Finally I've been granted a gold VIP signature club card at my casino! It took a lot of degen gambling to attain this: roulette, blackjack, baccarat... Anything except poker basically.

But now I have it and I'm going to keep it for the next 10 months. I fully intend to maximise the benefits of this card, the main one being free drinks. I plan to go out drinking this weekend with a few friends, who I'll invite into the VIP room with me.

Now that I'm there, I plan to quit playing all pit games. No more -EV degen games for me. I've got all the casino points I need and I can focus entirely on poker now.

Unfortunately, the bankroll is down to $800 now. I took a pretty big hit my last roulette session, so I look forward to quitting that sh*t game once and for all.

I also took a bit of a hit at poker too. I played this hand at 2/5 NL a couple of days ago, which goes to show how rusty I am:

Hand 1: facing a 4bet at live poker

2/5 NL, 7-handed, $700 effective

Context: I'd been at this table for about 2 hours and hadn't seen a single 4bet from anyone that whole time, so I gave my opponent a lot of credit.

UTG raises $15
MP calls $15
Hero 3bets $65 CO with AKdd
BTN cold 4bets $145
Hero calls $145

Flop ($312) Qs 8d 5c

Both check

Turn ($312) Qs 8d 5c 4c

Both check

At this point, I'm thinking villain probably has AK, since I would've expected a bet by now if he had KK+. I also figure I can credibly rep QQ or AQ here.

River ($312) Qs 8d 5c 4c 6h

Hero bets $200
Villain tank calls $200

Spoiler:
Villain shows QJo ?!?!
Villain scoops a $712 pot

I was shocked to see this hand. No one 4bets for 2 hours and now suddenly people are 4betting QJo?! Made me disappointed that I didn't 5bet jam pre, like I would've done 100% of the time in an online game against decent regs.
Hello 6bet me,
I'm a huge fan. Read your first blog when you were a pizza delivery driver. I also worked as pizza delivery driver.
Do you still go the gym? I recently bought dumbbells to start exercising.

The hand above, JJ-9's are also in villain's range and should call your river bet.
good luck

Is it fair to say that that $800 represents a huge majority of your actual cash? My guess is $800 represents exactly 100% of it.

With my poker winnings. I grinded it up from $400 on the apps. Unfortunately, I spent most of my profit, so I don't have a lot to show for it.

2)You also said in the last part of that post that youre gonna be fine as long as you stick with just playing low stakes poker. Taking 6bets gamblinghistory and decisionmaking experiences into account- how likely is that to ever happen? Like, how many times have you tried to do this before and faceplanted in 100 miles pr hour into the concretewall?

What is gonna be different this time around, compared to the countless failed attempts in the past?
1) Been living with mum since 2019 and the plan was going to be to live with her until after I finish my degree. If I quit this degree (high chance I will), then the plan will be to save up for a trip to Thailand, then move out after I return to Australia. And when I was at uni, I didn't save anything, so had to start from almost nothing in August.

2) I actually had really good BRM practices in season 2. I was grinding 100nl on the apps even with a $20k bankroll. So I just need to do that again.

3) Season 2 was a success. I won around $40k in under 6 months of grinding. Is your definition of success so high that you consider anyone who isn't a multi-millionaire to be a failure?

This thread went from fun, to meh, to just flat out pathetic.
Well I did get my **** together, I quit gambling and went back to uni, but I made a conscious decision to take a different path. I feel that the poker lifestyle is better for me.

Unfortunately there's obviously no way any of this reaches you but the cycle you're trapped in is not good and only you can work your way out.

Going into debt to friends to play casino games is not the right move - those games are -EV in the long run and it simply won't work out if you continue.
I'm not overly concerned with meeting other people's definition of success. People can think what they want to think. I just want to be a better person tomorrow than I am today, and make slow and steady progress towards a lifestyle that makes me happy.

And yeah I plan to quit (or at least minimise my time spent on) those -EV pit games and stick to poker.

That would be nice, but unfortunately, the best I can get with a gold card is free parking, free basic drinks and 15% off hotels. Can't even get free meals until I reach platinum.

I'll definitely consider selling action when I play tournaments. But it's quite difficult to get backed for cash games unless it's someone from my city that can monitor me play.

Is the guy who bankrolled you before still around? Is getting staked by him still a possibility?

Your main focus should be to reign in any degen tendencies and build a bankroll either by running it up or grinding up microstakes online or getting staked by the young asian guy.
Yeah I genuinely considered folding AKs pre to the 4bet. It just screamed KK/AA to me.

Ahh you mean DLuo. He's still around but he's moved on to other ventures, like crypto and sportsbetting. Not sure if he (or anyone else) would be willing to stake or loan me again, but I'll ask around if I go busto.

Thanks squid face! Yeah it definitely felt like an achievement getting this. Now I have to do the complete opposite of what I did to get the gold card and gamble less.

Thanks elearner, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the thread!

And yeah funnily enough, I actually bought dumbbells recently too. Haven't used them much yet, but I plan to really start prioritising exercise and health this month.

I didn't put villain on 99-JJ when he 4bet pre. I was expecting those hands to either fold or cold-call my 3bet instead.

