So sorry to hear the bad news. There's no easy way around it, but the busier you keep yourself the better. Getting outside w/some sunshine and a couple bros might help out.

Sorry about your dog man, I had a similar situation with my childhood dog a couple years ago, didn't quite make it to that last goodbye. Not fun to deal with, but just gotta remember the good times!
05-14-2013 , 03:09 PM
Hope things get better for you bro!

I don't mean to sound like a tool or anything, but I see these EV graphs and they look standard to me. Hear me out on this, and I could be extremely wrong, and if I am I apologize. But it'll make you feel better.

An MTT or SNG player, running even average or slightly above average, is always going to be under EV. You have to run hot to run at EV and amazingly hot to run above EV. Let's look at a 6max SNG game for example. Everyone starts with 1,500 chips. You get AKcc and get it all in preflop vs AKss. The board runs out TJQ23ccccc. You're now +1,500 in equity. Let's say two others double up. So 3 players are now at 3,000. You shove AAsc vs AAhd. Board runs out 23459ddddh. Two coinflips, and technically the result is what one would expect, win one and lose one. However, you are now down 1,500 from your EV line and it will show you as technically running bad.

You can't make this difference up in that tournament; it's final. Now that's a drastic situation that I showed. But the meaning behind it is the same for most tournaments. Unless you win the tournament, it is extremely unlikely that you will run at EV or above EV simply because you will get knocked out at the moment when your chips are worth the most. Also, odds are that you will have more chips at your knockout point than you did at almost every other stage of the tournament. And if that is not the case, then odds are you already lost an all in to run more under EV.

If you win the SNG, you will almost always run at or above EV.

There are drastic examples where you can run under EV and win. There are also drastic examples where you can run above EV and lose.

But that's just a noob's way of thinking about SNG and MTT EV lines.

Over a big sample this will happen against you and in your favor. It will even out over a long sample. This is why all people talk about samples. It isnt only you have your AK vs AQ so red line up visa versa red line down

Do you know what the "E" in EV stands for?

I kept from posting one of my best days in months out of respect for Josh so maybe you could show how little you understand poker math somewhere else.

If you believe you are a 'noob' (and you say you are), then why try to preach/teach a professional about ev when his career and daily life hinge SO MUCH on having an expert understanding of said subject?

You claim to have, at most, a tepid understanding and at least a complete misunderstanding of this concept and yet you approach someone with more expert knowledge on this than you by A LOT and more or less tell him that his huge downswing is his fault... right after his ****ing dog died no less. You must be on the sprectrum, right? Even if you were right I would hate on you for this, but you're not. Cmon guy, don't be a dick, leave OP to his grind. What are you even trying to accomplish with this statement anyway????

Damn, man. Really sorry to hear about poker and IRL downswing. I'm a dog lover and have had 3 dogs pass on me. I cried like a baby when my last dog died from cancer. It really sucks.

Remind me never to play a hyper turbo. I could never stomach those sick swings. Standard or not.

Good luck rebounding Josh!

... and MTT's don't have EV lines - just to add to the long list ******ed ****.

_________

@OP, sry about the dog, man. Tough ****. Hope you pull through both in life and the current ds you're on

When you're a noob about something you should ask wether your thoughts are correct not state them as if they are correct. Because now we see you rambling about some some complete bull**** and we're all thinking "woah this dude is crazy", while if you would have taken a softer approach we would have just said you were wrong and should study the concept of the "E" in "EV" more.

Thx for the condolences via fb/skype/2p2 everyone, much appreciated. Been tough, gonna be real tough going home on the 28th and not having him running out the door to tackle me, but just gotta remember hes not suffering and is in a better place now. He probably had cancer, something like leukemia or a brain tumor would make most sense I would think....w/e, gotta move on.

Havent been in the grinding mood really since I learned of him being put to sleep, not gonna force the volume either. Played like 52 sngs today and ran bad, other than that just played the COOPs. Busted near bubble of the 700 BigO getting rivd to double, ran deep in the 27 stud but nothing doing there either.

Really looking fwd to SCOOP being over, going home 2 days after on the 28th and already have tickets for my mom, dad and I to go to game 7 of the hawks/red wings series on may 29th if it goes 7 games. If not, we'll for sure be going to some conf finals games as well. Will be good to just go home and get away from everything for a while.

Meh boring update, just laying in bed kinda reflecting on life. Too lazy to grab any graphs, havent played much anyway. Sitting on about 540k vpps

Will be up early to pick up ruse and grab bfast and do some banking business, and then back to my place to late reg the 27/215 2-7 SCOOPs...gla on the grind

One more pic of my dog and I, from christmas this past yr, before i lost a few pounds (still working on that, doing good with the no 3l/chip thing too, just gotta get in more exercise)

sucks about ur dog man hope things turn around on the tables

Hi josh,

i hope this will help you to think different when looking at dogs pictures like i do.

I lost my dog around 8 months ago, i had him for 13 years. Writing this brings me a tear into my eye.

Most people dont know that dogs actually made the biggest jump in evoltution then every other animal on the planet. HOW????

Dogs adopted the happy behaviour from us Humans. What does it mean?

When we are happy we smile. Smiling means we show our teeths. Dogs copied that. Means, when a Dog is happy he smiles too!!! Like on ur picture. This helped me a lot, seeing my Dog beeing happy and smiling on pictures when he was aorund our family.

I will make a tattoo with her name and dates to show her my last respect and too show everyone that i had a proud dog wich i still love and always will love to my very own death.

Geers!

sorry about your dog, nice looking lab too, they are great dogs for families and kids also- I grew up on farm near the frozen tundra, and we had alot of labs over the years and never had one i didn't like- they loved to chase cars and try to bite the tires for some reason also? Love your shirt also, what a great team! Go Pack Go! My Buddy just got 2 season tickets this year now after waiting, get this (38 years!) He was twelve when he signed up for them!
Hope you run better soon!
