So last night I picked up ~$700 in my regular $22 game after chopping HU for $350 and getting an additional $340 from my opponents bounty score. Pretty sweet score for 2nd place in a $1k gtd.
Usually I make a lot of chips without showdown because these players tighten up instead of opening up when the blinds get back. However, this time around was just pure rungood, I did not lose one flip:
Blinds 300/600, 7-handed
I open UTG with Q
T
with ~60k behind. It folds to BB who is a friend and likes to play back but nothing wild. He 3-bets to 4k, with 40k behind. I'm in position so it's an easy call with such a small 3-bet.
Flop K
J
3
, pot 8.3k. Pretty good flop. Villain bets 5.2k, I raise to 16k. I'm ahead or flipping vs. his strongest hands and want to build a pot to jam any turn. He thinks for a bit and jams for 36k total. Not the greatest outcome, but I call of course. He shows J
J
and I have ~40%.
Turn A
River T
Blinds 500/1000, 6-handed
UTG limps in, BTN limps in, SB complete and I check with K
7
.
Flop 7
6
4
, pot 4k. Check to BTN who bets 2k with 20k behind. SB folds and it's up to me. I know BTN likes to bet and doesn't need a hand here at all after getting checked to. I'm big stack with a reasonable hand so I put him all in. He quickly calls with T
8
and I only have 36%!
Turn 6
River 2
I get moved to another table with a bunch of droolers. Easier money for sure, but not as much fun as battling the group of young guys I hang out with.
The next hand bored me to death, but got everyone else pretty excited. Honestly, I did not bat an eyelid on the river, the whole hand is so zzz.
Blinds 4k/8k, 7-handed
I'm UTG with ~200k. Everyone is super tight as usual so I open A
7
to 16k. CO, BTN call and BB completes.
Flop 5
7
5
, pot 64k. BB checks and I c-bet 22k. CO and BTN fold and BB jams for ~50k. I obviously call and BB tables T
5
.
Turn 4
River 7
Then I lose a significant pot in a non-showdown hand where I tanked ages on river:
Blinds 5k/10k, 7-handed.
UTG (chipleader, seems to bet the strength of his hands, but no further reads) opens to 36k. I'm on BTN with A
Q
and 280k. I'm in position with a nice stack and don't see the need to get it in vs a nutted range so I just call.
Flop Q
T
9
, pot 87k. UTG bets 48k, I call.
Turn 6
, pot 183k. UTG bets 48k again. This seems weak, but I've seen him string along someone with a set of aces by betting small, so I opt to call getting 5 to 1.
River 2
, pot 279k. UTG now jams for 130k effective. I now have to figure out whether he does this with a missed draw, but I just don't have enough reads. It really could be either way. I would snap-call/fold vs. certain regs here. Eventually I fold to continue with a reasonable shoving stack, figuring his preflop sizing looks a lot like 88-AA, of which I only beat 88 or JJ. The latter makes sense if he has the heart to follow through, the prior seems super spewy. Later it turns out he had in fact 88. I gotta give him credit for the river jam, but pre-flop/flop/turn seems terrible.
On FT I find a double vs. the above player in for the night characteristically fortunate fashion:
Blinds 15k/30k, 5-handed
I'm on BTN with A
6
with 350k and open to 75k. It's a straight shove, but I'm experimenting with pressuring with smallball a bit more, which is working out quite well in these spots vs transparant players recently. SB calls, BB folds.
Flop A
Q
Q
, pot 180k. SB quickly leads 50k, I sigh-call. Unlikely he has a queen here, it's more likely an ace of which a lot are better than mine. Still, random spew or draws is not impossible.
Turn 4
, pot 280k. SB now leads 90k, and I shove for 200k total. Sure enough he calls with A
9
, so I have draw outs and flush outs.
River J
After he busts, I get HU, make the deal, and continue playing around 20bb deep. Villain is quite capable and starts jamming when we get shallower. Eventually I limp-call 77 for 15bb but run into 99. All's good though, since it turns out losing is much more profitable than winning
