Hello everybody,

I am based in the UK playing 200nl as a professional.

I do not want to remain within the UK because of certain things going on with the government and cost of living. I have been looking at relocating to south east Asia for a few months now but I have a few things need answering before I take the big step.

1. How do you get around the legality of online poker in the Asian countries?

2. Where is the best place to be in terms of having a balance of grinding and social life. I would preferably like to be close to the coast.

Please could somebody shed some light, I am completely in the dark.

Once relocated this thread will also become a blog of my journey for anybody that would like to follow or is thinking of doing the same.

Thanks

I'm from Canada and made the move to Thailand back in 2010.

As far as Thailand goes

1) Police won't be knocking on your doors because you play online poker. Online poker is pretty much a gray area here and you won't have any problems.

2) I've been to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, China, Thailand (obv). For me personally, I've always prefered Thailand for different reasons. But this is different for everybody. My advice for you is to come and see it for yourself. Travel around and see how you like it.

Even though I like Thailand better than all others SEA countries, I liked all of them. They are all special in their own ways.

Thanks so much for the response, it is greatly appreciated.

Are you still in Thailand yourself? I was thinking of going to Phuket for a month to see how I like it. Then make a decision after that. I have seen some Airbnb condos for around £600 for a month.

Hey mate, I am also a 200nl grinder from the UK that's getting out of here. I fly out to BKK next Monday, I have lived in Thailand and Vietnam before. And I enjoyed them both, I would definitely recommend Thailand over Vietnam if it's your first time in Asia, as it's more western friendly by far. But Vietnam does have some great places on the coast to check out

Ah man that's sick, have a safe flight!

How long are you going for? Do you just stay in airbnb's or are you fixed to one place?

You should also try Chiang Mai. It's totally different from Phuket (less expensive, colder, mountainous, bunch of grinders & digital nomads, great health care, etc).

Phuket is gorgeous and beautiful but it's pretty much a tourist trap and (almost) everything is over-priced.

If you ever come by Chiang Mai let me know. Would be more than happy to have a beer with you :-)

You're gonna love it :-)

February is an amazing time to come here. Weather is great and it's not too hot.
