Internet connection just cut off 55 minutes into my second 3-hour session for the day (after lunch/early afternoon). I was in the middle of a few big pots and I timed out on all of them - probably cost me about $100. Got a little bit irritated by that so I'm going to immediately quit right now. Was pretty proud of myself for instantly closing the tables as I recognised the old tilt returning. The old William would've kept playing and punting.

Going to go for a walk, read The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood) and head into the city to buy a new Internet connection now.

GL on your journey man. That hand earlier where the guy had the higher flush was brutal. Pretty impressive you were even considering a fold there.

This is your affirmation check?

Quote:
By dedicating myself to mental game and volume, I completely lose sight of the short-term and become invincible to distortion; thereby becoming one of the deadliest diamonds in the pool.
It's a good one, except maybe for the last sub-clause, which is unnecessary. However, if you are going to do this...

Repeated the affirmation at least 10 times before I started playing,
You need to stop writing about variation and short-term results as well. Otherwise, you are just self-defeating your own affirmation.

Challenge yourself to not write another word about variation, downswings or heaters in this entire blog.

Back home and ready to rumble. Ended up getting a 4G connection set up for $270. Damned expensive and it's not the fastest, but apparently it's reliable.

Thanks man. Easy for me to think about making a fold, not so easy to actually make the fold in practice haha

Hey, thanks for dropping by - I really appreciate the feedback! I did feel like the last clause was unnecessary and didn't benefit me much but now I've got someone else telling me this I'll be dropping it from now on. And re the variation/short-term results, you're absolutely right. To be honest, I was still using this blog to vent about running bad and garner sympathy. This needs to change. I should be completely indifferent to the short-term.

I'm going to take you up on that challenge.

Don't worry, if you did make the hero fold and you happened to run into the 20% of his range that isn't nut flushes, you'd have everyone on 2p2 telling you how ridiculous your fold is and how you're probably a losing 5nl player because of your fancy play syndrome.

For the next 2-3 weeks (minimum), I'll be returning to some of the slow (as opposed to Zoom) 200NL games in softer environments to rebuild my bankroll. Volume and all other goals will remain intact, business as usual (50 hours average of volume a week) though.

Mindset work
I've been setting a few goals before each session I play, which has helped me focus throughout and remain mentally strong. Mainly things like
*Abide by the 2BI stoploss
*Abide by the 3 hour time limit
*Focus on this exploiting x population tendency or y part of my game

It shifts the point of the session away from money and makes me judge each session based on how I was mentally. There's no denying that I still get a kick from winning (which I am trying to eradicate) though.

Meditated for 10 minutes as always. Need to put more effort into actually staying focused on the breathing. I think my mind starts to wander now and again because it feels too easy. But in reality, I'm not really giving it my all as if I was really focused on my breathing, then my mind wouldn't wander. Kind of analogous to poker - even though it might seem easy at times, you're not maximising your winrate and squeezing out every single bb/100 unless you're fully focused.

Volume
Played a 3 hour session in the morning, 1 hour in the afternoon (after which my Internet cut off so I got tilted and insta-quit) and 4.5 hours in the evening. Admittedly for the last session (4.5 hours) I went over my 3 hour session cap but I was getting some juicy HU action which is super rare. In total, played 8.5 hours today.

Hand of the day (still waiting on results, which I'll reveal in the next post)

That's a really weirdly played hand... I don't think he has a straight or flush too often here when he doesn't Cbet the flop. I mainly expect to see a set of Ks, set of 8s and some busted diamond draws. Maybe a hand like A6dd that decided to turn itself into a bluff?

Sorry for the slight break guys! My housemate decided he wanted to move out to a larger house this week, completely out of the blue, so I've been super busy with hosting inspections etc. Will post an update soon.

But I'm currently faced with a pretty tough decision - need opinions haha. I can either live with two Spanish girls or two Swedish girls. All in their mid 20's. Need to decide in 24 hours, so time bank is running out!

Swedish girls have better temperaments; the Spanish can be feisty. Go light.

My gut is telling me Swedish as well. The Swedish girls seem like the travelling/spiritual type and the Spanish girls seem a little more quiet and reserved. Tossing up between having a quiet work/grindhouse environment or the novelty of living with two Swedish girls. Logical me says Spanish. Visceral me says Swedish. ****, I'm deep in the tank atm.
