Online Tournament vs Online Cash Online Tournament vs Online Cash

Anyone have opinions about why my online tournament results are so consistently profitable at all stakes, while my online cash results are so terrible at all stakes?

My live cash win rate is outlandish over the last 10+ years, but my online cash win rate is the exact opposite.

I know this is a silly-broad question, but what would you think are the top 3 things i should analyze in my game?

Wrong forum, but I'll answer

First off, live cash is a different animal entirely! I'd compare the level of $1/2 players and thought processes that go on there to something around the 10NL online level (or worse).

Secondly, MTT is a different game entirely. Just because you can win at MTT or Sng or whatever doesn't mean you can automatically win at another game. That would be comparable to me saying that since I can win at NLHE I can also win at PLO (not so extreme, but you get the point).

To analyze your game, pick what you want to play or to focus your time on. If you keep spreading time between all the different forms of online poker, you will never grow to be an expert at that game. Also, find another player or players that you respect their game and talk hands with them. Those are the top couple of things that you can do right away to get you moving in the right direction.

Hey Man,

Yeah, Koded pretty much hit the jackpot, but if I could add one thing its never be content. Constantly look at the hands you play and see why it worked, or why it didn't. This is far easier online because of tracking software, and coupled with the increased hands per hour is why the online game evolved so quickly compared to the live.

Also, as he said, they are completely different games. Not enough people realise that, and although you just talked about NLHE, you are talking about 3 facets of the game that need completely different strategies to be profitable at. No offence to live pro grinders, but I think I could train a monkey to be profitable at live cash games over here in the UK up to at minimum £1/£2 if not higher. I recommend anyone who soley plays online to hit those up just for the social aspect and the great winrate you can achieve. But online cash is a bit more of a grind, and although people say the variance in mtt's are sick (and it is) I get more tilted at a cash table online, where I see the actual money slipping away from me in a pot, not just chips. By the time I get deep in an MTT where it could annoy me to the same extent, I have monied decently, so it takes the sting off of it. Maybe your the same? Maybe you have better skill sets for the online MTT;s than the online cash? Maybe your like me and tilt slightly more in the situations of cash?

Anyway, got a bit off track, but the point is you have certain skill sets, if you want to win at a different game, strengthen the skill sets that improve your winrates in that game. One thing I will disagree with Koded on however (well only a little) is the concentration on one aspect. I defiantely think you should spend most of your time on one game, but dont forget that even in MTT's, sometimes, especially at the start, you are very deep, and can get in cash-esque situations. These situations can be dead money for alot of MTT/MTT-SNG pros, who haven't played these in great detail and properly analyzed them. Theres no harm once in a while improving a different skill set, aslong as in the long run you have a plan in mind as to why you are improving this aspect of your game.

Sorry for the long(ish) reply, just my thoughts.
