Oh **** the master thesis. Brings back some ‘bad’ memories. Basically I spent the whole summer writing it to only hear I failed it and have to rework it and hand it in again in january. I think my biggest problem was the communication with my promotor, which was quite non-existent (we both were to blame for that I guess). She answered always very late, was out of office all the time, or didnt even bother to reply in some instances. We also never met in person meanwhile and the only we had a conversation was while she woke me up with a call at 10am while I was on holiday rofl. Not saying my thesis was my greatest work ever, but when I finished I def felt like it would be good enough to pass still. During my presentation/defense it became quite clear that she didn’t like it as it was not what she had in mind basically. She then also sort of stabbed me in the back claiming that I should have made more use of her etc anyway was a total ****show and perhaps my biggest dissapointment so far. Bottom line I’d def advise you to take the advice of your promotor seriously, since that he/she is one of the judges in the end.

Also wrt time management, it’s super hard to combine it with poker properly (esp mtt’s). I think planning your days is very important in that regard and don’t end up doing two things half-ass at the same time. Best of luck

Generally I would agree with going with his advice but at this instance I think I would rather just do it my way. He also said he was just suggesting and it was up to me to decide

I can relate to you situation tho. Its like that with most of people in Czech republic aswell, at least on public schools. But given theres only like 9 people in our class everything is just way more personal and teachers just remember everybody and they also dont have to promote hundreds of works but only like 3-4.

Also given they only have couple of students to take care of, they have plenty of time to work with them. Especially my promoter is the kind of guy who will just not let me to the actual exam unless hes sure its good enough to pass. So we will see

Sunday

So weird sunday. Its been only like 12 days since I last played poker but I always have this "dinasour effect" where I feel super rusty. And I knew this time would be the same so I started earlier and played low table count just to warmup a bit and get things going in a good way. I was also trying out new TN2 with this little baby I bought.

Now obviously I didnt really want to start implementing too many hotkeys on Sunday but I was just trying to implement some of them. It felt really good but theres quite a lot of bugs in TN2 which will make me reconsider whether or not to use it.

Anyways, I was coming to the session in a really good mood. I was looking forward to it, I did all the prep needed, meditated before etc. Just overall in a pretty good mindset.

The session went really well. I think I played quite well and I was happy with most of my decisions. There were perhaps couple of them where I could´ve done sth differently but overall didnt make any mistake where Id be mad at myself. I managed to make couple of very nice runs. I FT bubbled the STARTER on winamax, unfortunate but was a nice run. Then I built a great stack in the BB215 where I busted in a hand that was one of the decisions I couldve approached differently. Im in the SB w AKs and rec 4x CO with 80BBs behind. I decided to 3b gii which again Im not really sure about but cant be bad imo. I also had a huge bounty at that stage so mustve been ok. I also had a great run in the bb109 where I came 12th unfortunately. The field left was great but nothing I could do. And lastly I managed to come 2nd in the TOP 50 on winamax for 6K-ish. I was super happy about that. Especially after getting super lucky on the FT couple of times. So overall great Sunday, really pumped for playing in the upcoming days. We are getting close to the watch

Im looking to do things way more balanced now so I shouldnt really get into some kinda burnout mode. One thing that bothers me is that I feel like I havent done much studying as far as poker is concerned. Ever since I moved to Dresden I felt just like playing because I felt Ive done more than enough studying in the period of time I wasnt able to play. But now I feel like I could use more studying if I want to meet my goal. Will have to implement it in my schedule somehow which is already quite full

There should be couple of interesting coachings Im looking forward to. Tomorrow theres Goose.core focusing on 3b pots. Hes asked us to post some 3b spots so I did and Im ready get some criticism Also im having 1-1 with Elmerixx this month. Very happy to work with the OGs of BitB

School stuff

As I said, Im gonna focus a bit on the school stuff aswell as I have to. I did some programming today again and Im happy with how I progressed. Im not sure Ive mentioned what it is actually that Im supposed to do so Im gonna mention it again. Im supposed to mine data from this forum and from all the text Im gonna have I have to filter adverts and distinguish whether its a sell offer or a buy offer. Then distinguish what it is theyre offering/looking for. Right now Im working on distinguishing between sell/buy. I had around 40K adverts in my db today and in the morning I started with around 40% rate of "distinguish succes rate". Right now Im at like 86% with some minor bugs. Realistically Im at around 75% which I think is super nice given how unstructured the adverts are. Tomorrow Im gonna work on filtering key words. This should be the major part of the programme. Finding the thing that is being sold/wanted is the sole problem of the thesis. So we will see, its going ok so far.

i start using TN2 jan 2016 for for table layouts and FOLD hotkey(888/party)
after one month i stop using TN2 when it auto called off at 1k main 25bb out of 40bb stack in SB vs HJ open and BTN shove at 888 with K3o (i realize after couple hand what happend when i see my stack left.it had also happend previously but in some cheaper MTTs where instead of folding it was calling open raise)and never ever use it again or will use it

Poker

Last couple of days have been fun. Monday was about not being able to build stacks at all but Tuesday was about building stacks all over the place. Ive enjoyed both days tho. I feel pretty good while playing now, more relaxed, confident and creative. I also like the way of how my usual day looks like right now. Obviously its far away from what Id like it to be but its better than its been before.

