I know I mentioned I wouldn't b discussing bad beats, but I have to get this one off my chest...
After I get my 9yr old on the bus, I checked my Bravo App at 7am and see a 1/2 is going at HSI. So I call and get some info and the Pit Boss said its 4 handed with a couple 1k stacks. I tell them I'm on my way. I get there at 8am and sit down with $740 (half of big stack). The game was great - a lot of bluffing, bantering, and big pots. At 10am it went from fun to an ebrubt Done It all happened after I flopped Yahtzee against the biggest gambler at the table. This young buck was bluffing more than Lance Armstrong. He was drinking a strange combination of Jameson, coffee, and a coke. All 3 of his "energy" drinks were behind his big mountain of chips.
$742 Me, small blind: Q9
$850 Villain, Hijack: K9
Villain makes it $7 preflop, I call in the sb, and mp player calls.
The flop: 810J
I check the nuts, mp bets $10, villain raises to $35, I call, mp folds.
The turn: 5
A gd card for me as I still have the nuts and a flush draw. I check again, villain bets $105. Im thinking awesome, he fell deep into my trap! I raise to $280 and he hesistantly calls. After he calls Im already visualizing stacking my pot up, while at the same time hoping the river is a brick. I dont want to see the board pair (12outs), or clubs (9outs), or even a Q (3outs). Please brick the river!.....
The river: Q
Bad card, but still the only hand that beats me is the K9. I bet $200, he raises all in. Now I know its a bad card, and most likely chopping the same straight. I call my last $222, and he screams Nuts!! My stomach churned when I see the K9 OFF, not s, off. He stands up going bananas screaming ship it, SHIP IT, SHiP IT!!! I took it like a man, and walked out at 10am as a $742 loser -all in one brutal hand!
That hand dropped my hourly a couple of dollars. #sigh. But I will keep showing up, day n day out. For now, I gotta to leave this house, clear my head, and go to the gym. My physical exercise helps my mental, and vice versa.

I just started this thread. You remind me a lot of myself. Plan on digesting this journey over some time…..but my word, if you ever get lucky enough to find a game like this again……its time to jaywalk for a second and forget $800 self imposed “rules”. Im not sure what happens 9 years from 2013 yet, but I hope you realize by 2022 plus EV spots trump discipline.

I feel like Im talking to future Marty McFly right now.

While I was on my jog today, I came up w a formula that may answer my poll question attached to this thread…“What is a realistic annual earning of a SOLID player playing 1/2nhle?” The Projected Annual Income Formula (PAIF) I came up w is based on average hrs logged/wk. I feel after 7 months straight of playing 1/2nlhe I now have a better idea of what is a realistic annual earning at 1/2 than ever before. This question has been intriguing to me for such a long time that it became a big reason of why I started this challenge at the beginning of the year. Now 7 months into this challenge and playing A LOT of 1/2nlhe, this is the formula I came up w to answer my poll question. IMO, I believe this is a gd estimate of a PAI of a SOLID grinder.
Here it is: Average Hours/ Week = H 1,000(H) + .33(H x 1,000) = Projected Annual Income (PAI)
I.E. I’m averaging 26hrs/wk, so H=26 $1,000(26) + .33(26 x $1,000) = $26,000 + $8,580 = $34,580 PAI.

