Hey 2+2,

This is to challenge myself. My goal is to climb the stakes from scratch (2nl) up to high stakes (1000nl). I can do this in 9 months. My mission will be divided into 2 phases.

"MISSION POSSIBLE 1.0": From 2nl to 200nl in 100 days

Starting point: 40$ bank (20 BI for 2nl)
Target: 7,000$ (35 BI for 200nl)
Network: partypoker
Starting date: 3 March 2023
Deadline: 11 June 2023 (100 days, ~ 14 weeks)

BANK
  • 2nl -> 20 buy ins (40$ starting bank)
  • 5nl -> 20 buy ins (100$)
  • 10nl -> 20 buy ins (200$)
  • 25nl -> 20 buy ins (500$)
  • 50nl -> 25 buy ins (1250$)
  • 100nl -> 30 buy ins (3000$)
  • 200nl -> 40 buy ins (7000$, challenge completed)

***** ONLY NET WON COUNT TOWARD THE CHALLENGE (all side promotions are excluded - rakeback, bonuses, races, etc)

BASIC RULES

- Only regular 6-max cash tables (fast poker tables are excluded).
- Minimum 3k hands a day (6 days a week).
- Minimum 6-8 hours/day divided into sessions of 1,5 – 2 hours each, mainly 6 tables at once.
- MOVE DOWN – 5 buy-ins net loss.

I'm aiming for 10-15bb+/100 on micro stakes (2nl to 25nl) and 10bb+/100 on low stakes (50nl & 100nl).
I'll be posting my results once a week or every 15-20k hands.

And we're just getting started…

"MISSION POSSIBLE 2.0": From 200nl to 1000nl in 200 days

Starting point: 7,000$ bank (35 BI for 200nl)
Target: 60,000$ (60 BI for 1000nl)
Network: partypoker … I will probably add 2nd room because of the poor traffic at these stakes
Starting date: to be clarified after Phase #1 completed
Deadline: to be clarified after Phase #1 completed but no later than 300 days from starting point (March 3, 2023)

BANK
  • 200nl -> 35 buy ins (7000$ starting bank)
  • 500nl -> 50 buy ins (25000$)
  • 1000nl -> 60 buy ins (60000$, challenge completed)

Same rules as phase one apply. I'm aiming for 6-7bb+/100 on 200nl and 4-5bb+/100 on 500nl.

  • What's your skill level? Are you beating 1KNL prior to the challenge?
  • What's the move-down plan when downswings occur?

Nope, I was playing 100nl and 200nl, shooting 500nl but failed. I've had a tough year away from the tables and I was quite far from my A-game (not even B-game lately).

I'll keep it very simple for Phase #1 - 5BI shots when moving up, 20BI loss and moving down. I may keep the rakeback as margin of safety until I reach 50-60BI bank (that will happen in Phase #2 actually, when I reach the 10-12k bank for 200nl).

What are your plans for studying and improving to ensure that you can beat the 200NL+ games when you get back there?

I get the sort of fun challenge of turning $40 into $60K or whatever, but what is your end goal here? If it's just to be a 1knl winner, I think the time you're going to be spending crushing microstakes fish with ABC poker would be better spent studying the advanced strategies you will need to beat the bigger games you ultimately want to get to. Reduce your volume, but play in some bigger games like 100/200, but spend a LOT more time off table studying. Just a thought. Good luck though.

Just completed 10nl, moving to 25nl. I haven't taken a day off yet but that doesn't bother me as I feel good and I run pretty decently so I'll play for a few more days before taking a break.
Games are still very soft, almost no regs which actually surprised me.

RESULTS SO FAR

2nl to 5nl - in 4 days, 60.75$ profit (~30 BI), 20.41 bb/100
5nl to 10nl - in 3 days, 100.84$ profit (~20 BI), 17.82 bb/100
10nl to 25nl - in 3 days, 303.21$ profit (~30 BI), 24.36 bb/100

Overall: from 2nl to 25nl in 10 days, 38 645 hands and 80 BI profit, 20.92 bb/100

The deadline to get to 200nl is 100 days but I think I will manage to do it within two months , so I'll not spend that much time at the micros.