I tend to spend soem time after waking up by doing stuff to school while at the same time runnign pio scripts (saves time) altho the computer noise is not gto at all Then I just prepare my meals, get ready to grind, do the warmup (go over the sims) and then start playing. I feel like the more diverse the day is the better. But as I said, it couldve been better for sure.

Back to the runs tho. I managed to make a bunch of them on tuesday. I came 8th in the b44 which was a rollercoaster on ft. First I won a flip then I won AJvAQ then I lost JJvAJ and then JJvAK so ups and downs all over the place. Then I had another run in the counterpunch on party where I came 12th where I couldnt win JJv33vAKs for chiplead pot. It was nice to have such runs tho.

Poker studying

So as I mentioned in previous posts and in posts during wcoop I wanted to get back into studying hard while at the same time playing quite a lot aswell. So I came up with this studying method of just using it as a warmup. I created a plan of what spots I want to go over and what Im gonna do is just build some scripts over the subset of boards I work with and while studying for school Id let them run. Then before the session I will spend 0.5-1hrs of studying these sims and node-locking them. I will create a "diary" of notes where Im gonna note some patterns etc. Should be an interesting structured project.

We had a coachign yesterday from goose.core. I was looking forward to it obviously. The whole coaching was great even tho most of my hands werent reviewed I got lots and lots of value from it. One thing I didnt really like was goose just stating all the time that we should just run pio sims to get an answer. While I definitely agree with that I also disagree. When theres a request of posting hands I expect the coaching to be about discussing tendencies and exploits in the hand otherwise the better option would be to just run a theory based coaching, let everyone chose a spot and run a script and lead a discussion over all those spots.

I think that would be way more efficient but when its about hands it should probably be more about specifics in the hand rather than general strategies. But again I definitely agree wtih how goose approaches studying and thats why I also decided to implement that "warmup". My end goal is to have a pretty good idea of whats optimal and what are the best exploits in most common spots.

School

So I made a little bit of progress today again in the application. Im basically past the point of parsing the text word by word and sort them by their appearances. Surprisingly there is no c++ library that would delete special characters from a string so I had to implement it myself. I also wrote a function to get rid of all the useless words such as conjunctions, prepositions etc. So decent progress there. Right now I was thinking how to proceed. Im probably gonna start implementing a fuction to search for the price. Then I was also thinking whether or not to implement something like a database of all english words and checking each word with that database so that we filter out all the other unwanted words. Will have to discuss that further cause that would take up probably a lot of processing time.

gto meal today

I def feel the same that we should use piosolver etc to actually have a good idea of the GTO "solutions" and deviate from there. Merely copying piosolver in all spots would be a huge mistake I think in mtts. It's funny I never noticed you at my tables on stars, but that's probably a good thing bc when I would you pbb did something I didn't agree with

I actually enjoy using it a lot. Especially with this naga mouse its epic. I was worried about that issue aswell tho but I sorted it with a "secure" button. I only use set-bet hotkeys and then use another one for the actual bet. I tend to double check sizing so it should be fine. Hopefully

Yeah I mean knowing whats optimal is actually crucial obviously. Its pretty easy to come up with exploits with knowing whats optimal

I dint use TN2 for betsiznig or call at all i just use it for table layout for party 888 and fold/check hotkey
So while layout worked great i had this issue on 888 when i preclick fold ( via mouse hotkey) and instead of folding it called - i guess it was a bug when i have 888 tables at min size and when preclick hotkey to fold it was checking call any bet box instead of fold to any bet box, so i will sugest to be carefully with that and dont use min size gor tables ( which i guess u dont use because u are not playing too many tables, i was having 5x3 (15 )tile table layout on 32" when those things happened )

Poker

Pretty funny day today. I skipped the warmup yesterday because I spend a bit too much time programming but I still built the trees aswell as today. I browsed them today and it gives me good feeling. Obviously my confidence is getting silghtly better and also Im way more creative during game which is nice. Its getting quite tough already with the scheduling stuff. With these new habits the overall schedule is just ***** pumped. I wish I didnt have to sleep.

Anyways, today was fun. I was building stacks everywhere. Like literally everywhere. Card distribution was really on my side today and it was pretty enjoyable to play. I managed to final table the fast friday where I came 8th and also final tabled the Xtase on winamax where I came 6th. So pretty meh, cant get anything giong on FTs which is like super super frustrating but whatevs.