On the flip flop…Here is a hand from today that got my poker brain thinking.
LB 710(Larry Legend) $300: When bets he has the gds. When he raises he def has 1st,2nd,3rd nuts. Seldom bluffs.
MPJ9 $300: Solid player, mixes it up well.
4 way limp preflop. Im otb w 88 w a $600 stack.
The flop is 689. LB flops the joint and checks, MP leads out $10 w flush draw, I call otb w set of 8s, LB then ch/raises to $35. MP calls, I call. The turn is 3. LB bets $50 w nut straight, and MP calls. At this point I know 100% Larry Legend has a straight, and pretty sure MP has a flush draw. I call $50 only because if I hit the 10 outer, I know “the Legend” will call a big bet on river w his straight (if nondiamond). If I full up w a diamond river card, then I think I cd get called in both spots w a vb, or by MP only w a big bet. So based on these assumptions alone I call. Pot is now $250ish going to the river. The river is a 2. LB checks, MP checks his flush, and I check. Flush wins.
If I wd hv hit the 10 outer on river w nondiamond I feel “Legend” calls no more than $120 w straight, if I full up w a diamond river- I may just put in a big bet of $190 and get called by flush only, instead of vb $75 and get called in both spots. Even though Im behind, I can’t ever fold to a $50 turn bet. I have bout a 22% chance to complete after turn, so in order to call the $50 turn bet, I hv to get a 5:1 price. The price was right, but it got me thinking about this hand w these 2 other players involved. #knowurplayer. I think I may have still called even if I wasn’t getting the right price. The reason being is solely based on implied odds if I hit the 10 outer. The implied odds math I came up w says I can call up to $100 turn from LB if and only if MP calls as well. Thus, putting the total pot going to river at $400. Therefore, I wd have to get a call of $100 on river if I hit the 10 outer for it to b +ev. (100x5=$500) Which in this case, I think I wd have EASILY gotten a $100 call if I hit. In this hypothetical of $100 turn bet instead of $50, I bet same $120 if non diamond hits, and “Legend” pays me off. W diamond full up, if MP still checks his flush- I bet MP remaining stack of $160 and he 90% calls. If he bets his flush (lets say $100 river bet), I raise, and he def calls off his remaining stack ($60).
The reason I posted this hand is because it digs a little deeper into “Know your Player”, what exactly is the right price(?), and implied odds. In this hand, I knew I was beat from the jump, but the value was too good to pass up if I hit river. After this hand, I dug deeper trying to determine how much I can call on turn for it to b +ev. Smtimes I can call when not getting the right price on the draw, but w implied odds factored in makes it the right price. If that makes any sense at all. oK my brain hurts, im done. I wish I wd hv hit that 10 outer, but still a gd day. +$217 on 4.5hrs.
I feel honored here 9 years later digging up a thread where you played against me pokers

I played with OP during an evening 2/5 session. He seemed to be in good spirits. I didn't see him win many hands other than a few he took down preflop by 3betting to like 5-8x.

XLM took a hit since then. Still not good. After last years taxes and the loss on XLM should be worth like half the value of the house he sold I think. A player told me BS is unretired and getting back into the putting green/home depot retail theft business.

if it were me and I had balances on voyager I'd sell and (preferably) withdrawal from the site asap or at least convert to USD which is supposed to be FDIC insured on there.

Came here to the say the above ^

I work in the industry, 3AC is not going to be repaying anything. Voyager does not have enough equity to cover a $600m hole. Also doesn't matter if it's in XLM instead of USD/USDC, it's all cross margined behind scenes.

If you read this BS, please remove your funds asap. As far as I know, places like Coinbase do not do lending, so should be fine to park there until this blows over if you don't have a hardware wallet to self-custody.

Yeah Voyager’s entire market cap is $143M Canadian.

Seems like Ray’s tax bill might be larger than his net worth now. Not unreasonable to think he might have to declare bankruptcy.

Many of us here urged him to put his $1M in safe assets but he decided to double down. YOLO I guess.

Why the continued assumptions about Ray's actions/positions? He hasn't updated this thread in months (grats to Ray on the score on MANA btw MANAmanMANAman) ... if there's anything we can surmise about Ray from his past behavior is that he COULD be in an ENTIRELY different investment class / pursuit by now and flipped that milly into 3 milly (or busto obviously).

But yeah, you should be self-custody any crypto you have unless you're using Robinhood, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Binance, FTX (maybe).
FTX is attempting to bailout Voyager fwiw (a big loan and if Voyager defaults Sam owns a hefty % of the app).

LUNA/UST was way more the Rayz Ray wayyyyy than sitting in XLM ... if he's financially hurting my $ would be on that.

I want to thank you for posting this. I'm so glad I'm subscribed to this thread. I had 65k on Voyager when you posted this and managed to get everything off except 4k of btc and 20k cash, which should be covered by the FDIC.
