Decided to make one of these threads finally after reaching the all-time low point of my poker playing career. I'm possibly the worst tilter I know, which is ironic because I'm pretty mellow IRL. Well a few weeks ago I punched my monitor and broke it, so I withdrew most of my roll to buy a new one I've played up to NL200 before in the past, but this was back in like 2009. Below is my lifetime uNL graph:

I do pretty well at most stakes except for NL5 regular 6max, which is the worst stake in the f world Besides NL5 I get a WR of about 10bb/100, although I only have 20k hands of NL10 (at 7bb/100).

I really enjoy poker though and I wanna work on my mindset, so I deposited $50 and decided to grind up from the bottom again. I've played like 60k hands of ZOOM since and I'm now at exactly $200. BRM will be 30-25 with occasional withdrawals.

My goals therefore are very simple:
[ ] STOP F BREAKING THINGS ON TILT
[ ] Get back up to NL50
[ ] 30k+ hands/month

No specific monetary goals. I'll use this to keep track, vent, hopefully get some advice and post hands of interest. Playing mostly on Stars, sometimes on FTP when I'm at a lecture and occasionally I mix in MTTs on iPoker or Ongame. MTT grinds are pretty rare for me nowadays though. I'm up around 2.5k lifetime in MTTs I'd guess. Let's do this.

Played one quick session of NL5 zoom to test out my new HUD and ran pretty good. PT3 missed a few hands, but I won $14 in the session.

BR: $214

On another note, thinking about using the rest of my old roll to buy PT4, thoughts anyone?

Pretty dumb day today, just lost a few flips and got KK/QQ vs AA against 50bb stacks 3 times. Mindset was pretty terrible today and I probably played like crap as well, will need to take a look at it tomorrow. Was down $30 including MTT losses. Then got back to even in cash and won $18 in some $1 donkament.

Giraffe:

Mostly NL5, some NL2 mixed in. Was 8 tabling zoom for a while but my monitor is too small to tile them neatly, so I either have to overlap or stack. Not sure what I like better. Hopefully I'll get in better volume these next days and maybe some rungood too

Been mixing it up a lot lately, played 12 tables of zoom (NL2-10) for some time but it's beyond my abilities to deal with 3 different stakes at the same time at zoom Also mixed in some regular tables at one point.
NL5 and I are just not meant to be I guess. Running so f bad at this stake. Last couple of days I've just been getting raped by PS with a bunch of set over set in 3bet pots, terrible board runouts etc. Graph since the thread started with all the lines:

The fact that it's 6 BI below AIEV is mostly due to just not winning any flips, but what's much more annoying is pots like this vs a 74/22 whale:

PokerStars - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BTN: $4.95
Hero (SB): $5.00
BB: $6.43
UTG: $7.55
MP: $6.07
CO: $14.73

Hero posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero has K K

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to $0.15, Hero raises to $0.50, fold, BTN calls $0.35

Flop: ($1.05, 2 players) 7 4 8
Hero bets $0.75, BTN raises to $1.60, Hero raises to $4.50 and is all-in, BTN calls $2.85 and is all-in

Turn: ($9.95, 2 players) 9

River: ($9.95, 2 players) A

Hero shows K K (One Pair, Kings) (Pre 81%, Flop 26%, Turn 18%)
BTN shows 4 7 (Two Pair, Sevens and Fours) (Pre 19%, Flop 74%, Turn 82%)
BTN wins $9.54

...And a ton of in-game suckouts that AIEV doesn't account for. Fun times, but I don't wanna turn this into a whining thread. At least I'm not losing and I got some RB from Stars as well so the roll is currently at:

BR: $242

Good luck with the rebuild!

Depending on when you bought PT3 you might be eligible for a free upgrade to PT4. I upgraded and think PT4 is awesome, and I'm sure I don't get anywhere close to what it is capable of doing!

Thanks buddy. Yeah there's no way around upgrading to PT4 when you play zoom, so I'm gonna do that asap. I bought it a long time ago so I'm only eligible for the 60% discount, but its only 8 BIs

Finished off the day with some NL2 during a lecture. Gotta be happy with the results after a couple of difficult days. Shame about NL5 regular tables. Giraffe:

No real interesting hands today, prob not gonna have any until NL10 anyway. 2.6k hands played and won ~$32.50. Tomorrow's my last day of play for this week so let's hope for a good one.

