How much of that score do you roll into your bankroll and how much goes into 'other'? That always interest me!
Hey, thanks. Erm, kind of awkward question, not cheeky just tough to answer. I don't really have a separate bankroll or poker roll, its all the same thing. I have living costs for 10+ years moving forward and I like to pay my rent 1 year in advance so I don't kind of move money "to pay the bills"
Winning big amounts just lets me take bigger pieces of myself in bigger tournaments. For example in WCOOP last year I sold for a lot of events. For EPT's I always sold 60% ish and I'm always very good from a bankroll management point of view of not being too crazy. For example tomorrow in the $10k, I sold 40% and swapped an additional 30% after I won this 100k. I'm sure many people would yolo or whatever, but I like to be smart.
I don't really have any goals or anything with money, my only goal right now is to collect as much as possible in the next 5 years or so and then evaluate.
In general the way poker players manage their money is really interesting. I have horses who will take loans every month then in their first month of profit they will play games off stake/gamble it off/drink it off and thats totally fine, its their money and they can do whatever they like, but to me its always been a little odd.
I tell all my friends this, almost EVERYBODY in poker has way, way less money than you think, then theres the guys who have THE LOT! All these guys who are apparent high rollers often play for very small %s of themselves, anybody who has won x amount online has usually won 1/2 of what their graph says (Staked) and poker players in general spend way too much.. And then you have live tournaments.. Expenses and buy ins in live tournaments are huge. In these stops there are $2k turbos running every night and people just yolo'n them, I think they get unto 300+ runners and the same guys every day etc
I think in the past I was too conservative with my bankroll. I remember selling to a $200 live tournament with a $75k roll. Even selling for $200 SCOOPs etc, if you have the money and then some and you're able to rebuild and have real life stuff worked out then selling for tournaments where you have a huge roi in is literally just giving money away.
This post was not meant to be arrogant or anything at all just speak a lot about how everybody (including myself) has way less money than the community would expect.
