A housing market crash in Indiana in the next few weeks would be devastating!

I can't believe people think you can time the market.

I love the thread, btw.

Average NFT prices will be higher in the future, but I'd rather look at median than mean, because currently not a ton of NFTs have sold for $1M+ but enough to skew the average.

The volume of NFTS will 100% be greater, and as the value of money (fiat, crypto, etc.) increases (once we beat this inflationary period) then intrinsically the NFTs will be worth more in the future.

Cost to produce NFTs will fall, along with other barriers to entry, which may bring the average NFT sell price down, but the volume will be substantially more significant in the future.

I'm just having trouble envisioning this being anything but a better version of the game the Sims. In saying that I've never tried it. I just have a hard time seeing this being that much bigger than whatever the largest video game is right now.

Maybe I am too old (in my 30s) to understand the value people are placing on NFTs. For the life of me I'd rather hang an original piece of artwork on my wall or a print of some art than owning an "original" digital version of art. And don't get me started on people buying a video of a NBA dunk because they and other people agree that this copy is the original. Who cares I am going to re-watch the dunk you own on youtube or from another angle.

2. People that are smarter than you do stupid stuff everyday.

3. Who in the hell would be excited to "go" to a music festival on their computer or laptop? If covid has taught me anything it is that going to listen to live music is way better than listening to music on my computer, phone or ipad.

I agree that the volume of NFTs will continue to grow for at least the next 15+ months and maybe beyond. I just don't see the value in buying them beyond thinking the price will go up and this is a guy who understand the value of buying a sculpture or painting. With a sculpture you can look at it and others will see it when they go to your house, but what are these NFTs owners going to do with the NFTs besides resell them? Yeah, you can look at them, but you aren't showing them off at your house, right?

If you had properly replicated the twelfth hole at Augusta you would likely have taken a photo. Would be curious to see how it turned out though!

In before Lambo doors.

This is what people said (and still say) about bitcoin.

You don't have to "get" them, just understand that there is a serious market for them and people are making millions. That alone is all you really need to know at a macro level.

1-2 years ago I first saw them and thought it was the stupidest ****, I still get ads on FB for NBA Top Shot all the time lol. I'm not entirely sold myself, but the macro level keeps me interested.

Let's take NBA Top Shot as an example. The most expensive listed item at the moment is $250k for Ja Morant doing a dunk against the Phoenix Suns.

So I pay $250k and the NFT is transferred to me so I now own it. If I look at NBA Top Shot now I can view the clip for free and i'm sure it's available on YouTube too. But for the pleasure of $250k I get to say I own the clip? Nothing more?

If ESPN want to show the clip, or another sports channel - I don't get paid any royalties for the dunk? But if someone wants to come along and own the NFT of the clip they'll have to come and negotiate with me in order to do so. At which point they will take ownership and be in the same position as I was?

I completely agree that not everyone needs to "get" something for it to have value. Plenty of my holdings are companies I don't use because I'm not in their target market or I prefer one of their competitors. I heard about crypto years before I ever invested in it, but I "got" it/understood the appeal from the start. I just can't say the same thing about NFTs.

If you could actually own the rights to that pic/video where ESPN & other people had to pay you to use the image/video I would understand it, but you don't. You just own a replica of that pic/video.

I have the same questions as Masq does in his last post.

NFT's have a long term purpose but its not the art/collectible's imo. as we've already seen top shot is virtually all but dead. punks are losing steam and going that direction. maybe they'll whipsaw up and down in value every few years but it's really just a niche novelty.

NFT's have a chance to thrive at the real-world assets and documentation aspect. the sandboxes have some potential but currently they're just that, big piles of digital sand nobodies really doing anything with. I certainly don't see any of it as a necessity or world altering technology, though.

2016
Attempted to go the whole month of March without talking. Lasted 8 days when I slipped and said, "Oh ****" while playing rummy with my daughter. No Talk March, #NTM, oddly led me into trading stocks where I started w $40k and ran it down to $20k and then back up. We toyed around trading on the daily, and learning the stock game.
*Didn't put in a lot of hours on the poker table and ended the year $21,759.

2017
$40K Challenge: Attempt 2.
Try to make $40k playing 1/2nl only.
The challenge got cut short on August 22nd when I received a lifetime ban from all Harrah’s properties for vlogging on premises. At that time, I was on pace to achieve this challenge.
Sold my Melody 5 plex. Put that money, and poker money on a penny stock that made me some serious cash. Used that to pay off my home mortgage.
Ban was eventually uplifted. Thanks to some poker player support.

