Welp, Trip Report time!
already accomplished 2/5 goals so far so that's good
, got 40k VPP on vacation which was my "reaching" goal, and booked an apartment for March 15th so i'll be back grinding full time starting the 15th.
[X] 25k VPP while on Vacation
[X] move abroad for Mar 1st or April 1st
[ ] try to get much much healthier this year... working out mostly
[ ] 200k+ profit pre-RB
[ ] SNE in 2013
new apartment pics (right downtown, will be my first time living downtown in a city... ever really, hopefully get to enjoy the perks that comes with and not just grind 16 hrs a day
)
Renting it furnished but obv those donk monitors will obv be replaced w/dual 30s
Poker:
SNGs:
Not really the trip I was hoping for but I kind of played half-assedly when I was tired / back from doing stuff / etc., really was just focusing on getting through some of the regs and getting VPP. Have a full 3 weeks when I get back before I go to Vancouver to study up and work on some of the spots/regs that gave me trouble, fully expect to be on solid course once I get back and I was really happy with my play actually overall especially towards then end so I'm surprisingly satisfied overall with how it went and feel good about the month
VPP:
40,029
Profit:
-5,655.10
Rakeback:
~2,150
Profit + RB:
-3,505.10
EV took some pretty brutal swings, but like 100%+ of my lost EV is vs 2-3 regs and all of my games vs them were in $500s as opposed to the majority of my game vs fish/others in 300s, so not thrilled with it but I can totally live with it, like I said, pretty satisfied with the trip overall.
Cash:
Just LOL cash, didn't get in a lot of hands, it was way tougher than I thought to play multiple sites on 1 (small resolution) monitor, so I didn't focus on getting much cash in. Had a pretty awesome <300 hand 40k DS in there though where I just got COMPLETELY god moded shallow and then the few times we got deep I made some pretty meh decisions. Have like one of the worst river calls I've ever made in there in a 15k pot that has haunted me pretty badly since ;p.
-15k with -5k in EV obv isn't really a great trip but not bothered much by it, got owned in a few huge pots deep which cost me a ton in results/EV and really couldn't be any more confident with my cash game overall (as per my previous graph I posted), pretty std. swings and small hand sample, will be really glad to get back on 2 monitors and be able to grind for real again
So yea, overall not great poker results this vacation but really got me motivated to study up and get ready for the next 9.5 months of grinding, super pumped to go and really confident I'm going to have a great year.
Traveling:
Nepal:
Pretty crazy experience culturally, the first 3rd world place I've really spent a lot of time in and you see a ton ton ton of poverty that I wasn't used to at all. People we were there to see were obv upper class by Nepal standards though so time with them / the wedding / etc. was all pretty standard and awesome. Stayed mostly in Kathmanu but took a trip to Pokhara in between to hang out by the lake / enjoy some himalaya scenary
A few pics:
My friend about to be married off, lookin like a total boss
Myself and Wife decked out in traditional Nepali wedding garb
Thailand:
Bangkok:
Was very surprised with the city, we didn't stay a ton of time but it was WAY more modern than I expected, it's a really big city and I could totally see it being somewhere I could live if I moved to Asia just seemed to be not TOO foreign and really had everything you'd look for in a city, was really impressed.
Chiang Mai:
A bit of a "smaller city" feel, not really like a NYC-style city at all but more just kind of a cluster of stuff with a center, reminded me a lot of Austin (where i've been living) in terms of it's layout. Has a really big community of poker players (I got added to a CM poker skype group with like 80+ people) so that's pretty crazy to have such a high concentration in one place. It's REALLY cheap to live, you can get pretty nice apartments/houses for like 1k/month so it seems like a pretty good option for people looking to move abroad/live cheap.
some pictures: (Tigers, Elephants, Temples, and a cooking class is pretty much all we did here)
Rando elephants messing around
No joke... an Elephant... Painting...
andddddd somehow it's about 8 TRILLION times better at art than I could ever hope to be, they were selling them and someone like raced there and beat us to buy it, I was raged to say the least
Tigers chillin, they were so accessible and awesome, and I guess not drugged up cause we saw them fighting/playing/running around (they also directly told us they don't drug them or do anything to them at all, just handlers there always)
temple in CM with tons of gold
The Islands (Koh Samui / Koh Tao):
I dunno what to say, they were islands, just totally laid back and awesome with SICK water and sick sick views. We chose to stay in our nicest places here and it paid off pretty well, the views were amazing, the water was sick, service was amazing, the whole thing was just super relaxing and awesome. I'm on my computer a ton and find it hard to step away from being "connected" / technology quite a bit and had no problem just laying out and doing nothing here, really glad we went would love to go again sometime
Chillin on the beach:
View from hotel #1 (Koh Tao)
Hotel #2 (Banyan Tree, Koh Samui)
Pool leading into Villa, doors opened right from bedroom and living room to step out into the pool
infinity pool / hot tub
whole place was sick inside, incl. bathroom
Wife and I chilling at the edge of the infinity pool... enjoying our last day there
Some other cool/interesting stuff we did I didn't mention:
Paragliding in Pokhara, a lot of fun, would def. reccomend. Scariest part is like... running down the mountain to a semi-cliff and just waiting for the wind to catch your parasail and pull you up into the air, after that it's just free floating around for 20-30 min
muay-thai kickboxing in Bangkok: watched a series of fights, 9 on the card, it was nuts. All the competitors were SUPER young so that was weird but the crowd goes NUTS and people are betting like crazy on it and it's just pretty epic, it was def. a lot of fun and for like $60-70 you get front row seats like I was sitting directly behind one of the 3 scoring judges it was really baller ;p
rock climbing in Koh Tao: Had been a while since I had been rock climbing, really cool to go and they have all the equipment and stuff, getting out of a gym and doing some on some pretty tough climbs combined with sick views on and island, it was def. just a fun way to spend a day
deep sea fishing in Koh Samui: I love deep sea fishing, have been a ton, always great, this one was pretty poor but may have just been bad luck, every fish caught was SUPER small and just not much action at all not to mention like 3/4 of us on the boat got super sick
Well, that's the end of my ridiculously way too long post, hope the ******ed length of this makes up for my lack of posts in between
. Once I get to Vanc we'll try to do daily/weekly at least. Sry if it seemed like an epic Diary, let me know what kind of stuff you guys want to read. Time for 22 more hours of flight, will be home in 26ish
