I play at HSI occasionally and just found this thread. Started reading it from the beginning... truly great thread and story.

Today...

A few of the higher stakes players arranged a 15/30 limit game to run on Thursdays in hopes to bink the bbj. Bbj is 280k, but only applies on limit tables. Thus, the Thursday limit game.

So typically on Thursday u won't find a lot of high stakes regs, but they came out of the woodworks for this game. 20 players that normally don't play on Thursdays were in the poker room. Which in turn, makes for sm gd games all around.

I ended up winning a few hundred in the limit game, but I found it to b painfully boring! I think more strategy can be found putting together a Dora the Explorer puzzle. I said on Twitter that I rather paint my bathroom than play limit holdem. I'm serious tho, no seriously, I rather put myself into a pretzel position trying to paint behind the toilet than wasting my time w easy decisions. I want to b able to exercise my brain and hv battles of the minds playing nlhe, and w limit its such elementary thinking.

My buddy Chuck told me today that HSI was giving away bottles of wine to Diamond members. Thanks for the heads up Chuck! Nice little surprise.



Another buddy, Tim, told me about a Match MyChoice Program at Belterra (90mins away). He said if I take my Total Rewards Diamond card to Belterra that they wd match it w their MyChoice rewards program. At that time, they will give u $50 in free play, and $50 food voucher. Tim also said it comes w 4 nights free in Las Vegas. ?????
I called about it today, and the $50 free play, and $50 food voucher is correct for matching your TR card w their loyalty program, but Vegas 4 nights they weren't for sure.
Since Belterra is on the way to HCO (1hr 40mins away), I may head up there next week to cash out some of my HCO poker chips and play some 2/5nl. Then on my way home may hv to stop by Belterra for the $50 free play and $50 free food. I'll proll just throw the free $50 on black. Always bet on black, right?

Switching tangents...I can't stop thinking about Vegas. I'm really anxious to get out there next week, and try to break through to that next level. Eventually, I have to run better at these bigger games. Its weird because I feel I hv been playing great at the bigger stakes, but the poker Gods haven't been in my favor. Mayb this time around they will know how bad I want it, and be on #teamrayz.
The last Vegas shot I took out there 7 months ago didn't go so great. Again, I thought i played great, but didn't go well. I remember getting it all in twice as a fav, and both times having bad turn and river runouts.
This time around, I just don't know if my heart can handle those kinds of beats. Either way, I'm ready to play like a champion...It's all I can do.
My goal, is to play flawless. I can't afford to make any mistakes in these games. Therefore, I will be selective on my tables, take my time when acting, and constantly pay attention when not involved in hands.
I won't be thinking about the money, and will be fearless while playing every hand the best I can possibly play it.
No one wants it more!

Good luck in vegas m8, I feel your pain with the shottaking but am also wondering, why vegas? There's other, juicer 5/10+ going around. I went there this summer and it has dried up a lot, maybe I just got unlucky, report back

@kekeeke yeah I been asked that by a few people..."Why not Maryland Live?", "Why not Florida?", "Why not Tunica during wsop?", "Why not Borgata during the WPO?" Etc.
The reason I chose Vegas is because it's more affordable, less headaches. I can fly there for $158, use my TR card to pay for hotel, and don't need a car at anytime. Other places I wd have to pay for a week of hotel stay, pay for a week of rental car, and flight wd b more. Sure I can possibly make that up playin in juicier cash games > Vegas cash games, but still who knows. I just don't want to b too far into my wallet before I actually play my first hand.
It's a business trip.
It starting to sound like I will b playing w a lot of pros and these games aren't too gd.

@rayz I agree with you on Vegas. I'm in Cincy and flying/staying in Vegas is unbeatable in pricing

Question: I found the 1/2, 1/3 games in Vegas to be softer than in our area so why not just play those and make 1K a day with minimum investment?

I highly recommend the Saturday night seafood buffet, or the Sunday brunch. Both are excellent. 19 Steak & Seafood is good too, but pricy. If you are covered there you can get the Oscar Mignon for $45.

IF Belterra has 2-3 tables running (poker room is usually slow) you should sit for a while. I promise you will not be disappointed. But Cincy does have some good 2/5 action. GL either way.

I agree that other places have a softer player pool than HSI, but HSI does have great action on the 1/2games...Not always, but at times they can b insane.
I'm not going to Vegas to play 1/2 and 1/3, for me, it is about taking a shot at bigger games. If I want to reach that next level, I have to prove it to myself that I belong. I hv the roll to take this risk on, and if it doesn't work out, then so be it. I'll just try again when I'm properly rolled again...eventually breakthrough.
I'm not like many top pros out there. When I play, I play on my own dime. No backers! My own money all the time. This is why I don't give a lot of credit to most of these tourney players out there who hv mult rings, bracelets, and ranked on the money list. How much of those winnings did they recieve? 5%? 10%? 20%? 50%? Who knows? I know it's not a 100%! I want all of myself all of the time. Because I want to b in control of my own money, my own destiny, and ultimately, I believe in me. I want to feel all the pain of losing my own money, and feel the glory of winning w my money. When it's your money on the line, that's poker! #oldschool.

I went to Belterra last night to do to the Tier Match. I talked to the casino host and he assured me everything is true. He said to a wait a few weeks until I'm in the system and then I can call and get my free trips to Vegas (3 nights) and Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas (4 nights). For the trip to Vegas, you have to stay at either MGM, Mandalay Bay or the Mirage. They also gave me $50 in free play and a $50 dining credit. Would recommend.

Regarding this tier match: is it possible to obtain diamond status through the founders club card membership (essentially only costing $199), then stopping by belterra and obtaining their tier match thus receiving a free stay in LV and the Bahamas? Talk about a travel hack if this is possible.

While is Vegas last summer for the WSOP, a guy told me about that Founders Card/Diamond status deal. I was skeptical, but I have talked to a few people since then who have told they got the card and therefore, became Diamonds. So yes, getting the Founders Card would be a quick and cheap way of doing it.