2018.
No debt. No mortgage.
Monthly expenses have been lowered, and trying to live a semi retired life. But w little money leftover it feels I’m still trying to survive.
Money has been strapped ever since paying Uncle Sam 5 figs for profits on ENPH stock and capital gains of Melody, but we hv kept our head above water.
Didn’t track any poker this year.

2019
Got a heloc loan $70k (10k Sara and 60k me).
From that, we put $58k into the market and used $2k for poker/life roll. We added $4,000 to RH and was in the stock game for $62,000 total. Risked all-n on a couple high volatile stocks (NIO mostly) w margin capped to the brim.
We lost it all. Went broke and had to get a job driving for Lyft/Uber to build the roll back.
#semiretired life hasn’t worked out too great. We restructured our deal w Sara who owes me for when I paid off our house in 2017.
2019 Poker Stats: $6,313 on 427 hours $14.8/hr.

2020
After playing some catch up from last couple years, we finally got back on track. Going forward, everything earned will go towards the next shot take.
The 2020 goal is simple. $50,000 in liquid money by the end of the year. We started the year at $0.
What we gonna do once we accomplish the $50kl challenge? Super high roller? Buy a flip house? Another all-in on a penny stock? Who knows...

2021 GOAL:
We crushed the 2020 goal and sold the house during a booming real estate market 2021
•took all monies and loaded up w MANA coin (penny stock). Nearly 200,000 coins of MANA.
•Rest of monies downsized to a 130k flip home
• will the flip be a flop? We will find out. Goal is sell flip this year and pile more MANA, get back on the poker grind, and buy the rest of these sports cards rookies we need.
*2021 Pokers started w playing over-raked, 5 handed Covid regulated game. Now restrictions hv loosen up and they’re looking really gd. Amped to sell flip and get back to playing as big as possible.

The rookies cards for 2021 buys:
Tiger Woods ✔️
Messi ✔️
Roger Fed
Djokovic
Serena Williams ✔️
Tom Brady
Lebron James ✔️
Usain Bolt (w auto)
Michael Phelps
Pete Rose
Rafa Nadal
Jack Nicklaus ✔️
Michael Jordan
*Unopened pack of 1986 Fleer Basketball
*unopened pack of 2000 Bowman Chrome Football ✔️

How long until you felt you were past the 60k stock loss affecting your mood/investment strategy? As in did you beat yourself up over it for 1 month? 1 year/were you making riskier trades over the last year or two because of a mindset like you were trying to get something back? Or are you able to move past that without any psychological barriers?

What a wonderful question.
As I gotten older money has meant less to me. I able to shrug it off more. As I gain confidence knowing I can make money if I need to make money allowed me the mindset to just got for it. Taking on more risks is something I shd hv done earlier in my life.

The mistimed NIO loss hurt, but what’s comforting is knowing I was still ok. What’s important, is putting urself in that position to b ok. Thru hard work, smart planning, sacrificing, and pursuing goals allowed me to get in a gd spot right now. No debt , no mortgage, we now can just swing for home runs. If we miss, no biggie.

^thats how I felt when losing 60k. Tighten up bootstraps and march forward. One doesn’t realize the confidence gained from losing piles. Nothing now phases me. We were just a couple weeks from turning that whole NIO around to million ish. Same w ENPH. Fact is, we are so close we can taste it. It’s not always going go as planned, but we adapt.

Yes it messes w ur psyche, but if u believe in urself, ur moves, ur decision making, then u shd b cool losing on urself. I can handle loss. I know in the long run, winners will win. I love those risky stocks. The distressed stocks. The ones they set themselves up for rebounds.

NIO did everything I thought it wd. Margin caught up w me, and we barely missed.

I can handle anything. I’m so competive. Life is a game to me. The milly will happen. We will win.
Gl 2 u as well.

Once u experience death around u. For instance, my mom back in 2003. From then on, it just made me wanna just take more chances, more risks, more leave it on the field type.
We ain’t scared. We put it on the line. We are going for it.
I’m also a bit more drunk than usual tonight. We hacked into the ufc fight. Watched for free. #callthecops

Thanks for the answer. I was asking because I had lost quite a lot, about the same as you, in the first year or two of trying to invest. The losses don't affect me in day to day life but feel like it's always in the back of my mind when I make a decision on new investments.
