Agreed on the double barrel being questionable but he's a very good player so gave it some thought.
Thanks! It was just a few dollars shy so I won't consider it a 5 fig day yet

So yesterday I tried to take a nap at 1am to wake up and play more but ended up sleeping for 6 hours, not quite a full nights sleep so I napped a little this afternoon. But I got in decent volume yesterday, 6 hours and almost 7 so far today. Going to get a few more today as it is Friday night although I have a friend staying the night that will complicate things. Results are solid! So far at 69.283/150k. Really running it up, this is my August so far:
$1,663
$2,154
$0
-$877
$6,475
-$1,521
$9,923
$554
$7,006
$5,861

I got on a new site too that has stupid rake but a good rb deal so I'll see how that experiment goes. Games are weird and I can't tell how bad/good the players are yet over a two day sample.

Maybe this is really bad? I'm honestly not sure. Maybe could size down 4bb or so but otherwise don't know what to do. It's crazy that I'm running so pure but still dumping in spots like this

Poker Stars, $2.50/$5 Pot Limit Omaha Cash, 4 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. View Hand #37935845

    BTN: $1,158.18 (231.6 bb)
    SB: $163.50 (32.7 bb)
    Hero (BB): $516 (103.2 bb)
    CO: $320.31 (64.1 bb)

    Preflop: Hero is BB with J A 7 5
CO folds, BTN raises to $17.50, SB folds, Hero calls $12.50

    Flop: ($37.50) 8 6 2 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $36, Hero calls $36

    Turn: ($109.50) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $55, Hero raises to $148.72, BTN raises to $554.16, Hero folds

    Spoiler:
    Results: $406.94 pot ($1.50 rake)
    Final Board: 8 6 2 8
BTN mucked and won $405.44 ($203.22 net)
    Hero mucked J A 7 5 and lost (-$202.22 net)

It was alright. So a friend of mine came thru and had a few tabs on him. It was more of a split second decision rather than a planned adventure but I decided to take them around 11pm. I enjoyed being outside during the trip because of how sharply I perceived my environment and how engaging with people felt more intimate. I got to watch some really dope multi-colored lights shimmering on a river that were coming from the balconies of townhouses and talk to my friends about love and relationships. A few other things happened, did a line and played a poor game of chess, went out on a pub crawl and talked into the late hours of the morning as well as took more acid maybe halfway thru. Around 6am when my last friend left and I went to fall asleep is when the tripping really kicked in. The hairs on my arm started to grow and the hairless section of my arm had long hairs curling out of it. The shadow formed from the crook of my elbow expanded as I relaxed my vision and I could see a narrow band of bright gold shoot across my vision as sharply curved lettering burned into it in black with a greenish hue. After it had drawn out, the darkness splintered into pieces and was replaced with kaleidoscopic polygons like a rounded tessellation that twirled about. Around then I refocused my eyes because I didn't want to wig out too much and I noticed a teddy bear next to me that I carry as a memento from a girl at uni. I consciously ignored it at first because I didn't want to animate it in my mind but eventually I worked up the courage to acknowledge him. He was fine although his eyes looked disappointed in me for some reason. I keenly remember being aware of how single I am. I really do miss having a partner, then and now, and I tried to rewrite my okcupid bio , would not recommend that. At the time I was re-prioritizing work and relationships to switch my emphasis towards finding a partner. Wondering about whether I should travel around the world looking to meet as many people as I can and try to find someone to spend my life with. After I sobered up fully (which took till the next evening) I realized that those ideas were mostly caused by the LSD and my sober self isn't actually that lonely. I do go on a lot of dates, there just isn't the substance that I would hope for with any of them, yet at least. I was worried that tripping would make me become aware of some underlying moral conflict involved with playing poker or landlording but thankfully nothing like that was triggered. Instead, if anything, it made me want to work less and find a partner. Don't worry though, since my trip I have redoubled my efforts to put in good volume and played a full Sunday yesterday. I'm glad I did it but it's not something I would repeat anytime soon and I don't think it had the degree of impact on me that it would have if I had taken it a few years ago. I've emphasized ongoing self-reflection/evaluation and truthful introspection as core aspects of my being since '13 or so and as a result I don't think there were truths to uncover during my trip. With that said, maybe a few more trips would unearth some things, but I don't intend on trying that anytime soon. I'm happy with my life. Life is good.

So I got in 7.5 hours yesterday which was alright, booked a 7.6k win. I had a really nice time with my friend that came over, I just got home from grabbing coffee while seeing her off. Today feels like it's going to be a really productive day. We still have some yellowtail to finish off so hopefully she drops by again tonight. Up all this $$ but still I spend 6 pounds on wine

Have been reading some stuff over the years here at the forum, even though I haven’t posted anything yet. But I have to say that this thread is one of the best I’ve come across.
Probably also since I’m seeing myself in a lot of things you write. Finished my master’s degree in economics before the summer and will take a shot at poker this fall (and see how it goes), as I’m finally free from all obligations. Earlier this year my plan was to grind cg, starting from plo100 (only been playing plo for a year, but like the game, and the value obv). However, during the summer my MTT results has been crazy, so hard to decide which game to focus on. Will start a pgc thread myself in a month.

Anyways, good luck with the grind! I’ll continue to follow your journey

Thanks, I appreciate it. Feel free to contribute if topics come up related to your field, I'd be very interested to hear your POV. Plo is the way to go imo mtt variance is so frustrating to deal with but I'm probably biased.

