So I want to pick your brain with some questions if thats ok?
I just started playing poker again (can only play online) as a hobby but of course I want to make some profit too.
Right now I have a bankroll around 380$ on ACR. (Only site I will be playing on for the time being.)
My thought process was playing NLH MTTs until I hit 1000 or 2000$ and then start playing PLO cash games starting at the micros with PLO5 or PLO10.
Now what Im asking myself is as follows:
Does this plan make sense or is it better to grind MTTs until I hit 5k to start with PLO50 because of the rake or does it even make more sense starting playing PLO now in the micros, so PLO2, to learn the game?
I mean on the one hand micro stakes should be beatable and is probably good to learn the game but on the other hand I'm afraid of the rake being way to high to make it beatable.
I don't have alot of experiance so I'm very interested in your opinion on that matter.
Thank you very much and have a nice day my friend!
Hey man
So a lot to unpack on your question. First of all I’ll say I have zero experience with online NLH tourneys, haven’t played one in years.
As far as the rake question, I don’t know what it is on ACR but I know that the higher rake environments on like PokerBros have made the bigger clubs borderline unbeatable at low stakes because most of the splashy players have left. My win rate is on pokerbros is down about 90% over a decent sample size recently, playing in the same games I was doing very well in for 2 years or so when clubs were newer. Playing with all rocks in high rake environment is a tough spot. I essentially use pokerbros as a way to get repetitions nowadays.
I feel like you want to be fluid and adaptive with what you decide to do. Like if you start with the MTTs and you don’t feel like there’s an edge, I would quickly pivot to PLO. I would also check some other threads in 2+2 because I am sure there is some great info out there that may help guide your decision on which is softer.
Anyways, always fun to get back in the poker streets after some time off and hope you crush it !
