Hi there

In this thread I will document my experiment with reverse bumhunting the HU tables.

My main idea is to sit down at HU tables with less than a full stack and no auto-rebuy on - the universal fish tell. To further solidify my fish status I will also do some limping and possibly some min 3-betting, min 4-betting, minbetting and so on. (I haven't considered the details too much yet).

Thinking that I am a fish, no regular or bumhunter will quit me. But unbeknownst to them, I've actually been winning at small stakes 6-max NL since 2008. Given that, my skills will very likely be superior to theirs (depending on stakes), and their adjustments to my "fish strategy" obvious to me. (Or maybe I will get crushed anyway, who knows).

In any case, the main idea is to have some fun with poker instead of forcing myself to grind out an income. At this point I'd rather get my income someplace else and try some new stuff with poker instead, I'm tired of the grind. Playing some HU should be fun, and pretending to be a fish surely has to be fun. Ending up crushing whilst wearing the fish suit would be super sweet as well. But we'll see.

Starting bankroll is €203.46.

Potential thread outcome: Enjoyable bumhunter-crushing adventures, climbing the stakes.
Likely thread outcome: Going bust, quitting, thread dying.

Let's see what happens. Peace!

Reverse bumhunting? Surely that would be playing the best available opposition...

your technique is not new or clever

Maybe try it at a few low stakes tables, berate and act like a drunk fool, lose a buyin and shout at the table, then sit at NL100 HU with like $67.33

I remember someone reverse bumhunted me when I used to grind $100 deep HUSNG's. He played totally donk for 20 odd hands then schooled me for about 5-6 games wp

Probably fun but doubt it makes you much money

Well, you know what I mean. Didn't claim it to be original or clever either, no.

Yes I did see it, pretty funny. But in that thread he played horribly a lot. That's not what I will do.

Thanks for the ideas, didn't consider chatting that much but it does add to the fish image.

Haha, okay.

I guess I should also clarify my strategic intentions a bit.

I'm not intending to randomly play bad, and then suddenly start playing a solid standard game to tarp them. I'm intending to play well all the time, but feigning poor play by doing things that are not typically considered good, yet having a pretty solid constructed strategy behind them. (For example, it's not like limping or min 3-betting is automatically bad, it can likely be fine if you construct a decent strategy).

In other words, I won't just random limp or do dumb stuff. I will limp a constructed range and potentially min 3-bet/min4-bet a constructed range that works well. But since I'll buy in with an odd amount, not auto-rebuy and take these strange and fishy lines quite often, I will keep the fish image. My goal is to start out looking like a fish and keep on looking like a fish. Kind of a stealth mission, if you will. Best outcome would be crushing some regulars and have them think "that f-king fish ran so good / managed to magically outplay me / idk wtf happened" and such. They should not know they have been tarped.

So I'm thinking it could be fun. If I get to it, that is