I'm a little over 8 hours into today, it might be possible to get another hour or two in depending on how I am feeling. Not really in the mood to go out tonight and drink. I pulled my $$ off that new site, the games just play too big for me. Today I'm stuck about 2.7k so at 68.253/150k

Do you prefer playing plo online more than live. I haven't played plo online but the rare plo game that gets started at my cardroom is insanely good. Im considering putting in a lot more hours in live plo when i move to a casino that spreads it regularly. What would you say are your main reasons for playing online plo more than live?

    Play nice

Yeah I definitely prefer online to live because I play a lot of tables so I'm constantly making decisions. I don't have to sit there and play four hands an hour. Also live plo variance is glacial it can take years to converge on EV so what's the point if it's the primary vehicle for doing your job. You're just gambling on the macro level at the end of the day. That applies more to high stakes live plo than low stakes because of the difference in edges and stack depths. My graph this year doesn't really have variance because of the volume I put in.

Here: x axis is hours from jan 1-aug11 this year, y axis is $ won from aug 16-aug11 so pretty much my first year as a pro although I went full time technically end of December.

    Spoiler:

See what I mean? Now if you play live you'll get some months where you get absolutely torched when you brick your 5 biggest pots and there's no way to rostucko. Although I still had a roughly 400 hour break-even stretch (maybe 150-180k hands?)

Yea I would consider adding in live plo as a major part of my hours after I'm past the ~400k mark and can play 25/50 without an issue but even at that point I'll still most likely want to play mostly online.

Today is going so-so. I punted the nut flush blocker into a straight flush and made a few river calls that are def gto but might not be good vs capable regs that might not be as capable as I think. I'm somewhat deep in a plo mtt so hopefully I take that home. 4 hours in so far, got another few in the tank

Bad juju'd my way out of the mtt by talking about it. I got in 7.5 hours which I'm ok with, I would have liked to do another half hour to hit my target but I was very tired.

After talking to a friend and going over my initial goals from this thread, I still want to try and be a 2kpl reg by the end of the year. For my volume goal of 1000 hours aug1-end of year, if I accomplish that with a good amount of 1kpl I don't see why I wouldn't be ready for 2kpl. I won't be rushing anything as the last half year has been a protracted shot taking experience so I definitely need to settle into 1kpl first. But I think having the target of playing 2kpl by Christmas is a VERY aggressive goal and it's something that I should pursue. I know I can do it. My schedule looks something like 5658988 mon-sun and I've been including around an hour and a half of studying each day that goes towards the total. So my real hours at the table for this 1000 hour goal will be around 800 or so. That studying is really important though as it's helping me elevate my game. Anyway yeah I'm going to shoot for it.

I've got a birthday dinner at Nobu tonight! Should be hype, will be nice to enjoy some of what I've earned

    College aged.

I got in 6:45 today which is decent considering I was out this evening for a nice dinner and drinks with a friend. I punted in a spot that's just dumb and it feels bad. x/r a AJ3cc with AcKT2 vs an EP & CO that are both spots where EP cbet half pot. I x/r got called twice and pot-called a brick spr 1.1. It's really really bad. I know it is, I just saw the small sizing so figured weaker ranges and I could bluff some clubs. I also need to 3bet light less vs non-pot sized opens. It's getting me into bad postflop spots that were fine at 500 but not 1k. I'll play better next time.

sick stuff man. read through the 1st few pages and then skipped back to here. Going to have to review some of the PLO hands

I knew from the first few posts you were destined for success and $, keep it up. Your quotes and thread have been inspiring and fun too read. You are heading in the right direction young buck.

here for the PLO and RE. I have listened to Rich D Poor D on audiobook recently and going through it a second time even, now on Keller's, Millionaire RE Investor.

You saying that poker is a negative net loss for society in your opening paragraphs stuck out to me. It really is true though. It's not a great habit. When everyone is showing up to take each other's money and sit around in the process (plus often time other unhealthy stuff, especially live environments), it is really undeniable that most(all) of their times could be spent doing something much better.

Thanks man I'm content with it but I have bigger goals. I should have had ~1200 hours in that graph but I didn't take my job seriously enough. Come Christmas this year hopefully I'll have a 1600 hour graph (year) to show.

Ya enjoy. Thanks I appreciate it. I'll look into the Keller book, what are some of your take-aways from it so far? With respect to real estate, I was interested to hear the other day of harry dent's suggestion that the upcoming slowdown in the markets will be from the top not the bottom. Have you heard of this?

Today's just started, got in two hours so far. I've got a quick date later tonight then will play afterwards. At 76.336/150k and 75:08/200:00 for the month. Probably won't hit 200 hours since I'll be traveling some at the end of the month but it's still something to shoot for. Maybe I could put in a few extra hours on the weekends.

I am very amateur in my RE journey. I have no properties and I only recently started reading about it and trying to get some traction with it.

Keller basically preaches a millionaire real estate mindset. It kind of delves in and out of some successful real estate stories. Basically, buy, rent, and hold. Get cash flow going and then your property usually goes up in value =hard to beat and then scale upward.

Pretty happy with the day and it's good to continue getting in some big volume trying to catch up on my monthly goal that's now at 88/200 hours. I need to average 7 hours for the rest of the month which seems pretty doable.
