Re: Pads1161 #bracelethunting

Main event isn't a re-entry or just don't fancy another spin?

Do you think that your time spent in vegas would have been more profitable playing online? Are the games a lot better when WSOP is on and a lot of the online regs are in Vegas?

Enjoyed the summer write ups

If it was re-entry I would fire maximum bullets for sure, but unfortunately its not.

I'm not sure, if you can be the big crusher in say 10/20nl every day and have a good ROI in the 5/10ks then it will be close. Online MTTs may be softer during summer, but they are also a lot smaller.

This is a really common misconception, the chances of busting on day 1 is unlikely for a good player but certainly not impossible. Coolers happen, crazy people overplaying hands and getting there happens and just losing every pot you play for hours happens too.

I also busted on day 1, Talal Shakerchi 4b jammed the flop with QJdd when I had top set on a K94dd for a 95k pot. We can't control these things happening, we just have to make the best decisions we can, accept the results and move on.

I wish I would have had the chance to meet you while you were here, the approach and work ethic you take towards poker is really inspiring.

Really enjoy reading your posts and fwiw it sounds like overall it was a pretty sweet experience that not many people get to enjoy. Too bad about the main but those were some pretty nasty coolers.

Re: Pads1161 #bracelethunting

Been a weird few days. I assumed when I busted the main event I would be walking around all depressed and angry. I genuinely went into the tournament with so much confidence. I busted within 2 hours and from the outset everybody would assume that I would be raging. I wasn't at all, my friend was railing and I came over to him almost laughing about it all and not bothered at all. I wasn't sure if I was just trying to be too brave and a few days later it would kick in. Since then theres been 2 more day 1s and 2 day 2's. Stacks are getting big now but I have no jealousy or envy at all, I really don't care.

Kinda weird and I have no idea why it doesn't bother me. Usually when I bust a tournament I think of very little things that could have changed and kept me in. If I'd have pitched my cards slightly more to the left and the next shuffle would have been different etc, all obviously silly, silly things but I really haven't thought about it at all.

My best friend from home is here, we've been really just doing lots of touristy stuff. Something happened with my phone that I don't want to go into, but I couldn't use it for 3 days which was annoying. We did lots of cool stuff though, 3 really big nights out, we went to Michael Jackson show at Mandalay Bay which was really amazing and today we did a huge trip to Grand Canyon. We took a 16 hour trip on a coach there and whilst at times it was pretty tilting it was a really good day out with no poker on the mind etc.

Went to down town the night before, we went to this place called Heart Attack Grill. Pretty comedy place, if you don't finish your dinner you get spanked off the nurse waitresses and they don't hold back they go really really hard. Everybody has to wear a hospital gown and shots are brought in test tubes etc. Was kinda fun, but the food is bad so don't prepare a whole night around it.

The grind tomorrow is going to be really big, fly to London->Budapest with a big wait in-between, will get back on Saturday and chill out a lot before big Sunday grind. God have I missed it!

I'm really motivated for 4 things moving forward, I'm kinda concerned because all 4 are really big things

1) Crush stable. I think this is my main goal. We have over 25 horses now which is really a lot. Lets take a Sunday for example its not inconceivable we have over $100k outlay. But on the other side of the coin, if we have a 30% roi between everybody then we could make $30k every Sunday. I've seen so, so many stables do things wrong and I know theres some stuff we do wrong. I want to dedicate everything to make it a very successful company. All Elmerix, European and omyg0t are amazing players and amazing coaches. But again want to give an extra shootout to Elmerixx. He has over 1.5m winnings now and doesn't have a single six figure score. Never moans, just plays hard, works hard, studies hard. My goals for the stable are to have 50 guys by the end of 2016 and make $2m. Obviously huge goals, but something to work towards and achievable.

From 12 July - August 12
- 10 private coaching
- 4 group coachings
- 2 extra study sessions
- Have our full website ready for launch
- Honestly be 100% on top of everything

If I fail any of the above I'll give $1,000 to animal shelter in Budapest

2) Crush life. In the first 3 weeks in vegas I went to the gym every day, ate really well and was so disciplined. I'm at the complete opposite side of the scale now, I've been eating so much ****, way too much red meats, not enough veg etc. I want to put everything forward to really be as healthy as possible. When I feel healthy I feel so much better.

From 12 July - August 12
- Less than 4 cheat meals
- No sugar
- 3 bottles water/day
- Fruit/Veg 5x minimum/week
- Gym 4x/week

If I fail any of the above I'll give $1,000 to REG

3) Crush online poker. I don't want to play a lot of sessions over the next month. Taking time to make sure I don't overdo everything is critical, but I do need to play sessions too. I will play every Sunday obviously and then will play at least 1-2x/week on top. I didn't even think about writing goals about "winning tournaments" or "winning $10k" I realise fully now that I can't control that. My goals here are very simple

- Play as close to A game at all times

4) Be prepared to crush live poker I'm really looking forward to Barcelona, I've seen a big improvement in my live game over the summer and picking up on a lot of little small things. If by August 12th I've crushed goals 1-3 then I will play the entire schedule. The $50k, $25k, $10k, Main Event and all the high stakes turbos/hypers (obviously selling action for these) I need to deserve it though, 1 month of working hard, living well, treating myself with respect and treating my job respect should be the bare minimum, as long as I feel like I've succeeded then I will go for Barcelona super hard.

