Before I tell you what I've been working on over the last few days, let me start off by saying I have not been 3-betting at all since I drafted up my newest ranges. I know it's obviously a mistake, but I was trying to keep things simplified to the extreme for now lol. I was planning to add 3-betting ranges at some point when I had a better idea of how to construct them properly. After all, constructing them poorly could cost me money.

Well, I recently just thought of a way to do so. So that's exactly what I've been doing work on now. I'm starting to construct some 3betting ranges based on cold, hard math. Finding what hands I can 3bet with (and what size I should use for the 3bet), which will guarantee profit no matter how my opponent responds. And trying to find a range (for each position vs position) that will maximize that minimum guaranteed profit. Note that I'm not looking to find the optimal 3bet size, but rather to find a 3bet sizing that will guarantee profit. This may result in quite unusual (e.g. large) 3bet sizings. First step is to find profitable 3bet sizings/ranges. In the future, I can do more in-depth work to (possibly) find more profitable 3bet sizes & ranges.

So for example, I started looking at 3betting vs a (15%) EP opening range from the BB. I find all hands I can 3bet for "value", so that no matter how the EP player responds, I will be guaranteed to make money. Obviously, the worse my opponent plays, the more money I will make. But there is no circumstance where I won't make money (over the long run). I then look at what hands (and how many hands/combos) I can add as 3bet "bluff" hands, so that my minimum guaranteed profit is more than it would be with just the value hands.

This is the first step in creating mathematically-proven profitable ranges, based on my opponents' ranges. This is then more along the lines of exploitative play rather than the GTO-type stuff I was trying to do before. And this is the direction I'm looking at when trying to improve in the future. No more trying to play "optimally", with MDF and the like. Only looking at profitable decisions, taking rake into account. I will keep my current ranges, and add/adjust as I do more work, a little bit at a time. 3betting ranges are obviously up first.

Just a small update since I haven't posted in awhile. I'm still playing and trying to improve my game. However, I'm building a more "solid" approach to the game. None of that other stuff I've been experimenting with (like open-limping for example). I just wasn't able to find any success with that.

I built some solid preflop ranges last month, and have been working on my game postflop since then. I'm really starting to feel comfortable, and feel like I'm on my way up now. I'm currently playing nl10, and my bankroll is at about $400. That's it for now, since I'm about to leave for work. But just thought I'd stop by and update.

After a relatively bad stretch at NL10 (once again), I've decided to start back at NL2 with a more structured approach. I am starting fresh, and created a new PG&C thread to start the new year with. You can find it here:

        http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...rofit-1647196/

I'd like this thread to be buried so that I only have one PG&C thread active lol. Just thought I'd update here so that anyone who's interested can follow along there.