Also had like 10 FT bubbles during the last 3 days which was meh too. Especially when I decided to stop regging at like 22:00 and I most FT bubbles were on party at like 4 Not great. But enjoying the runs, Im also chipleading the uppercut right now so still sth to go with. Hopefully we can make it a profitable month and scoop dem watches

EDIT: Lol just busted the uppercut. Didnt even cash. Ran JJ into KT on QJxx9 in 3b pot

School

As far as school goes I took thursday off. I just didnt feel like doing anything so I just chilled a bit. Today I spent all the time modifying this programme that my friend sent me. He basically re-made my data-mining programme because I told him it was super slow. So he wrote a similar programme in c++ and I had to go over it today. Its supposed to be 20x times faster which would be nice but it will take quite a bit of time before I make it going. We will see.

I see. Yeah the table size seems to matter quite a bit and I think that may have cause the problems. I dont really have issues with that most things go smoothly

Surprise surprise MFers, the king is back!

Thats how I felt during the Sunday Finally I played a session where I was just confident, enjoyed playing and possibly played my best poker ever. That combined with a decent card distribution was really great. Obviously its because of me studying more but I feel way more confident right now and just overall better. It might sound funny that after one or two study sessions I would be a better poker player but its more about just the confidence part. I think its really important to have high level of conficence and Im happy its coming back. As far as Sunday grind goes, I made a FT of a small 888 torney but other than that nothing much really. I busted AA vs JTo in the ACR million near the bubble which hurt but its allright.

Monday
I started later than I usually do because I did some stuff to school. I had decent ammount of runs. I FTed the deepstack monsoon, came 8th I think. Then couple of f2ts on 888 (getting old ) and then I managed to FT b44. Finally it was a FT which gave me lots and lots of ladders. Basically every shortstack busted before me so that was nice. I ended up being 3handed with a stable fellow who I had position on and a recreational. I really liked the way I played. I made it to the HU which tilted me so bad The guy was pretty bad and I should have very high winrate vs him. But there was this one pot where he lost 70% of his chips and had like 40BBs left. From then on, he started jamming just every hand That lasted for about 10 minutes. Obv when I limped TT he checked back. Then he stacked me with KK on 943 5 J and from then on I didnt hit a board and he just crushed me. I was super super tilted but I guess it happens. Profitable day so very happy about that.
Gonna take day off tomorrow because there is coaching and I also have to do stuff to school. I will probably jsut play a shorter session in the evening perhaps.

I wanted to do a little bit writing for my thesis instead of coding this week. So I started and man was it tough to start You know that feeling when you just have no idea where to start and every other activity including stuff like cleaning up seems to be more enjoyable Anyways I wrote about 2 pages so happy about that too.

Baby we did it. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. #2

Had an absolutely amazing session yesterday. It was undoubtedly thee best session I have ever played as far as runs go. I started off later than usual and that was due to me doing some stuff to school and also there was a coaching from 4pm with Diego Ventura. The coaching was good, pretty interactive between everybody so thats what I like. Im sure I sometimes drive others crazy by asking so many questions but hey, thats how I learn Decided to skip my pio/meditation warmup this time because I considered the coaching as a warmup.

The session went really really superb, I had so many deep runs. At one point I had like 6 deep runs. It was the bb109, bb33, uppercut, 11$ 8 max and b55. I was enjoying the whole thing a lot, felt in the zone and super confident. I also got super lucky in numerous spots, especially in the b55 and bb109 so that felt good too. I ended up finishing 10th in the b55,11th in the 11$ 8 max, like 25th-ish in th uppercut and like 30th in the bb33 but most importantly I managed to ship the damn bb109. Felt obviously super super happy about that. I think I played well. There were couple of spots where I probably didnt get as much value as I shouldve but I am still pretty happy with how I performed.

So yea, super happy now and pumped for playing. And guess what, only 600$ to clear and we´re getting them watches. It feels so close but so far aswell. Weird Hopefully I can get to buy them as soon as possible. Would be such a relief after being 14 months+ in MU.

As far as school goes Im also pretty happy with my progress. I wrote like 5 pages of the thesis already so thats cool. Its a bit frustrating to having to do things I dont like but its fine. Good distraction as I said. Also one pretty bad thign happened. The site that I was data mining for the advertisements decided to block the IP apparently. No wonder when the script I wrote did like half a million page requests in 2 days lol

And there it is.

So yeah, it took me 14 months to do it but I can finally say that Im out of MU. Super super happy to finally have done it. It was obviously very long time period where I went through many struggles Im sure it reflected to this blog aswell obviously. I think it gave me tons and tons of experience. I learned so many things that one might not even think are important. I developped mainly mentally but also strategically. I developped many new habits that i beleive will help me achieve my ultimate goals. Hopefully some good times ahead of me. I feel really good right now, I feel like a beast in game again.

Im also very happy with my ingame stats. probably happier than ever. Very happy with my ICM play too, Ive became a lot more aware. So yea, just very happy right now overall. Looking forward to playing in the future now. Im gonna play a session today and head home after it. I have classes tomorrow and on Saturday. Will be meeting some friends and my gf on Friday night, looking forward to it. I will also go ahead and get dem watches. Think its nice to have something to remind myself for the bad times.

Btw the tournament that got me out was the TOP 50 on Winamax. I came 3rd after chipleading most of the FT but got a bit unlucky in the end. GG anyways.