After Barcelona theres a small turn over for WCOOP, really looking forward to that and need to decide whether I grind it in Budapest or go to Canada/Mexico.

Pretty fun now, just about to open pocket fives and see who is in the top 10

1- PokerKaiser
2- hellohellohello
3- Bedias
4- Antesvante
5- Legenden
6- Prebzzz
7- Auguskb
8- Sheater
9- Lasagnaammm
10- Mindgamer

57- Pleno1

Little bit motivating I guess, but won't put a goal for there just yet.

Sorry for all the rambling, really excited about the next chapter in my career. Will continue to share it with you guys here.

Starting personally, I had that big breakdown in the middle of the series that made me realise I struggle to mentally cope with busting in big tournaments, moving forward I will really try to focus on this and since realising this everything has been pretty ok. I busted in 22nd in a $1500 in day 4 KK<QQ and took it really well. In the $10k PLO I finished 13th when 1st was $1m and took it really well too. I think moving forward, I've identified a problem and now its no longer a problem.

I came into the WSOP with huge expectations, I was going to be POY, I was going to cash more times than anybody else and I was going to be the best player in all the tournaments. The first two things I quickly found out I couldn't manage. It is impossible to manage variance in tournament poker and it gave me a bit of a reality shock and realised that coming into the WSOP in the future or any live trip, having any expectation asides from striving to play my A game at all times is really dumb. Thats something that is so obvious, but took me a few weeks to really realise.

Vegas in general..

I've realised there's 2 different types of people who come to vegas and win money.

1- The players who come, rofl around and bink a tournament/go deep in a tournament

2- The players who focus on one thing and really specialise towards it and crush.

There's so many guys who are just playing 25/50 in bellagio, of 10/25 in the rio, or $50/point chinese, or all the mixed game tournaments or even SNG's. This year I played HSNL, HSPLO, MSNL, MSPLO, SNG's, Chinese.. I should really just have an action plan of exactly what I'm going to do. If its going to be a trip based around tournaments I think preparing and stopping burn out is important. If its a trip based around cash games, I should decide where and what stakes I'm going to focus on and really strive to be the big crusher in that game throughout the summer. There's so many people rofling around doing what I was doing (jumping into fun games when busting a tournament) that theres so much money to be made. I am 100% sure there is a lot of money to be made in Vegas you just have to have a good plan and stick to it, I'm also 100% sure its very easy to deviate from said plan and lose a lot of money doing it.

I'm fortunate I've learned all of this whilst having a marginally profitable summer, I'm sure it has taken some guys 2-3 summers of completely bricking before they potentially stop blaming variance and realise they are not approaching it correctly.

I went to bellagio tonight and there was a 1k/2k PLO game with straddles and one young reg was on his phone playing 10+ games of chinese and barely watching any of the action, by the time summer finishes theres hundreds and hundreds of players stuck a bunch.

I think most people think I'm pretty nerdy, pretty geeky. I know people will think I'm way too poker orientated and for some reason I let this delude me and make me think this was actually true. One night I was in the Rio, Corona in one hand, Vodka Cranberry in the other hand, coming off a chinese game and about to head out to a club. It was my 5th/6th night out in vegas and they had all been really heavy. I went past the SNG area and saw Wushu and Martin Finger grinding away. It made me feel so amateur. They were still going really strong, grinding away when the schedules were weak on certain days and its no surprise that these guys are the ones I should be trying to emulate. I'm obviously a very hard worker but I have been very degen this summer, I've probably wagered over $200,000 betting (don't worry Mum thats not as bad as it sounds , I'm actually up in the trip from gambling!) I've been drunk probably 6/7 times and from being the guy who was in the gym every day for the first 3 weeks of the trip I slowly deteriorated and got a lot lazy.

I know I have played exceptionally well this trip when at the tables itself, but things around it or even taking days off when I perhaps shouldn't may have been a big leak.

I know I sound hard on myself, but I'm not sure how many summers I have left coming to the WSOP or how poker will be in the next years. I want to be the best tournament player in the world, I want to be the best player in every field I register too, but I don't just mean technically, I want to be the most studious, and I want to be the most professional too.

I'm not sure what my plans will be for next year, but I know I'll get it right and who knows maybe I run good and get a bracelet!
Resonate strongly with the idea of finding kind of one discipline or one stake within a discipline and just grinding it out.

I primarily came to Vegas this year to party with Moseley and co and figured I'd play a little in between. That led me to basically jumping in 25/50 and 50/100 games in the Bellagio on a whim and it really had the feeling of punting, rather than grinding.

