You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

@thepleasure. Just play standard, mix in some moves in prime spots, don’t try to play like ur better than everyone else. <-even if u are. ABC will get it done a lot of times. Punish the limps in position. Go after the dead money pots when they present themselves in easier ‘get thru spots’’. Stay out of flip spots. Use ur skill rather than luck. Patience. Stay the course. Sessions will come to 1 or 2 big hands that will make ya or break ya. Play every the best u can play it. Never show. Never tilt. Leave if ur feeling off. Know ur 1/3 opponent.

Poker 10 commandments .

I been in this game for years, it made me a psychopath. There’s rules to this ****. I wrote me a Super System. A step by step booklet for you to get. Your poker game on track. Not ur mom’s basement.

Rule nombre uno. Never let no one know how much dough u hold cause u know. They gonna ask for handshake at the high stakes especially if that player ****ed up and got his ass upstuck.

Number 2 never let them know ur next move. Don’t u know poker players move in simulations and variance? Take it from your table Capn. He done squeezed mashed button at these cats for they plaques and chips.

Number 3 never trust nobody. Your moms will set that trap up, properly show the nuts. Hoodie to the masks up. ****, for that fast play. She will be laying in the parking garage, to light that cig up.

Number 4
Know u heard this before. Never play for rollz or ya gonna go broke.

Number 5
Never hv a home game where rest at. I don’t care if they bring full house, tell em bounce.

Number 6
That make up and credit. Dead it. U think a Maurice Hawkins paying u back? **** forget it.

Number 7
This rule is so underrepped.
Keep your persona and table image completely separated. Tags and lags donÂ’t mix. Like 2 decks and no 6.
Find yourself in serious ****.

Number 8
Never keep no bands on you. Them players that squeeze your chips can hold rags too.

Number 9
Shoulda been number one to a few. If you ain’t getting bricks stay the **** from the room.
If regs think u fishing ain’t trying to listen. They be sitting at your table waiting to start stacking.

Number 10
A strong word called monkey tilt. Strictly stay away and say not for today. If u ainÂ’t got that mindset say hell no. Cuz they gonna want that money; heart, sleep, mind, soul.

If u follow these rules u’ll hv mad money to break up. If not, it gonna be 24 years in make up.

Do you follow these rules yourself? Doesn't seem like you have mad money to break up.

Busted the main.
Made a big risky play w A3dd @$1k bb. Sitting w 50k (from 30k).
This particular hand was limped by 4 players from a very active table. Sb ($30k) makes it $6k, all limp/called. IÂ’m in co and wanna squeeze. Not sure if I can get thru sb, but hell w it. We shove 50 bigs (but feels like only 30bigs in this play).
Sb calls a JJ and no luck us

Got last 17 bigs in bb after button limps, sb limp, we shove AQ in bb. Sb limp calls AK.

Time to move on.

Time to move on.

So you limp from the CO and 3! Jam over the SB who raised 20% of their stack

Looks like 4*6k from the SB and 3 limp callers, 30k from BS, so 54k, 24k for SB to call. He only needs 31% equity and your hand looks like exactly what it is, a weak Ax suited you didn’t want to raise over 3 limpers, or a middling pair. You’re gonna get snapped off here by probably all of his range because he shouldn’t be raising the SB very wide. You’re like 30% against everything at best. Maybe you should just wear a Pat McAfee jersey when you play; people might think you’re being ironic and it might level them into thinking you’re not going to punt your stack.

Yeah I saw 25k in the middle and went for it.
Prob shd hv realized sb wasn’t folding. If can get thru sb then scoop it all.
I’m 33% to win but w the other 18k dead money, just pulled trigger. Still wasn’t optimal and was a mistake.

We came back for a year to update the thread.
Doughboy never returned lol. Not sure if I can go on without him.
We set out 3 goals for 2024 and tackled 2 of 3. (Pickle, 24lbs in 1 month, poker 40k not gonna happen).

It best to quit that part of the challenge, and start to clear our head. We hv been foggy.

Money is dwindling and gonna hv to cut ties here and start the next thing. Didn’t want to, but too far behind pace and the motivation isn’t there.
Nothing more I can off here if not doing the poker challenges.

Thanks for all the gd and bad advice. Love u all.

12 years ago, you opened the thread with a goal, to make 40k in a year playing 1/2 and 1/3

Reason for Goal – The challenge itself is the ultimate reason for this goal. I was recently in a conversation with a friend of mine, and he was stating that $30k/yr. was a realistic earning for a $1-2, $1-3 nlhe grinder. I discussed that an “A” player putting in 40hrs/wk. can possibly make $40k/yr. He said, “no way”, and I said “I’m going to do it.” And that’s how this goal started. Reason 2) Simple – the goal will keep me staying determined to play flawlessly, and it will keep me focused at the task at hand. This goal allows me to stay “hungry” the whole year. I enjoy the pressure of striving to achieve something that is challenging. This challenge will keep me waking up each day and grinding. The satisfaction of achieving this goal will be half the fun, and the journey getting there is the other half.
With you conceding the goal for 2024, that makes 12 consecutive years that you haven't been able to achieve your sole stated goal. My question to you is, do you think that that goal is impossible for anyone, or do you think it's possible but you are too mentally weak to achieve it?

With 1/3 being the lowest stake OP can play, $40k for a FT poker player isn't a challenge. At a 10BB/hr WR, a FT poker player would need to put in just 1,333.33 hours in a year, or 110 hours/mo. It shouldn't be a challenge, and it was only a challenge for OP this year because he was artificially limiting his hours for no good reason. If OP actually tried instead of this "semi-retired" stuff, he would crush this challenge.

yeah idk. i get that the schadenfraude and aggressiveness is a bit much in some posts (from the forum responders), but i do think the people following along generally want what's best for you and for you to do well. i think you also got decent advice from multiple sources in this thread (arrogantly i hope that i'm one of them) and it might help you to have people run ideas by even if you stop playing poker. i get it's your life and they're your decisions / mistakes to make, i think its just frustrating for most people to watch you continually do the same self sabotaging things over and over, especially while you have a family. but regardless, its fun blog to read and hope you keep updating even if no poker.