NL5 is a lot more aggro than NL2 and I think folding a little too much just because I'm used to people having literally no bluff ranges at all. Not sure about this though, but the redline is definitely suffering.

Not much time today, so I decided to squeeze in a quick morning session. Only got in 516 hands but better than nothing. Games are insanely soft at this time of the day. This is likely gonna be it for this week, so giraffe for today and since I started this thread:

Today:

Since the start of this thread:

Starting to catch up to my EV a bit, but still not overjoyed with the results or volume. Again, no interesting hands for today, except maybe this smallish pot against a fish:

PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): 109 BB
SB: 97.6 BB (VPIP: 44.44, PFR: 22.22, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 9)

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has Q 6

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, SB calls 2.6 BB, fold

Flop: (7 BB, 2 players) 8 T 6
SB checks, Hero bets 4 BB, SB calls 4 BB

Turn: (15 BB, 2 players) 3
SB checks, Hero bets 7 BB, SB calls 7 BB

River: (29 BB, 2 players) A
SB bets 9 BB, Hero calls 9 BB

SB shows 4 K (High Card, Ace) (Pre 56%, Flop 19%, Turn 7%)
Hero shows Q 6 (One Pair, Sixes) (Pre 44%, Flop 81%, Turn 93%)
Hero wins 45 BB

Turn is close but I slightly prefer betting to get value from 96/76, fds or J9 and some protection against random overs. Also makes river more playable. Off to vacations for a few days now, back at it after sunday.

Try to get your hands on eightfold path to poker enlightenment by Tommy Angelo.
That really changed me from your regular "Gah, how can he hit that!!?!?" tilt monkey to "He got lucky, pause, write a note, play on".

And that was like 2 years ago or so.

The more you read and learn about variance, the less you tilt. I'm sure you know this, but never hurts to hear it from someone else once and awhile

GL, btw, I'm at zoom NL5 aswell, although I'm even MORE of a BR nit than you, so I dont think I'll touch NL10 unless I have 50k+ hands of winning poker (2BB/100 minimum) at NL5.

Thanks man, ill look into it. I have the mental game of poker but i havent gotten around to it yet. Im pretty aware of varience but im just a really impulsive tilt monkey when things dont go my way. Will check your recommendation out though.

I think your approach is correct. Imo moving up whenever you KNOW you can beat a level is better than when you reach X BIs. Ive easily beaten NL10 before though so Im just concerned with having a big enough roll for it.

Back from the short trip and decided to play a quick session on 8 tables. Knew right from the start it was a bad idea. Ran pretty bad but also played absolutely terribly. Way too tired to think things through. Made a few awful plays such as:

PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 123.6 BB (VPIP: 30.00, PFR: 20.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 10)

UTG: 261.4 BB (VPIP: 20.00, PFR: 20.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 5)
MP: 115.2 BB (VPIP: 4.76, PFR: 4.76, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 22)
Hero (CO): 167.6 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has K K

UTG raises to 3 BB, fold, Hero raises to 10 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 7 BB

Flop: (21.4 BB, 2 players) 8 A J
UTG bets 14 BB, Hero calls 14 BB

Turn: (49.4 BB, 2 players) 3
UTG checks, Hero bets 36 BB, UTG calls 36 BB

River: (121.4 BB, 2 players) J
UTG bets 47 BB, Hero calls 47 BB

UTG shows 8 8 (Full House, Eights full of Jacks) (Pre 19%, Flop 64%, Turn 23%)
Hero mucks K K (Flush, Ace High) (Pre 81%, Flop 36%, Turn 77%)
UTG wins 206.4 BB

Such an obv fold otr. Kinda sums up today's play though, combination of runbad and play even worse.

Graph:

Lost about $9.50, most of which came from NL2. Also played on my phone for the first time ever and lost a BI with KK<AA at NL2, so roll is down to:

haha your tilt level cracks me up, but I do hope you can get it fixed. You have good results at the micros, Ill be watching to see how you do.

