Right, seems like everyone is starting one of those so I thought I got to start one myself.
I am Rednaxela747 on Stars and at 38 possibly the oldest person playing 1knl on Stars as a reg. But a bit about my background. After completing my PhD in Math London I had a successful career in investment banking. During that time I played a tiny bit of poker but as a fish. I rember going to Vegas in 2010 and sitting down at what I thought was a fixed limit holdem table only to discover it was a no limit table (which I never played before). I also could not remember whether a flush or a straight was better. Anyway, I stayed seated as was embarressed to stand up. Needless to say I lost my buy-in within 15 minutes. Though I started to do some reading straightaway, and I somehow managed to win some turbo donkament there on the day of my departure.
Did not play much poker after for a long time but in the middle of 2011 I decided I wanted to try and see if can become a poker pro (as my job was coming to an end by the end of the year) and do something that I thought I would enjoy. I started doing some reading straightaway and played some NL10FR on Stars at the start (1 tabling like a boss of course). By the end of the year when I went pro I was beating NL200FR on up to 14 tables. On 9 Aug 12 I made the best decision of my poker career which was to move to NL 200 6max. Less than a month later I was playing NL400 6max and added FR back to my game selection. Shortly after I was playing NL600 and by the beginning of December I was also playing NL1k and dropped NL400 mostly. I never had a losing month since starting out and I never looked back on my decision.
Here is my graph since going pro until today (pre rakeback and excluding tourneys and live winning):
Goals for the year:
- Make $250k from online poker
- Play the WSOP Main Event