When my buddies left I decided to stay on for a week in the Aria and just grind some bread and butter PLO to recover some of my spending money back if nothing else. Over the course of a week I was crushing the 5/10/20 PLO there and felt like I was probably top 3 reg playing that game. I realised some of my friends who are solid regs had been grinding that game for a few weeks clearing $50k+ etc. So like you acknowledged, the opportunity to clear decent sums during the Vegas grind isn't impossible.

Bad luck in the series, shame about the main. Enjoy reading the blog during this time because similar I struggled really hard in 2013 when I hit Vegas to play 6 weeks of big cash. It's so much tougher to hold it all together than people think.

Edit: did you play the World Cup football thing, that Craig organised? I slept in too late to play! May have been my biggest regret of the trip.

Re: Pads1161 #bracelethunting

First day back on the felt was fun. I started at 1pm and finished at 5am. Worked hard.

I'm pretty honest when I say I played great but I didn't play great today. Made too many sloppy mistakes and probably played C game overall. Had a little unfortunate luck deep. Pure bubbled a Barcelona EPT package despite having a 5-1 chip lead HU.

Came 4th in the 200r and had a few ok runs.

Nice little reality shock that I can't just come home and put my feet up 20 tabling and crush. Got to work hard. I was easily distracted. Skype, Facebook Etv. Really need to work on that moving forward.

Won't play online tomorrow (Monday) but will play Tuesday and then not again till Sunday.

Was so nice to walk around Budapest today for the first time in months. Such a great city.

Re: Pads1161 #bracelethunting

Pleno,

First off man, its not odd to want to leave Vegas mid trip. I can't make it through 3 days of Vegas before I need to go home in fear of death! I go way too hard when I am there lol.

Second, I have been a complete punter since 2012. My game never improved and thankfully I had never required online poker to be anything more than a hobby because if I did I would be on the street. I always followed your blog at PS but never really studied your stats as I was not a CG player. I just enjoyed the read and you come across very human and very sincere and it makes your blogs very readable.

I recently found this blog. Before I started reading your strategy I honestly found myself in spot after spot in mtt's where I punted stacks away because I just had no understanding of a proper gameplan. I did not know that I continually set myself up for failure by playing standard ABC poker that PS taught. I just felt confused and annoyed after each session.

Then I started reading, and my mind was opened to the "art" of this game. Checking back flops with initiative and top pair? As recent as 3 weeks ago I would have thought "rofl terrible play". Polarize range and overbet pot on the river? Again, unheard of. I realize I was foolish and really missed the whole point of poker being an art and not a massive math grind. Multiple times I just felt like the unluckiest guy in the world when I won 9 60/40s to get to the final table only to lose the 10th. I realize now I set myself up for failure by flipping coins instead of having a gameplan and building stacks as a form of protection against losing tournaments due to these inevitable get it in moments.

Most importantly, I only understand this now because I read what you have posted with your numerous hh's that you did not have to post, or explain your thinking. So thank you very much for the great read and the influence you have had on my game. I know this wasn't your intent to better players, and it was more of a journal, but as a family man playing small stakes it does you no harm. I will never play in your games and you have at least made my hobby much more fun when I have run down a few final tables in the last few weeks using strategies I would have never dreamed of playing before.

On a final note, your emotional ups and downs. I'm not a doctor, nor will I pretend to be. But I work in a top 100 company in the world. The corporate world has just as many ups and downs and you proclaiming that you are sure this was the case is correct. When you don't get the promotion you deserve, when the company has a bad quarter and you don't get the bonus you expect, when office politics brand you "x" or "y". It doesn't matter, every occupation other than monday through friday, 9-5 plugger jobs have stress, highs and lows, pain and suffering. Its how we take those moments, learn, move on, and excel.

Honestly, I hate my job, but I support my family and I go to work everyday to grind out the best performance possible in hopes of that deserved raise/promotion. Consider yourself blessed you get to wake up everyday and do something you love. Its one of the rarest things in this world!

Re: Pads1161 #bracelethunting

refrained from posting for last week because seriously ran completely horrible. posting bad beat stories every day is painful to read so definitely not going to do that. Have saved over 50 interesting hands, so will slowly start posting them on the blog daily. Have been playing a lot of cash games recently, really enjoying them.

sunday teased me. qq<jj twice for 2 EPT seats
9th in .fr major after 1/14
4th in 200r after huge 1/20 all way to 1/6

this ridiculous hand in s530 lol

http://www.boomplayer.com/poker-hand...647_59FF73EFD2

Guess can't do anything but continue to play as best as I possibly can. Year has been a bit of a myth so far.

Slowly getting flashbacks of the guy hitting the Queen on the river in day 4 of wsop now

In a very, very good place mentally thankfully IRL, really, really, really happy about the way life is, the way I'm approaching poker and the future I have, the immediate and relatively recent future always hurts a little I guess though.

Will take tomorrow off and go to dinner/movies and will be back on it on Tuesday.