Im shot taking at 25NL starting next month, might have to play 10NL if it goes bad. My roll management isnt as good as yours (not going to stay at stake for 50k hands like you) I will go where my roll can take me as quick as possible. Maybe we'll both end up at the same stake and we can go over some hands. My goal in my PG&C is to also be beating 50NL minimum by late this year so you'll be good inspiration for me. GL sir!

yeah man im the worst. slammed my desk today so my hand hurts haha i really gotta get this under control.

i use 30-25 BRM now, its not that conservative, but i recommend being flexible with BRM and moving up whenever you feel comfortable at your current stake. thats all there is to it really.

ill gladly go over some hands/do some sweat sessions with you, but right now my volume will be ******edly low due to finishing my MBA. always happy to discuss hands though. will be looking out for your thread, best of luck buddy.

One of the worst 1.5k hand stretches I've ever had today. Literally lost every single pot. Ended up being down 3 BI at NL5 and up 1.5 BIs at NL2. Was monkey tilting during the runbad as well, although at least it didn't impact my play significantly, except for the following hand, after which I snap-quit because I realized that A) I just was not gonna win today and B) IT'S AN OBVIOUS F FOLD FFS.

PokerStars - $0.05 NL FAST (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 108.4 BB (VPIP: 14.57, PFR: 7.09, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 267)
SB: 45 BB (VPIP: 34.67, PFR: 12.00, 3Bet Preflop: 3.13, Hands: 77)
BB: 50 BB (VPIP: 34.88, PFR: 4.65, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 43)
UTG: 216.2 BB (VPIP: 40.00, PFR: 40.00, 3Bet Preflop: 33.33, Hands: 5)
Hero (MP): 146.6 BB
CO: 55.8 BB (VPIP: 12.45, PFR: 3.66, 3Bet Preflop: 2.00, Hands: 283)

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has T T

UTG raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 10 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, UTG raises to 22 BB, Hero calls 12 BB

Flop: (45.4 BB, 2 players) A T 5
UTG checks, Hero checks

Turn: (45.4 BB, 2 players) A
UTG checks, Hero bets 22 BB, UTG calls 22 BB

River: (89.4 BB, 2 players) K
UTG checks, Hero bets 29 BB, UTG raises to 122.4 BB, Hero calls 73.6 BB and is all-in

UTG shows K K (Full House, Kings full of Aces) (Pre 81%, Flop 11%, Turn 9%)
Hero shows T T (Full House, Tens full of Aces) (Pre 19%, Flop 89%, Turn 91%)
UTG wins 282.4 BB

Prob a fold pre, but we were deepish, I had position and he had a pretty high 3bet %. Otr I giggled and said to myself that he obv has KK here, then bet, just laughed when he shoved and spite-called. In retrospect I hate just about everything I did in this hand, sizing including. So f bad.

Graph for today:

I hate NL5 with a burning passion. I don't know what it is about this stake but I've never run worse at any other limit. Can't wait to be out of it. On the bright side I got $33 in RB today, which puts me in the green for the day. Gonna take tomorrow off and call it a month. Therefore monthly garf:

I'm ok with the volume, but annoyed with how badly I run at NL5. Still have a WR of 9.2 BB/100 (12.5 expected), but my redline is declining pretty significantly. Getting check-shoved on and c/minraised a lot and I've been pretty card dead.

Might play some NL2 just for fun to relax, but pretty much done for this month. GL in May to everyone.

Since this seems to be a new trend I'll be offering a freeroll for anyone reading this thread concerning my goals for May. I have 4 goals:

[ ] Play 40k hands
[ ] Make at least $200 (including RB, MTTs)
[ ] Go to the gym 12 times
[ ] Go running/play tennis 8 times

For each of the goals I'm offering a $10 freeroll to the first person to state their SN and the goal they wish to freeroll on (can only choose one per person obv). For each of them I reserve the right to cancel the freeroll if something unforeseen happens that prevents me from fulfilling the goal (e.g. I get very sick or my computer breaks or something dumb). If I don't complete either of the goals, I will ship the person who picked that goal $10 on PS.

The first 2 goals will be the hardest imo, 40k hands will be tough due to a lot of work for school and I obv have no control over how I run. The gym/cardio goals are also gonna be tough since I've gotten so lazy, but I'll give it a try. GL.
