ideas to apply to poker. From TV I was hooked on Derren Brown's programmes and also read one of his books, which offered more super interesting stuff. So basically learning came from a variety of different places in bits and pieces that I hope to steal and apply for poker and life as a whole.

VPPs earned today: 3.3k

Today I fell wayy short of the daily target. Had a lot of things to sort out away from the tables, and then in the evening went out for dinner followed by drinks. Unlike last month when the night finished with absynthe, tonight I started with orange juice and ended with a cappuccino. I've decided to give up drinking completely, even though I am a very casual/occasional drinker anyway. This is certainly up until the SNE chase is over, but even after it I'm not sure if I'll stick to tee-total or just a lil bit. Also for the SNE chase I deliberately avoided caffeine as much as possible, instead drinking as much water as possible. This is with the intention of training my body/mind to push hard in the absence of an artificial stimulant. It also hydrates rather than dehydrates, so over long grind times is productive whereas coffee is in fact counter productive.

I was at just over 2k VPPs when I got home at 1.30am, then forced myself to grind just under a couple hours to get the extra 1.3k VPPs. So around 5.5k below pace today, aim is to earn 23K VPPs on Sat+Sun, which is a pretty big effort but doable. That would make back 4k VPP extra, leaving me only a couple k short on pace overall. Oh and at the tables things were pretty good, generated really good equity but ran a fair bit below EV, no damage done though.

Highlight of the day was "generating over -$200 EV" on a $100 buy-in tournament, see I found something I can do that Chuck Norris cannot!

Time to sleep then crush!

Note the last red line decrease vs the last green line increase, kinda impossible when actual maximum loss is $100. An example of a limitation of red line equity model.

Just played a big sesh. Fantastic almost at 9k VPP for the day and havent even started my last sesh yet, just gotta hope traffic stays great.

Was pretty frustrated with about 15 mins left in the sesh, $3k below EV, couldn't wait to be finished. Then ran hotter than hot to almost breakeven before rb. Perfect pick up to hammer a solid final sesh. Dinner then SMASH, should be well on course to hit the weekends' target. Weird how I still ran over $1k below EV but feel like I've had a +$3k sesh

Finished up well, pretty much an ideal day. Grinded nearly 500 SNGs without any hypers, made just shy of $2k after rb and 12.9k VPPs. Twice it felt like doomswitch mode was kicking in but each time followed by a nice heater. That doesn't always happen!!

Tomorrow I'll pass 800K VPPs, leaving around 22 days to make ~195K more, maybe a tad less if I can put in a heavy sesh tomo too. That's pretty much spot on the pace needed at the start of the month. Midweek is super tough as traffic has been really poor at times, so it definitely looks like weekends are the time to cash in. I can probably get license to do that for the next 3 weeks without fear of castration
