My name is Andrew and I'm a 27 yo semi-pro. I play on pokerstars as l.a.ruseman and ft as wwkrzyzewskid I've been a winning player the last two years, and just starting taking SNG grinding seriously about 6 months ago. I've made between 1200 and 1500 each of the last 6 months but never putting in more than 100 hours. I'm now looking to see if I have what it takes to do this for a living.

$3000 is my goal for this month but by no means what I need to be making to live a comfortable life. I'm setting this challenge for myself as much to see if I can put in the volume as I am to see if I can make the profit. If I find I have what it takes to put in 40+ hours a week, then I'll feel confident in getting coaching and moving up to stakes where I actually can make a comfortable living.

My current stakes are the $5.30 6max super turbos on FT and the $6.50 9mans on Stars. I am the sharkscope leader at my game on Tilt and a decent winner at my game on stars as well. To reach my goal I'm going to need to put in somewhere near 180 hours this month to accomplish it. Here is my tentative schedule.

Mon-Fri

AM 9:30-11 and PM 1-5:30 on FT
PM 8-11 on stars.

Saturday off and Sunday 11-2 on FT and 4-6 on stars.

This is very rough draft and I already know Im gonna miss one weekend for a bachelor party in the middle of the month. Ill also prob cut a couple fridays nights short. Still, Ill try to stick to this as closely as I can and make up for any changes I make.

I'm cheating a little bit as I wont have to make a cold lone 3k. I'm receiving a $450 iron man midyear bonus and another $60 or so in iron medals from the previous month. I always count medals and bonuses as I use them so Im counting the ones from the previous month since I wont be counting the ones I earn this month. I also receive rakeback and will deduct all bonuses from my MGR when applicable.

So my actual volume goals for the month break down like this. I need about 5800 sngs on FT at 4.75% ROI and 1750 sngs on stars at 6% ROI. That is about 1% under my regular ROI (.5% EV adjusted) but Im prob gonna 10 table instead of 8 and do longer sessions. Thats right around my ROI at the $6.5s, but Ive only played about 1k of them lifetime and am still learning the format so I think I could do way better or worse.

I will be putting in some study time on the side, mostly at 9mans since ive played about 13k of the 6max superturbos and feel like I have the format down. I'm hoping to get some people railing me to motivate me to put in the time. I'm happy to answer any questions or comments you guys may have and will be open to any prop bets you guys might want to make.

My initial read was you don't understand the volume needed at your av stake to do this in a month, however my foot was inserted in my future mouth half way through your post. Your volume estimate is only 200 games short of what I estimated it needing to be for your goal. With the fact that you clearly know what you are in for i wish you the best of lucky!

Ever since TNFT added the autocontinous regger, I can do about 45 tourneys per hour. Im prob gonna only be 18 tabling on stars to start but I used to 30 table continuous on DONs so I think I should be able to get upto 24 tables within a week or so.

I think tomorrow Im gonna do a little prep where i play for 1 hour, then take a 30 min break, 2 hours then 30 min break, then 3 hours. The longest sessions Ive been doing are like 2 hours so its gonna be tough to start.

If anyone knows of any good music I could dl, let me know. Listening to music and podcasts is the only thing that allows me to grind.

Im mostly into indie rock and rap. Indie rock bands im into now are Silversun Pickups, Tokyo Police Club, Shout out Louds etc.

Rapwise Im into old school stuff and then the game, Nas, Outkast Jay-Z.

Podcast wise I listen to Pokerroad, Pokerstatic, the 2+2 Podcast and then a couple political podcast. If anyone knows of anything they think Id be into, let me know and Ill dl it and give it a try.

Hey I quite like grinding to Barrelhouse Chuck (blues piano) lately, that aside as it is a bit of an aquired taste eye of the tiger, chariots of fire (enya), black eyed peas - meet me halfway, timbaland - if we ever meet again - and any euro trancy music.

In terms of poker podcast, the 8foldpath by Tommy Angelo is A++++, you don't lose out on any value by just listening to it, although if you want to watch it, it does have some interesting little animations - but basically tailor made for ipod imo.

Nepa, I have about 500 on each site and have a big bonus on ftp to clear plus medals and ftps so it wont be an issue. Prob not gonna move up stakes this month as I really want to hit my 3k goal and moving up stakes will increase variance and put me out of my comfort zone and decrease my volume. I hope to move up to the 16s on stars in a few months. I've played about 600 of the 10.5s on stars and have like -2% ROI and breakeven AIEV ROI. I honestly think my hourly at the 5.3s is as good as almost all of the 10.5 regs.

Thx for the wellwishes everyone. Ill post my end of june graph tomorrow so we know what were working with. Gonna need to double both my hours and profit probably.

Lol smokey dont you make like 2500 a month grinding 20.80s for like 80 hours? Have you noticed the games getting any softer since all those colluders got caught. Even if there werent that many in the 20s, them getting kicked out of the 50s and 100s and those games getting better should have a trickle down effect and make all the lower games softer too.

Actually woke up a 9am this morning. Was thinking that waking up early every morning was gonna be my biggest problem. As long as I dont take a nap today I should be good.

Keeping a reg sleep schedule is one of my biggest problems. Not taking a nap after a long session is sometimes hard to accomplish.

This is something I will be struggling with as well, not looking forward to it

Ok gonna call it quits for June. 85 hours total so need to more than double my hours and more than double my profits. Ironman bonuses are sure gonna help. Probably gonna spend a few hours studying with wiz and HEM tonight and be ready to hit the ground running tomorrow. Gl to everyone this June and Ill try to update every few days.

And we're off. Started on time, played the full 1.5 hours. I gotta say I couldnt have started better. That may be funny seeing as I was 11BIs under EV, but I kept my cool the entire session despite the fact TN was sluggish and I was running so bad. Anyone who hasnt should listen to Tommy Angelo's The Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment (thx IWS) There were so many little things that would have tilted me this session if I hadnt gained some insights from that.
