Mid April Update

So far things are looking great! I’ve been crushing live, have felt much more comfortable running big bluffs and making hero folds.

Online with the stable has been going better, my understanding of PLO is constantly changing so my execution is going to be somewhat inconsistent.

Have finals soon so focusing on study. Been partying a lot with school friends which is always a good time.

Gym going well still, diet could be improved though.

Current plan is to travel to Vegas in June and play some PLO tournaments. Maybe hit a big score and pop off

Second Mid April Update

Last couple days I've really popped off playing 7-10 tables. Was talking to performance coach and we identified a mental leak of mine which is "checking results", basically I'm always thinking about if I'm up or down during a session. When I play many tables, I'm unable to tell how my session is going which allows me to play my A game more consistently.

In addition to this, I've been running so fkn hot

Right around the 3k hands mark I increased tables.

April Completion

April graph!

Didn't play much after my mid month update, unfortunately got a girlfriend and lost my focus.
Gym and food have also been slacking this month. But I am ready to approach May with intensity!

May Goals

-100 hours poker with stable
-keep grinding a little bit of live
-start strong in the new school semester
-balance time with gf
-set aside money for WSOP and book flights
-gym every other day
-eating healthier

Mid May update

So far may is looking extremely good!

Crushing online, cash under stake and tournaments off of stake.

Running really hot in a soft live home game.

School is going well, and girlfriend is doing well!

Big area to improve is gym I think I’ve only been once this month. Need to make it a priority to go in the morning I think.

Will post graphs and total month count when I get home (at school as I write this) but probably up between 10-15k this month profit.

Decided to skip WSOP this year and just continue stacking my roll. At 45% ROI (upper limit for soft low stakes wsop events after talking to a couple ppl) I’d have to fire 3k USD in entries to make it worth, and I don’t think it’s a wise decision given my current roll + situation or whatever.

Plan to shot take some larger PLO games in the near future, maybe spin it up

Looking forward to ending May strong!

Thanks!

Got home and crunched the numbers for May. Numbers are in CAD.

Live Cash (1/3 NLH/PLO home game) - +6170

Online Tournament (off stake) - +2256

Online Cash (staked) - +2629 (after split roughly +1314.5)

Grand total profit = $9740

A little less than I thought, but still a killer month so far! Somewhat pessimistic because I obviously can't continue to run like this. But I'm just going to keep playing my game and trying to pick good spots and maximize EV!

Also had a nice cash out last night (on 1.5h of sleep game ended at 5am was lots of drinking involved )

In for 200 out for 3210

When you cash out, do you give them a tip at the cashier?

Normally just tip the spare $1s. So I tipped $3? It’s a home game though there aren’t cashiers or anything. The hosts handle the books.

Small update / vent on shot taking

Lost about 4k after posting breakdown. Took some shots at $400 tournaments on GG. Never made it past late registration, just kept getting demolished. AA in pre lose 3 or 4 times, call ds jacks in SB vs BTN flop A65 with flush draw, he cbet I peel, turn 6 xx river J I block he raise I jam he has aces. Or a QT55Q board I block river after turn went xx he raises I jam AQxx he tank calls QT.

Not really that disappointed, however I have taken shots like this before and I always get demolished. Checked my plays and I'm happy with how I played and think I had a reasonably large edge in the event. Just lost ~10 bullets to running badly. Just unfortunate I ran badly in higher stakes instead of at $55s or $109s!

Will just continue to grind $85abi and 1/3 live and online stake. And hopefully the next shot take goes better!

Small update on shot taking

Decided I had a big enough edge to justify playing some small field higher stake tournaments, but staying away from the large field.

Fired 3x $210 Bounty

2x $525 Bounty

1x $1500 satellite ($150 entry)

So roughly 3180 in entry

Cashed for ~ $4700, so good profit on the day. The swings feel absolutely massive, but I feel like it's a waste to play under $100 buy ins as long as I have the money. I see a lot of the weaker regs and recs making massive mistakes that are printing me money. Specifically in ICM and bounty ideas.

Thanks! I would look for a stable specifically if you think there's value to the coaching for you

Bit of an unfortunate update

Lost 3.3k live at home game

Got extremely tilted and frustrated, room was sweltering hot which I think contributed to why I got tilted so easily.

It was only NLH because halfway through the night the host said no more PLO.