My main focus right now is to spend as many hours a day as possible playing (obv my A-game) until I beat the mircos and get back to 100nl. Then I will pay much more attention to studying, spending few hours a day working with solvers (never have), coaching websites, database analysis, also probably getting a personal coach for Phase #2.

Greetings, poker fellows

It's been a while since my last update, but I want to assure you that I'm still fully committed to the challenge. I've put in a tremendous amount of hard work (8+ hours a day), with almost no days off - I've only taken one day off in the last 20 days.

Regrettably, my results since moving up to 25NL over the last 35-40k hands have not met my expectations, and I've been facing a challenging downswing. During these difficult times, I didn't always play my A-game. There were moments of tilt, frustration, and self-doubt. However, I'm optimistic that this difficult period is now in my rearview mirror. While it's been a humbling experience, I remain committed to personal and professional growth as a poker player. I firmly believe that adversity presents us with the greatest opportunities for self-improvement, and I'm excited to learn from this experience and come back stronger than ever.

I'm hopeful that the downswing has run its course and that I'll be able to move up to 50NL within the end of next week.

I understand that my goal of reaching NL1k in less than 9 months may seem audacious to some. But I've always believed that with hard work, discipline, and a bit of luck, anything is possible in this game. I'm committed to putting in the hours, putting in the study, and putting in the effort required to make this challenge a reality.

I appreciate all of the support and encouragement I've received thus far, and I promise to keep you all updated on my progress as I continue to grind my way up the high stakes.

Mission Possible,
Dr. Vintage

Hey guys,

Well, my recent run of misfortune at the tables seems to persist. Despite this setback, I'm determined to keep working hard and improving my game, and I hope that by sharing my experiences with all of you, we can all grow together and overcome the challenges that come with the game.

But let us not lose sight of our purpose. Starting today, I'll be posting daily updates here on my progress. I'll be sharing graphs and some of my most challenging hands, that we may all benefit from the collective wisdom and experience of our community.

I'm committed to posting at least five days a week, and I'll make sure to provide monthly graphs as well.

    Today, I came very close to reaching my profit target of $750 (30 BI for 25nl), which would have allowed me to shoot 50nl. However, a few suck outs and I missed it by 5-10$. I hope to achieve my profit goal tomorrow and movin' up.

    Hands: 6,4k, 9+ hours played
    Profit: +142$ (~ 5.7 BI), 8.9bb/100

    Hey guys,

    It's time for another update on my poker journey. After grinding it out for over 125 hours and a whopping 70K hands, I've officially achieved my next goal and made a profit of $750 at 25nl (30 buy-ins), which means it's time to move up.

    Honestly, I thought I'd crush 25nl a lot quicker with a higher win rate, but variance can be a cruel mistress. I faced a challenging downswing that lasted for about 35-40k hands and to make matters worse, my game wasn't on point either, which led to some costly mistakes. That being said, I still managed to finish 25nl with a profit of 4.31bb/100 hands, and I'm feeling pretty damn confident that I'm gonna crush 50nl with an even higher winrate (aiming at 10bb+/100).

    I set out with a lofty goal: to achieve a win rate of 10-15bb+/100 on micro stakes. And guess what? Even I may have landed on the lower end with an average win rate of 10.21bb/100, that's already checked off ✔️ I'm feeling confident that I can keep pushing and hit my next target in no time.

    Since embarking on this challenge, I have only allowed myself one day off in the last 25 days. However, I began to feel exhausted and realized that my focus on the game was waning. Upon reflection, I identified that my mistake was playing for extended periods of time without adequate rest. Today, I already played for almost 2 hours and plan to play another 4-5 hours to evaluate my game at 50nl, and tomorrow I will take a day off. Moving forward, I plan to limit my daily gameplay to 6-7 hours, with an additional 1-2 hours dedicated to studying, for a total of 7-8 hours per day focused on playing and improving my poker skills. I will also take one day of rest per week.

    RESULTS SO FAR

    2nl to 5nl - 14 822 hands in 3 days, 60.75$ profit (~30 BI), 20.41 bb/100