And thank you! I'll need it.

Are you not happiest with the lifestyle you have now because look where you were ~3 years ago. With your girl and broke with your parents. Look where you are now. Somehow in a worse spot than when you started your previous thread but going on with the same (horrible) plan.

It just doesn't matter what you won. You're like a store owner who says "I made 40k!!!" but neglects the part where they went out of business because they spent >$40k in expenses and could no longer operate. Would you call him a success? No, you wouldn't. You'd call him delusional. And that's you.

Bad analogy cause I made $40k profit (after expenses), not $40k in winnings/revenue.

And nah I'm in a better position now than 3 years ago:
1) I'm more skilled at poker and chess.
2) I've had more life experience.
3) I'm happily married.
4) My wife has PR now and we've paid all the costs and completed all the paperwork associated with that.

So I have made progress.

So you have $40k right now then? How old are you?

Because you said this to me directly, I will say this to you directly:

You didn't quit gambling. You've been playing roulette and baccarat as recently as, what a week or two ago? Stop lying to yourself.
You're not making conscious decisions right now (and you actually cannot make good decisions) because you are in the whirlwind of your gambling addiction.
You've been on this treadmill for 3+ years now, and you have an $800 roll. ANY objective person who read this thread would conclude that you should do something else.

Good luck getting your EV back through watered down casino alcohol.

Season 3 (or is it 4???) is off to a phenomenal start

Hang on, so you currently have a $800 life roll? and its all on the tables?

I play online, not live. Not sure about 4 bet range in live games.
I could be wrong here but imo you played it well. Also I like your thought process on being balanced.

Check AQs,QQ,KQs,QJs,KK,JJ flop/turn at a high frequency, bet river.(KK few times, you decide to play tricky/JJ check river at some frequency if you have a club)
Also your bluff should include AJs,KJs.

do you practice meditation? how do you study?

good luck at the tables

One good thing about 6bet is that he is generous and is willing to share with his friends. Keep that up 6bet. He also takes care of his wife's family which is his own cause he's married to her. Also he's another aussie like myself.

Are you dumb or just being intentionally obtuse? You know exactly what was being said. You made money and it's gone. That's all there is to it. Be proud you made money but don't be delusional that you were or are a successful poker professional or professional gambler because it's obvious to everyone that you're not. There's a reason that season came to an end and it ain't because you were successful.

So I have made progress.
1) Poker and chess will lead you nowhere in life.
2) You obviously haven't learned anything from your "life experiences" in the past 3 years. if you did, you would see you have more of a problem than a talent or profession.
3) great job getting married! progress!
4) "My wife has PR now and we've paid all the costs and completed all the paperwork associated with that.". Great job!

Its 99% likely someone would bust playing 2/5 with $800, whats the bet he hits a sudden miracle heater and runs it up?
12-05-2021 , 04:13 AM
Update OP? Surely there is somewhere online you can play with your $800? 25nl or something like that. Although you won't get to take advantage of unlimited alcohol I guess.
12-05-2021 , 05:54 AM
Not feeling good about this update...

Honestly was tempted to just disappear for a bit and not update the thread at all... But I figure I owe you guys an update. And this thread thrives on transparency and openness. So here goes:

I degen'd hard last night. And I don't feel good about it. I don't feel proud of myself for what I did.

It was a Saturday night and I went out for drinks with a few mates. Gradually as the night goes on, people start to leave. There's 5 of us at 10pm at a bar. Then 3 of us at 1am at a different bar. Then just 2 of us at 4am getting free drinks at the casino. Then just me.

I look up the train timetable and I need to wait till 6:50am to get a train home. I'm alone in the casino. And I decide to "save money" by not paying for a taxi or Uber home (worst f**king mistake I made).

So I start playing roulette whilst getting a free hot chocolate with my gold card. The plan is to bet small and just chill here for a couple hours to kill time. I'm pretty drunk and I want to sober up a bit before I walk to the train station.

I start losing. I'm down $100. So I rebuy another $100. Lose that too. Rinse and repeat until I'm down $500.

I couldn't believe it. I told myself I wasn't going to gamble this night at all, and now I'm down half my f**king bankroll.

As I was leaving the casino at 6:30am I ran into some guy I know. He seemed happy to see me and asked what I'm doing here, but I just straight up told him that I need to get out of here ASAP and can't talk. Didn't want to spend another minute in the casino.

I eventually catch the train and stumble home. I get into the kitchen at 8am to make myself some 2 minute noodles and my mum is awake and getting ready for work. "Did you have fun?" she asks. "Yeah... kind of" I reply. Then I eat those noodles and fall asleep in bed, wishing I didn't ruin what would've been an otherwise good night.
12-05-2021 , 06:41 AM
well, this isn't a chock to anyone but yourself. the only part of the story that is confusing to me how $500 is half of $800 and how you managed to not lose it all. my guess is you didn't have any more cash on hand, thus had to quit.

have you told your wife about your problems or is she under the illusion that you're a poker superstar? when are you checking into gambling anonymous? maybe AA is a good idea alongside it.