Should have left but was stuck and started chasing. And got punished.

Not the worst but still pretty frustrating to not lose it to luck but just bad play.

Another (good) shot take update!

Played some casino uncapped 1/3 game, in for 300 out for 3k.

Game plays like 2/5 or 5/10 depending on lineup. This game had a VIP buying in 2k at a time splashing around with roughly 80% vpip 30% 3bet.

Grinded the must move table until I got moved to the main game, and just 4bet VIP wide and printed max.

Had an interesting hand vs a reg and a thinking rec.

2k in my stack, open UTG 9 handed with KsKcTs9c

Get 6 callers, importantly the BTN and BB. Flop 7 ways AcQc7d. I bet $5 into ~$105, get called in the field twice, BTN raises to $55, BB calls I raise to like 300. Was 1k eff with BTN and BB.

BTN folds BB rips on me, I stack off, turn a flush, river bricks, and I scoop. BB was reg. Never got to see what he had, I tabled my hand pretty quickly.

May Wrap-Up

I know it's not technically the end of the month yet, but I am taking a couple days break from non stable stuff to focus on school and grind out some more hours with stable.

Running hot this month in many ways. Happy enough with my stable play this month.

Ended up the month up about 8k.

However, I am very unhappy with my performance regarding discipline and mental game.

Basically I spent the month buying what I want, eating what I want, staying up late, not exercising, playing tilted and chasing losses. Also took some ******ed shot takes related to chasing losses that thankfully didn't blow up in my face.

Feels like I lost a little bit of discipline with the exercise and ended up embracing the degenerate lifestyle.

Today was the first day back on the right track!

I feel like I have studied a lot and have a natural affinity for the game, but if I can't have self-discipline I will end up busto 100%. So it's up to me, either I stop doing what I want when I want it, or I end up busto. Have my 22nd birthday in June, really want to make financial progress this year.

June Goals
-Diet.
-Exercise.
-School.
-10k profit.
-Don't play tournaments with BI of $525 or above.
-Don't play cash games with BI of $500 or above.
-Get to sleep earlier around midnight, wake up earlier around 8-9.

i use plo web trainer from plomastermind. any difference between that and vision from rio? also, can you recommend some vids (coaches) that you like on rio? i have plomastermind, but i am thinking to try elite rio next month, but there are so many coaches there.

I’ve only watched galfond videos on rio, much prefer jnandez teachings. I believe there are some differences in the sims web trainer and vision use. Specifically I saw vision trapping preflop with some of the strongest AA hands BTN vs BB (forget how deep) and saw web trainer trapping with the weakest aces. Not sure what’s correct or why there’s this difference.

So far been studying mainly to start the month. Diet and exercise have been going well.

PLO trainer has been frustrating in some spots, check this out.

Two backdoor flush draws generates 60Ev? This makes no sense to me.

This hand is being folded preflop by PLO trainer anyways at the SAME RAKE STRUCTURE.

I might switch to using vision? Idk. If somebody can explain why this is the way it is, I'd love to learn.

A little far from me, but I did see a room in Seattle that runs 5/5/10 $500-$3000 with rake cap of $5 which seems verrrrry nice. Maybe after I study a bit more and allow myself to play higher stakes

Mid June Update

Not great results so far sadly.

Very frustrated with how things are going. It's been difficult to get action at 1/2 on the pokerbros clubs I play on, and when I do get games they are not good. Losing 40bb/100 4 handed and smaller, and winning at 5bb/100 5 handed and 6 handed. Basically the only action I can get is heads up, 3 handed or 4 handed where I am getting crushed for some reason...

I want to move up to 2/4, and the stable head coach says I need to play 10k hands with double digit ev. Which is fine in theory, I know I could do that playing 5/6 handed, but when it's so hard to actually get volume and I'm not incentivized to play .5/1 anymore it's pretty frustrating.

Also got covid earlier in the month and was sick again at the very beginning, so my diet and exercise have not been good.

On the plus side, school is going well and I've done a lot of studying and am very confident in my game now. I'm just having a hard time figuring out the logistics of how to put in volume.

For the rest of the month, I'm going to spend more time multitasking when I'm on the computer (looking for PLO4 and PLO5 games running while I do school work) and try to play 10k hands with double digit EV in order to move up in stakes at the end of the month.
